Lots of talk around the Premier League of players moving, players staying, and Big Sam geting
the old band back together on this day that the 2011/2012 fixtures are released. We've got a bit of
all of this in today's news update.
One of Allardyce's transfer targets after securing the signatures of Kevin Nolan and Abdoulaye Faye
for his West Ham reunion tour was our own Ricardo Gardner who has been nothing but a loyal servant
to Bolton Wanderers FC.
Yes, out of the 30 photos from training in Orlando, I chose this one.
It's no secret that this hasn't been exactly the most exciting summer for the Bolton Wanderers,
and any news is at least vaguely interesting. I mean, I read an interview with the kitman earlier
today. I know exactly how many ankle socks they brought to America.
Bolton sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table. After such an impressive start to
this season and spirits riding high, 11th place just feels so... wrong. Such a difference from this
point last year where we would have killed for this position.
The last match against Wigan was a dreary, frankly pathetic affair on January 5th.

No players from Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal make my team of the season - and that tells its own
story. It has been the city of Manchester that has dominated the headlines in 2010/11. Notable
mentions must go to goalkeepers Ben Foster and Ali Al Habsi, who figured prominently in my team of
the week selections but failed to convince me they were more effective than Edwin Van der Sar.

With the transfer window just beginning to creak in the wind (of change?), we at Pies reckon
it's high time to begin speculating and hypothesising on the ins-and-out – quite literally – of
this summer's prospective transfer activity.
This week, Manchester City and Tottenham are bought before the beak.
Bolton Wanderers | News | Latest News | General | Wanderers Snap-Up Pratley I missed this news over
the holiday weekend, but Bolton bolster their central midfield options - in the wake of releasing
Joey O'Brien and Tamir Cohen - by signing Swansea's Darren Pratley. Also, they have sold Ali Al
Habsi to Wigan after his loan spell there last season.
Quick Reminder, Real Life Wigan avoided relegation last season, just barely, finishing in 16th
thanks to some late season heroics by Charles N'Zogbia (now an Aston Villa player) in a dramatic
come from behind victory against relegated West Ham. Aside from N'Zogbia and goalkeeper Ali
Al-Habsi, who had a breakout season and has proven to be a very reliable Premier League goalkeeper
with a nice
The proliferation of foreign players in the Premier League is an often covered subject on radio
phone-ins and blogs like this one. I thought rather than offering the same glib observations on
foreign players in the 'English game' I'd offer some facts on the number of non-English (and
non-British) players who currently ply their trade in the Premier League today (or to be more
specific last season).
Chelsea launched a great late fightback against Aston Villa and went 3-2 up with two minutes to
go, but then threw the game away when Villa scored a stoppage-time equaliser.
Striker Didier Drogba and captain John Terry had scored goals in the last six minutes for
Chelsea and Terry's goal looked to have wrapped tup all three points for the champions.
An added-time header from Ciaran Clark rescued a point for Aston Villa in a topsy-turvy 3-3 draw
with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Villa, who had lost five of their previous six Premier League matches, appeared to be on their
way to a much-needed victory when Emile Heskey rose above Jeffrey Bruma to power in Stewart
Downing's cross.
There's nothing to get the pulse slumping like Wigan away, and the first half was suitably
dire. Chris Baird, revelling in his 'long range specialist' role, had our first two shots,
the first a daisy cutter that Ali Al Habsi saved easily, the second flying into the crowd.
Wigan bounced back with a relatively exhilerating break down the right flank, Stam's crossed at
full-speed, Rodellega got on the end of it but hit the post with a good header.

Man of the moment!
Arsenal welcome Wigan Atheltic to the Emirates as the Gunners return to Premier League action in
a match that they should be winning.
Denilson and Marouane Chamakh have overcome the minor injuries they picked up against Leeds in
midweek., but are likely to find themselves on the bench.

RvP - The Flying Dutchman!
Robin Van Persie produced an outstanding display scoring his first hat-trick for Arsenal as
they comfortably beat Wigan 3-0 at the Emirates.
Keeper Ali Al Habsi gave Wigan hope with superb saves, the best of them denied Cesc Fabregas and
Van Persie.
Has added the goals to the number 10 again
By that I mean the scoreline. Had our players been more lethal, they could have easily shattered
the Premiership record for highest number of goals in a game. The statistics tells us that we had
24 shots on goal and 63% of the possession. Only 10 of those were on target, yet we only managed to
make Wigan pick out the ball from the next 3 times.
BLACKPOOL, England Manchester United moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League after
staging a stunning late fightback to win 3-2 at Blackpool on Wednesday. Sir Alex Ferguson's side
had gone 27 league matches without losing, a run stretching back to their 2-1 defeat against
Chelsea in April last season.
At the end of 45 minutes I knew the way I should feel. Arsenal have just battered their
opponents, created chance after chance, seen the keeper pull off a string of saves, yet go in just
one goal up.
The way I'm supposed to think is 'Oh shit. Now what's going to happen is they're going to get a
scabby goal from a corner or free kick, we'll dominate again but won't be able to score, we'll
bring on Bendtner and Arshavin who will clash heads causing each other a massive subdural hematoma,
then we'll miss a penalty, hit the post a few times and drop two points".
LONDON, England West Brom took an early lead through Peter Odemwingie, before strikes from Charles
N'Zogbia and Ben Watson gave Wigan a 2-1 lead at half time. But the Baggies rallied and a battling
second half performances was rewarded with a 79th minute equaliser through Fortune. A win for Wigan
would have take them [.
I should preface this with the fact that I love Jussi Jaaskelainen. Even in the games in which
Bolton was the moving manifestation of mediocrity under Megson, Jussi was solid. He's been with us
for 14 years, and is one appearance shy of 500. The man is a legend. But, as much as I wish it were
true, he's not ageless.

There's a long time until "next week's" matches with the Premier League deferring to the FA Cup
this weekend. There are a lot of games to be played between now and then and there are a lot of
players whose injury status is in flux - Nani, Robin van Persie and Rafael van der Vaart come
immediately to mind.
Charles N'Zogbia's well taken opener was cancelled out by a rare Ashley Young free kick during a
first half which threatened to boil over, Emile Heskey providing much of the heat, but the second
half failed to live up to expectations. Neither side can feel aggrieved with an equal share of the
spoils.
Sigh. It's not exactly a shocking development, but I am still disappointed. I've made no secret
of the fact that I always wanted to keep him, although I appear to be in the minority of Bolton
fans. After much heckling and haggling between the two clubs, including some rude accusations from
Whelan, a deal has finally been agreed, and Al Habsi has become a Pie-Eater for the price of
ÂŁ4m.
Goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi has made a permanent move to Wigan from Bolton for
ÂŁ4m. Al Habsi spent last season on loan at the DW Stadium and was voted the Latics Player of the
Year last term.

With the news that Ali Al Habsi has packed up and moved to the pie factory next door comes a bit
of encouragement to most Bolton Wanderers fans. It's being widely reported that long time Wanderers
servants Ricardo Gardner and Jussi Jaaskelainen have agreed extended deals at the Reebok. Neither
are exactly fresh in terms of age but are willing to prove that they still have what it takes.

Wigan have completed the signing of goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi from Bolton on a four-year
contract.

Thanks Moses, Jesus and Chewbacca the Premier League is back though, we can't lie, the opening

The form shown by Manchester's City and United this season emphasises the gulf in class between
those sides with money and those without, especially when that money comes from the Gulf.
Premier League. Saturday 24th September 2011. DW Stadium. 3pm Kick Off.
Wigan. A team that have been struggling and scrapping around the bottom of the table since their
impressive start to their Premier League life. Wigan. A team that Spurs destroyed 9-1 at White Hart
Lane in 2009.
It's just under five months since Wigan were last at Villa Park and they've proven to be
something of a bogey team for us in our limited history of playing them. This will only be the 7th
time this league fixture has been played, but we're yet to win one. The pattern so far is LDLDLD;
clearly we need to break that pattern one way or another today.
Wigan Athletic were finally beaten in the league at Villa Park in a comfortable win for the home
side thanks to a goal in either half. The first, a brilliant effort from Gabby Agbonlahor, who then
turned provider for the second; setting up an unmissable effort for Darren Bent in front of the
Holte End.
Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images (Bleacher Report) Sergio Aquero was all that Manchester City needed
to take away a 3-0 victory from their home match against Wigan Athletic. In only his fourth game in
the English Premier League, the Argentine striker scored his first English Premier League hat
trick.

Bolton Wanderers lifted themselves off the bottom with a deserved win away to
Wigan.
The shock on their faces was there for everyone to see. From Conor Sammon's look of pure
surprise after netting the equalizer against West Ham on the season's final day, to Roberto
Martinez's delirious celebrations after Charles N'Zogbia's stoppage time winner, and the subsequent
final whistle, Wigan somehow seemed to have cheated death during the dramatic climax of last year's
edition of the Barclays Premier League.
