Shorty got loose, prompting Yakubu of Blackburn and Ali Al Habsi of Wigan Athletic to corral the
thing into the goalie's net before forcefully removing it from the pitch during Monday's match.

A chicken on the run at Ewood Park last night definitely did not go unnoticed especially by
football's Twitteratti.
As the memory of the Anfield cat begins to fade, a new animal king of the Premier League
emerges: The Blackburn chicken.
Wearing a Blackburn flag as a cape, the proud chicken invaded the pitch early in the first half
of Blackburn's fight to avoid relegation against Wigan, halting the match until he was caught in
the goal net by Wigan keeper Ali Al Habsi and Blackburn's Yakubu.
Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has made it abundantly clear that he hates time wasting. He
hates it more than Pepe hates fingers. When he believed international teammate Tim Krul was guilty
of it during Arsenal's win over Newcastle last month, he treated Krul like someone who ate his
sandwich out of the office fridge and then claimed that he didn't see where Van Persie wrote his
name on the package.
Franco Di Santo and Jordi Gomez scored a goal apiece in the opening eight minutes as Wigan
Athletic claimed a crucial 2-1 win at Arsenal to increase the distance between them and the
relegation zone.
Thomas Vermaelen pulled one back for the Gunners midway through the first half with a superb
header to beat Ali Al-Habsi but the hosts were not able to find an equalizer past the persistent
Latics defense.
The Guardian called it a low-rent performance. I'm not one to argue with such a
statement. However, thanks to some inept officiating and a micro-flash of brilliance from Fernando
Torres, it's three points gained from a match we likely would have lost a month ago.
How tough is that result on Wigan?
Without sounding too arrogant (it is difficult I must admit after a string of good FFF calls this
season), our Peter Odemwingie selection a month ago was one of our best of all time, so we've
decided to return to Roy ... Continue reading →

Wigan Athletic Swansea City Premier League 3rd March 2012
A superb brace from on-loan Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson hammered another nail into
Wigan's relegation coffin on Saturday at the DW Stadium, as the home side stumbled to yet another
damaging defeat.
Jose Reina has bemoaned the form of his opposite numbers when coming up against Liverpool.
The Anfield goalkeeper is rated as one of the best in the business, but he is more concerned by the
form of fellow shot-stoppers who are preventing Kenny Dalglish's side from pushing up the Premier
League table.
Wigan hero Ali Al-Habsi suggests he knew where Liverpool's Charlie Adam would put vital

Wigan Athletic Liverpool - Premier League 21st December 2011
Ali Al-Habsi put in yet another man-of-the-match performance for Wigan as the Latics built on
their draw with Chelsea and win against West Brom by picking up a priceless point against Liverpool
at the DW Stadium.

Chelsea's recent winning streak was halted by a 1-1 draw at Wigan Athletic, Jordi Gómez
capitalising on a horrible mistake from Petr Čech to equalise two minutes from time.
The Blues were on course for a fourth consecutive Premier League win when Daniel Sturridge
collected a long, diagonal ball from Ashley Cole and drilled a shot across Ali Al-Habsi after 59
minutes.
A pivotal trip to White Hart Lane is on the holiday horizon. Slow your roll, though. First, we
need to navigate this potentially tricky venture to Greater Manchester on Saturday.

On paper, away to Wigan doesn't appear to be too much trouble.
Arsenal's Premier League resurgence continued as a comfortable 4-0 victory over Wigan at the DW
Stadium saw them move into fifth place in the table.
Mikel Arteta, Thomas Vermaelen, Gervinhoand, inevitably, Robin van Persie all found
themselves on the scoresheet as the Gunners registered a sixth victory in their past seven league
games to draw level with Newcastle United.

Wigan Athletic 0-4 Arsenal Premier League 3rd December 2011
Arsenal moved to within two points of a Champions League place after destroying Roberto
Martinez' struggling Latics at the DW Stadium.
The shock on their faces was there for everyone to see. From Conor Sammon's look of pure
surprise after netting the equalizer against West Ham on the season's final day, to Roberto
Martinez's delirious celebrations after Charles N'Zogbia's stoppage time winner, and the subsequent
final whistle, Wigan somehow seemed to have cheated death during the dramatic climax of last year's
edition of the Barclays Premier League.

Bolton Wanderers lifted themselves off the bottom with a deserved win away to
Wigan.
Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images (Bleacher Report) Sergio Aquero was all that Manchester City needed
to take away a 3-0 victory from their home match against Wigan Athletic. In only his fourth game in
the English Premier League, the Argentine striker scored his first English Premier League hat
trick.
Wigan Athletic were finally beaten in the league at Villa Park in a comfortable win for the home
side thanks to a goal in either half. The first, a brilliant effort from Gabby Agbonlahor, who then
turned provider for the second; setting up an unmissable effort for Darren Bent in front of the
Holte End.
It's just under five months since Wigan were last at Villa Park and they've proven to be
something of a bogey team for us in our limited history of playing them. This will only be the 7th
time this league fixture has been played, but we're yet to win one. The pattern so far is LDLDLD;
clearly we need to break that pattern one way or another today.

Wigan. A team that have been struggling and scrapping around the bottom of the table since their
impressive start to their Premier League life. Wigan. A team that Spurs destroyed 9-1 at White Hart

The proliferation of foreign players in the Premier League is an often covered subject on radio
phone-ins and blogs like this one. I thought rather than offering the same glib observations on
foreign players in the 'English game' I'd offer some facts on the number of non-English (and
non-British) players who currently ply their trade in the Premier League today (or to be more
specific last season).

Yes, out of the 30 photos from training in Orlando, I chose this one.
It's no secret that this hasn't been exactly the most exciting summer for the Bolton Wanderers,
and any news is at least vaguely interesting. I mean, I read an interview with the kitman earlier
today. I know exactly how many ankle socks they brought to America.
Bolton Wanderers | News | Latest News | General | Wanderers Snap-Up Pratley I missed this news over
the holiday weekend, but Bolton bolster their central midfield options - in the wake of releasing
Joey O'Brien and Tamir Cohen - by signing Swansea's Darren Pratley. Also, they have sold Ali Al
Habsi to Wigan after his loan spell there last season.
Wigan have completed the signing of goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi from Bolton on a four-year
contract.
With the news that Ali Al Habsi has packed up and moved to the pie factory next door comes a bit
of encouragement to most Bolton Wanderers fans. It's being widely reported that long time Wanderers
servants Ricardo Gardner and Jussi Jaaskelainen have agreed extended deals at the Reebok. Neither
are exactly fresh in terms of age but are willing to prove that they still have what it takes.

Sigh. It's not exactly a shocking development, but I am still disappointed. I've made no secret
of the fact that I always wanted to keep him, although I appear to be in the minority of Bolton
fans. After much heckling and haggling between the two clubs, including some rude accusations from
Whelan, a deal has finally been agreed, and Al Habsi has become a Pie-Eater for the price of
£4m.
Lots of talk around the Premier League of players moving, players staying, and Big Sam geting
the old band back together on this day that the 2011/2012 fixtures are released. We've got a bit of
all of this in today's news update.
One of Allardyce's transfer targets after securing the signatures of Kevin Nolan and Abdoulaye Faye

With the transfer window just beginning to creak in the wind (of change?), we at Pies reckon
it's high time to begin speculating and hypothesising on the ins-and-out – quite literally – of
this summer's prospective transfer activity.
This week, Manchester City and Tottenham are bought before the beak.
No players from Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal make my team of the season - and that tells its own
story. It has been the city of Manchester that has dominated the headlines in 2010/11. Notable
mentions must go to goalkeepers Ben Foster and Ali Al Habsi, who figured prominently in my team of
the week selections but failed to convince me they were more effective than Edwin Van der Sar.
Charles N'Zogbia's well taken opener was cancelled out by a rare Ashley Young free kick during a
first half which threatened to boil over, Emile Heskey providing much of the heat, but the second
half failed to live up to expectations. Neither side can feel aggrieved with an equal share of the
spoils.
