This morning was weight training for the U.S. WNT, which the team powered through as usual, but
the most amusing part occured when the first group was finishing up and the second group was
arriving at the gym and the team decided to have an impromptu "emergency goalkeeper tryout" which
basically meant U.
Lots of talk around the Premier League of players moving, players staying, and Big Sam geting
the old band back together on this day that the 2011/2012 fixtures are released. We've got a bit of
all of this in today's news update.
One of Allardyce's transfer targets after securing the signatures of Kevin Nolan and Abdoulaye Faye
for his West Ham reunion tour was our own Ricardo Gardner who has been nothing but a loyal servant
to Bolton Wanderers FC.
Defender Ali Krieger arrived in Portugal late last night after playing for her club team FFC
Frankfurt in Germany on Sunday afternoon. She participated in her first training with the U.S. team
since CONCACAF qualifying last fall as club commitments have kept her in Germany. The U.S. team is
just waiting for team captain Christie Rampone, who will arrive on Wednesday morning, and the
24-player camp will be complete.
Four players from the U.S. Women's World Cup Team were present yesterday when Secretary of State
Hillary Clinton helped launched the Women's World Cup Initiative. Here are Clinton's remarks from
the event. The event was attended by goalkeepers Jill Loyden and Nicole Barnhart, midfielder Lori
Lindsey and defender Ali Krieger, as well as U.
U.S. WNT defender Ali Krieger, who lived in Germany for most of the past four years while playing
for FFC Frankfurt, is very popular with the German media, part of which can be attributed to her
ability to speak almost fluent German. Krieger, who left for Germany after finishing her college
career at Penn State, spoke not a word when she came over to play for Frankfurt, one of Europe's
top clubs.
There's always that first meeting...
Twenty-five of the finest women's soccer players in the country have convened in Los Angeles for
the first U.S. Women's National Team training camp of the year. Eight veterans, plus defender Ali
Krieger, are not at camp, which gives these next six days a youthful feel for sure.

ESPN is reporting a 2.6 overnight rating for yesterday's come-from-behind-advance-in-penalties FIFA
Women's World Cup quarterfinal against Brazil, and even those who didn't watch yesterday have
certainly seen media coverage of the team today.
This morning the U.S. Women were represented on Good Morning America on ABC, First Take on ESPN and
Morning Joe on MSNBC.
Considering the response with which the fan response to the Landon Donovan goal against Algeria was
met last summer during the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals, not surprising that Abby Wambach's more than
last minute goal against Brazil (and Ali Krieger's penalty shot) has received the same treatment.

Here is another in our series of U.S. WNT Player Profiles. For this one, we triple up defenders
with Amy LePeilbet, Becky Sauerbrunn and Ali Krieger. It's also our only WNT Player Profile that
has anyone setting up a defensive wall or anyone speaking German. So three cheers for the defense
as you get to know Amy, Becky and Ali just a little bit better.
Defender Ali Krieger has taken the path less traveled to the U.S. Women's National Team, to say
the least. As the USA's only player who was based abroad in the run-up to the 2011 FIFA Women's
World Cup, she's lived quite an adventure since graduating from college. Read about Ali's German
adventure and about the amazing twists of fate that have resulted in her playing in a World Cup in
the country that is her second home.
Bolton Wanderers | News | Latest News | General | Wanderers Snap-Up Pratley I missed this news over
the holiday weekend, but Bolton bolster their central midfield options - in the wake of releasing
Joey O'Brien and Tamir Cohen - by signing Swansea's Darren Pratley. Also, they have sold Ali Al
Habsi to Wigan after his loan spell there last season.
Down a goal and a player well into extra time, the U.S. women's national team looked ready to
see their 2011 World Cup end earlier than expected.
That was before Abby Wambach stepped up and delivered a historic equalizer, and Hope Solo made a
vital penalty shootout save to set the stage for an amazing comeback.
We had a wonderfully impromptu U.S. WNT watch party on the campus of Marquette University today, as
the game time was squeezed into the late morning/early afternoon before the Finals Weeks games
kicked off.
There were teams, technical advisors, YNT coaches and referees all trying to get in lunch or even
pre-game meals, not counting on there being an overtime to watch.

The 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup Final is just hours away. Game days - espcially when kickoff is
late - move pretty slowly. And this day in particular has been crawling along at a snail's pace!
Game day in the hotel generally consists of rest, meals, more rest, and a pre-game meal. Not much
to do other than get mentally prepared for the game.
With the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup now in the history books, the first FIFA Women's World
Rankings since the completion of the tournament are out. Despite Japan's penalty kick triumph over
the USA in the Final, there were no moves in the top five, with finalists the USA continuing to
lead the pack, followed by Germany, Brazil, Japan and Sweden.

Ali Krieger - USWNT right back present and future.
Ali Krieger made the leap into the main steam eye after coolly slotting home the 5th and
decisive penalty in the infamous quarterfinal against Brazil. Having played most of her
professional career in Germany, she might have gone under the casual fans radar, but as a rock at
right back, Krieger has been a mainstay on the USWNT for the past year.

On Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m., two days before the USA faces Sweden at the University of Phoenix Stadium,

Welcome to a new series where I will highlight the uncanny knack of teams, usually home teams,
managing to save something from a game that was slipping away from them.
Of course not every last minute goal need be controversial. Witness Michael Tomas at Anfield in '89
and even the other day between Chelsea and Aston Villa when Terry made it 3-2 only for an injury
time from the visitors.

Eight veterns + defender Ali Krieger are not in camp for the USA, but Rachel Buehler and Shannon
Boxx decided they REALLY missed the team and came by today to join training. Actually, both are
locally-based and U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage gave the players who live within driving distance of
the HDC the option of coming in to train, so the Buehldozer and Boxx decided to get a workout
today.

3-3 and a fantastic game of Futsal at the National Championships in Canberra.
Two absolute thunderbolts from ACT star Ali Cook brought the house down; mind you the NSW keeper
was unbelievable throughout.

In a photograph published in the Week in Review section of today's New York Times (as part of an
article called "In Peril: The Arab Status Quo") is a picture with a curious centerpiece. A crowd in
Tunisia (composed, as far as I could tell, entirely of men), is gathered demanding the ouster of
President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali.
After 23 years of repressive dictatorial rule, Tunisia took an enormous step in freeing itself
from it's chains of oppression yesterday with the departure of western backed tyrant Ben Ali and
the Trabelsi state sanctioned mafia (some high profile members of which are rumored to still be in
the country and attempting to flee).
