Due to the onslaught of rain yesterday, the grass training field was a bit water-logged so the team
trained on turf for the second time during this trip. It was actually a beautiful day in Kennesaw,
and as the U.S. team only had one practice today (there are two tomorrow), so it was a long one,
almost two hours in fact.
It is being reported locally that Singapore international defender Baihakki Khaizan is joining
Persib after being released by Persija at the end of last season.
He should be guaranteed a warm welcome when the bitter foes collide in Jakarta when the season
starts!
An interesting signing though one that I understand had been on the cards.
Following Persib's 6-0 humiliation against Sriwijaya last night in the Inter Island Cup there is
much soul searching going on Bandung way.
Management are pointing the finger at new coach Darko Janackovic and refuse to blame the defeat on
the absence of many players on international duty pointing out that Sriwijaya were in the same
boat.
abaixo.
Carli Lloyd could play her first WNT match since the end of March as she has recovered from an
ankle injury
With Hope Solo undergoing shoulder surgery next week, the preliminary roster for the U.S. WNT
matches against China on Oct. 2 in Kennesaw, Ga., and Oct. 6 in Chester, Pa.is down to 29
players.
U.S. WNT training camp started today in Kennesaw, Ga., with some light weight-lifting and recovery
as players arrived throughout the day. Defender Ali Krieger traveled the furthest, taking a flight
from Frankfurt, Germany (where she plays for FFC Frankfurt) to Atlanta, so she didn't have to lift.
Tomorrow, the players hit the field, but it will be mostly for some physical testing before the
soccer begins on Wednesday.
No one will travel as far to get to WNT camp than Ali Krieger did. The defender out of Dumfries,
Va., currently plays for FFC Frankfurt in the German Women's Bundesliga, where she has started her
fourth season. After six matches, Frankfurt (12 points) sits third behind FCR Turbine Potsdam (15)
and FCR Duisburg (13).
Defender Becky Sauerbrunn has been called into U.S. WNT Training Camp, replacing midfielder Joanna
Lohman, who has not sufficiently recovered from an ankle injury suffered in WPS play for the Philly
Independence. Sauerbrunn was one of the most consistent defenders in WPS this season and the
Ironwoman of the league, playing every minute of every match for the Washington Freedom.
