The performances of the North African national football sides in 2011 have reflected the
political actions of the Arab Spring.
The failure of Egypt, the champions of the past three tournaments, to qualify for the 2012
African Cup of Nations (ACN), alongside the absence of regional heavyweights Cameroon and Nigeria,
has thrown the tournament wide open.
It only seems like yesterday since that fateful day back in June of last year when
England's World Cup journey came to a shuddering halt against a young, fast-paced, powerful German
team that showed English fans everything that our team wasn't. Well, here we are only 16 months or
so later, with the first stages of Euro2012 already under our belt following the draw in Poland for
the Group matches, and frankly, nothing much has changed.
Cameroon's most decorated player and captain, Samuel Eto'o has 10 days to appeal his
International 15 game ban handed down to the striker after he incited player's to go on strike last
month which prompted Cameroon's friendly with Algeria to be postponed.
