We are one day away from the heavily-anticipated 2010 World Cup Final Draw, an event that will be
watched by hundreds of millions of people around the globe. Instead of waiting another 24 hours to
find out what the groups will look like next June in South Africa, I've held a mock draw of my own.
The results were as follows:
Group A: South Africa, Honduras, Uruguay, Serbia
Group B: Brazil, North Korea, Chile, Portugal
Group C: Argentina, South Korea, Nigeria, France
Group D: The Netherlands, Australia, Ghana, Slovenia
Group E: Spain, Mexico, Cameroon, Slovakia
Group F: England, Japan, Algeria, Switzerland
Group G: Germany, United States, Paraguay, Denmark
Group H: Italy, New Zealand, Cote d'Ivoire, Greece
- The United States was drawn into Group G along with Germany, Denmark and Paraguay, ranked 6th,
26th and 30th, respectively.
For years, the tabloid newspapers in England have been renowned for overhyping the expectations
of England's chances in the World Cup. Those wheels have already been set in motion and now The
Sun newspaper, which has a daily readership of 7.9 million, have declared that England's group
which includes the United States will be easy.
First, let me be the millionth person to say what an amazing draw for the USA. It's about as good
as we could've hoped, and for the first time actually we're a favorite to advance. What exactly are
the odds of us advancing after this lucky draw? Well, it depends on who you ask. It seems like
everybody has a national team rating system these days, so let's take a look at how each of them
rate our chances.
The draw for the 2010 World Cup is complete.
A couple of the groups contend for the "Group of Death" label. Group D with Germany, Australia,
Serbia and Ghana and Group G with Brazil, Portugal, Ivory Coast and North Korea. England got lucky
paired with USA, Algeria and Slovenia in Group C. Hosts South Africa have a tough draw but will
remain hopeful home advantage can lift them out of the group stage.
The United States drew a potentially positive group for next summer's World Cup on Friday. The
group as described by some European papers "is wide open" below the runaway favorite, England.
This group creates more possibilities of going forward for the United States than any of the
potential draws that naysayers, so blatantly shouted on about all week.
It's as good as the US men's national team could have expected for the World Cup draw, and no
doubt, USA fans will trot out the "1950" chant, recalling the massive upset by the USA against
England in that year.
It's time we started getting to know the 32 teams who will compete at World Cup 2010, and what
better way to get familiar than with a nickname? Below you'll find a list of the 32 teams, followed
by their most common nickname or nicknames.
Team nicknames usually refer to the colour of the shirt (eg the Azzurri or Les Bleus) or some
element of the football association crest (eg The Three Lions).
The World Cup draw earlier today was one of the better scenarios US fans could hope for. While
getting to see the great match up England vs USA, Americans fans are liking their chances against
Algeria and Slovenia. I'll try to post some more of my thoughts on the draw a little later, but
feel free to leave your comments here.
In October, Puma unveiled the 2010 football kits for the eleven African teams it sponsors: Ghana,
Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Egypt, Tunisia, Namibia, Morocco, Angola, Senegal and Togo. At
that time, Puma also announced the signing of Algeria FA with Les Fennecs (The Desert Foxes)
becoming part of the Puma football portfolio from January [.
Who Will Advance From World Cup Group C?(opinion)
Group C of the 2010 World Cup is one of the most interesting ones for several reasons, most of
which revolve around who will have win the bragging rights after the United States competes against
rival England. But who do you think will advance from Group C?
The U.S. Men's National Team was placed in Group C with England, Algeria and Slovenia in today's
World Cup draw in Capetown, South Africa. The allocation is a fortunate one for the Yanks, who face
quite possibly the easiest of the eight groups. Pressure will be on Bob Bradley's side to advance
to the elimination round perhaps even as group winners.
The draw for the First Round of FIFA World Cup 2010 is complete. Probably the biggest winner of the
draw was controversial qualifier France who were unseeded but drawn with hosts South Africa, Mexico
and Uruguay in Group A. England and USA were drawn together in Group C along with Algeria and
Slovenia.
The U.S. men's national team avoided being drawn into a Group of Death, and will now face a very
favorable path in the 2010 World Cup.
The Americans were drawn against a strong England side, but the rest of Group C is filled out
with beatable opponents Algeria and Slovenia to give the U.
England can breath a small sigh of relief following the World Cup draw, which saw them placed in
group C against the USA, Algeria and Slovenia. Although many feared England would be pitted against
the likes of Portugal or France, Fabio Capello's side avoided a ‘Group of Death' and instead
received .
EASY. England, Algeria, Slovenia, Yanks. That four-letter acrostic sums up the English view of
yesterday's World Cup draw. All of the press say that England will have a comfortable start to the
group phase, and in some quarters, there is already talk of a deep run through the knockout phase
all the way to the Final on 11 July 2010.
The Egyptian FA has confirmed ongoing negotiations to play England at Wembley on March 3 as part of
England's preparations for the World Cup. England manager Fabio Capello is keen to play a friendly
against a team with a similar style to England's Group C opponents Algeria, and has identified
Egypt .
With today's announcement from FIFA establishing which teams will be in the four pots ahead of
Friday's World Cup Draw, we can now focus on a more accurate attempt at a mock World Cup Draw.
In our first mock draw, the U.S. national team wound up in a group with Spain, Greece and
Uruguay, which wasn't quite a Group of Death, but a tough group nonetheless.
TEN POT OBSERVATIONS.
1. FIFA got the seedings right. Pot 1 seeds earned their ranking. France did not.
France's final appearance was four years ago.
2. Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay have come out of
the pot alignment better than most.
Who got the Group of Death, who got an easy draw?

Well, the World Cup Draw has come and gone. The United States is in Group C with England, Algeria
and Slovenia.
What do you think of the draw? Most experts are viewing this as a relatively easy draw for the
United States.
The U.S. opens against England in Rustenburg on June 12, their first World Cup matchup since the
Americans' 1-0 upset victory at the 1950 tournament in Brazil.
Saturday 12th June 2010, KO 7:30pm GMT - England v USA
Friday 18th June, KO 7.30pm GMT - England v Algeria
Wednesday 23rd June, KO 3:00pm GMT - England v Slovenia
So there's now no excuses for getting married on those dates
Well the US is going to Group C for next year's World Cup in South Africa and the draw is very
favorable.
I'll be back later today with more thoughts on this but first here are all the groups, feel free
to discuss.

Take your pick of places to check out guides to the group stages from English media, American
media, or the Official FIFA World Cup site.
This is how lucky the United States got Friday.
After the U.S. was drawn in Group C with England, if I could have handpicked a country from Pot
3 and Pot 4 I would have selected Algeria and Slovenia (if you don't believe me, I worte it
yesterday). For the U.S. to actually draw both those teams there was a 1/64 (1.
Group C: England, USA, Algeria, and Slovenia
If the USA does not get out of this group, we can forget progressing any other World Cup. This
is their weakest opposition in the last 20 years.
England, Slovenia, and Algeria are all eminently beatable. One team making their second World
Cup appearance, the other coming back after 24 years, and England a country scouring high and low
for a 1966 repeat after spending a considerable time in the international wilderness.
Okay, here's my take. What do you think of it all?
Group A South Africa, France, Uruguay, Mexico
I've been procrastinating over email about possible World Cup draws lately, and one of my
theories was that South Africa would get fed to the lions as a "see, we're not crooks" gesture from
FIFA*.
Now the draw for the group stages of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and we know that England
will face the USA, Algeria and Slovenia, it might well be a good time to have a look at the
possible routes that England will take if they are going to win the World Cup. If [...]
The World's most exciting, popular and costliest competition had the final draw of the Groups in
South Africa which turned out to be an exciting draw that has been ideal for many but nightmares
for a few. The 32 teams have been divided into 8 groups of 4 teams each. Group A naturally has the
hosts [.

As the dust has started to settle the last two weeks, the build up will get ever more intense
between now and June when the world's biggest sporting event kicks off in Soccer City,
Johannesburg. While much analyzing of all the groups and match-ups will take place to the point
where it may drive all of us insane the next few months and much will change between now and then,
we can all at least give our first reactions to the draw itself.
The United States will get three chances to gain precious points and advance out of the group stage
of the World Cup next June in South Africa. Whether it's England, Slovenia, or Algeria, every
match...
So FIFA officially unveiled its Seeding system for Friday's exciting/terrifying World Cup Draw,
and England will be top seeds. This means we can't be drawn against the other seeds, Spain, Brazil,
Holland, Italy, Argentina Germany or um, South Africa.
Apparently it was only just if FIFA had taken the Playoffs into account, France would have
jumped us.
At about 12:o3 p.m. EST on Friday, someone on ESPN (probably Alexi Lalas or John Harkes) will
give the following monologue:
"This is the day we've been waiting for. Trying to make predictions before the draw is foolish
because no one knows who's playing who. It's all about matchups! Depending on the group, the U.
It was so fun the first time, why not do it again? Especially now that we know the official
pots.
Here goes:
GROUP A -- South Africa, South Korea, Ghana, Denmark
GROUP B -- Italy, Japan, Algeria, Serbia
GROUP C -- England, Honduras, Paraguay, Switzerland
GROUP D -- Brazil, Australia, Cameroon, Portugal
GROUP E -- Netherlands, Mexico, Uruguay, France
GROUP F -- Germany, United States, Nigeria, Slovakia
GROUP G -- Spain, New Zealand, Chile, Slovenia
GROUP H -- Argentina, North Korea, Ivory Coast, Greece
Obviously the group involving Mexico and the United States look to be the toughest.
Everyone is doing it so why not. I even went as far as putting all the pots together and drawing
out each country one-by-one, though with paper and not little plastic balls. Since this is pure
guess work its probably far from what will actually happen tomorrow afternoon.
So here we go.
Even though David Beckham's hair is embarrassing us, we still believe. Oh, yes we believe. Image

Were you watching? For those in a non-footy environment, we offer our condolences. Trying to
explain to randoms why you are excited, flushed and hitting refresh on your computer every 40
nanoseconds can be stressful.

England and the United States in the same World Cup group is a draw that is made of dreams for
me. Not purely because I'm an American citizen and a British citizen, but because it'll shut a lot
of people up. Whether that's the egotistical English journalists that feel that a game against the
United States will be a pushover for England.
So the World Cup Draw has been made, and England are in Group C with USA, Algeria and Slovenia.
I'm pretty happy with that. I think they will be trickier than some people appear to think, (USA
beat Spain afterall, and England only managed to beat Slovenia recently due to a penalty), but I
think we will get through the group, most likely as winners.
To say the U.S. got a tough draw at the 2006 World Cup would be an understatement. Paired with
European heavyweights Italy and the Czech Republic and African upstart Ghana, the Americans
struggled in Germany and finished a disappointing fourth place in their group.
But it was a different story this time around for the U.
