After finally ending a run of six matches without defeat in a 2-1 win over Uruguay on Saturday,
Argentina followed it up on Wednesday night by losing to trans-Andean neighbours Chile for the
first time ever in a competitive match. It was a win Marcelo Bielsa's team thoroughly deserved, and

Following the experimentation of the North American friendlies last week, it was back to serious
business for the selección on Sunday night, with a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador which
was expected to be a mere warm up for the midweek clash away to Brazil. It proved a little trickier

leaders Paraguay in the South American qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup. The selección didn't
look particularly hot in front of their own fans, falling a goal down early on after dominating the
opening exchanges before going a man down [.
It's getting on for 2am and the international friendly between Belarus and Argentina on Wednesday
evening was so 'friendly' that neither side bothered to trouble the opposing goalkeeper unduly, by
all reports. I can't even offer my own opinions on the matter because like the patriotic idiot I
