The International Break is a Welcome One for Top Squads
The 1-1 Inter-Roma draw this weekend highlighted the risk for top flight Serie A clubs
participating in international tournaments; Inter has played three matches this month already and
eight in the past 22 days.

Fairly good week for goals, as only one game finished 0-0 (Catania-Napoli, but ask Takayuki
Morimoto about that). The top scorer table is still wide open, as Di Natale started strong but now
has cooled off so he remains at 9, while Hamsik is second with 7 and that's impressive for a
midfielder.

David Beckham signed for AC Milan on loan last season and proved such a hit that the England
midfielder will again pull on the AC Milan shirt for the second half of this season to give himself
the best possible chance to reach the 2010 World Cup and Milan coach Leonardo is looking forward
to adding Beckham to his squad.

There was end-to-end action pretty much everywhere you looked on Matchday 4 of the UEFA
Champions League. A couple of high profile matches delivered the goods, with late equalizers in
Madrid and Manchester scuttling a Chelsea comeback against Atletico and a CSKA upset of United.

Real Madrid vs AC Milan
Clarence Seedorf believes his side are starting to find their rhythm. Before last month's match
against Real Madrid, AC Milan had only won one match in five. Since their 3-2 triumph in Madrid
they have taken seven of nine possible points bringing them to fourth in Serie A.

in the new year for a loan stint.
AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani has now revealed it is certain the former Real Madrid

Goalkeeper: Igor Akinfeev (CSKA Moscow)
Despite being on the losing side Akinfeev kept his team close with Manchester United testing him
eight times and only finding the net once. The Russian international is a top-class keeper and
denied the likes of Berbatov Valencia a number of times.
Centre-Back: Sebastien Squillaci (Sevilla FC)
Squillaci has plenty of Champions League experience and is will be an important part of
Sevilla's side if they want to make a run.

While Wednesday's UEFA Champions League matches didn't have the same kind of upsets, save for
one that was fairly huge. AC Milan, who had been off to a slow, struggling start to the 2009

AC Milan came from behind to beat Real Madrid 3-2 at the Bernabeu last night in their UEFA

I think it is fair to say that AC Milan's start to the season has been less than impressive to
say the least. However, victory over Roma at the weekend propelled them into the top half of the
table and then last night the Rossonerri did the unthinkable and beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu
in the Champions League.

Chelsea came out of a disappointing weekend in the Premier League at Villa Park with an emphatic

Lights! Camera! Action! The second half had it all. Saves, goals, a melee, and a win for
beleaguered AC Milan.
Clarence Seedorf showed an exquisite touch chipping the ball to Alexandre Pato who volleyed home
the match winner past Iker Casillas. Seedorf was peripatetic, playing with a vigour that put some
of the younger players to shame.

As reported in my last Serie A review, there were two big games this weekend with Milan
taking on Roma at the San Siro and Juventus taking on Fiorentina at the Olimpico. Milan needed
victory if Leonardo was to remain as manager for at least another week, while Juventus needed a win
to restart their title bid after failing to win in their previous three games.

This is going to be a good goals of the week post. There are many nice goals, and in particular
the goals from Stankovic and Dessena are awesome to watch. Goals after the jump.
Dejan Stankovic vs. Genoa Stankovic notices that Amelia makes an error on the clearance and moves
to the right, hitting the ball on the volley from way out and it sailed over Amelia and into the
net.

Who are the very best young players in the world? For the purposes of this article, "young
players" are those no older than 22.
First there are the obvious: Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Alexandre Pato, Francesc Fabregas,
Karim Benzema, etc. Their class has been established before this mysterious "young" label
vanished, and subsequently they command enormous transfer fees, if their clubs are even willing to
part with them.

Catania general manager, Pietro Lo Monaco, claims that Sir Alex Ferguson is interested in their

bottom in Serie A last season, which leads Lo Monaco to believe they have no chance of holding on
to the young star.

What a difference a week makes.
Seven days ago it was the red and black side of Milan who were flush with optimism, stunned at a
reversal in fortunes that had seen their hopes shattered in pre-season and then steadily rebuilt in
Siena.
They had witnessed the first tentative steps of the apparent rebirth of Ronaldinho, they had
seen Alexandre Pato set himself up for what many to believe will be "his" season with two clinical
goals, and they had seemingly allayed any fears that the ageing and aching limbs of Andrea Pirlo,
Gennaro Gattuso, Alessandro Nesta, Gianluca Zambrotta and Marek Jankulovski were a bridge that not
even the confident and bullish Leonardo and the downright brash Silvio Berlusconi could cross.

With the departure of Kaka from AC Milan to join the bright lights of Madrid the responsibility
for getting Milan back on track has been left on the shoulders of young Brazilian forward Alexandre
Pato.
Many Milan fans will be hoping to see Ronaldinho step up this season and play for the Milan
jersey after what could only be described as an average season for the former World player of the
year and the hopes are not high by many Milan fans that he will turn it around this season.
