The marriage between the Swiss striker Alexander Frei and BVB looks to be getting shakier by the
day. The likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Napoli and Paris St. Germain have been put on red alert after
Switzerland star Alexander Frei delivered a less than convincing pledge of commitment to Borussia
Dortmund.
Following the departure of Alexander Frei to Basel, Dortmund are preparing to swoop for his
replacement.
Names on the list include Nantes' Ivan Klasnic, Robert Lewandoski of Lech Poznan, and interestingly
Andriy Voronin of Liverpool.
While Klasnic is reported by Bild to be their number one target, the Croatian only moved to France
last season, signing a four-year deal, thus that idea could prove to be too expensive for Dortmund
to implement.
An understated triumph, I suspect. It was a ragged game for sure, but Basel are a serious
team, and our boys beat them. That's pretty good going, and we're now top of the group.
Hodgson blended possibles and probables, bringing in Kelly, Baird, Smalling, Riise and Greening
to supplement a good core of regulars.
Clint Dempsey came on for the final 20 minutes as Fulham advanced to the knockout stage of the
Europa League with a 3-2 win over FC Basel. Fulham finished second in Group E to AS Roma. Bobby
Zamora socred in the 42nd and 45th to give Fulham a 2-0 lead at the half. Alexander Frei cut that
to one from the penalty spot in the 64th-minute.
The last match day contained the most electrifying derby in the Bundesliga – the so called
"Revier-Derby". It's the matchup between Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund. The repulsion between
these two teams is so strong, that the fans even use synonyms, when they talk about the opposing
team.

Most of the headlines focus around Group G, the consensus "Group of Death" with Brazil,
Portugal, Côte d'Ivoire, and North Korea, and the pairing of England and the United States in
Group C. For Spain and manager Vicente del Bosque, privately they will be happy with their draw
in Group H, the match schedule in terms of time, and the general lack of travel for their opening
three games.
Bobby Zamora, yes Bobby Zamora, scored two goals right before half-time as Fulham upset Basel
3-2 in Switzerland to book a place in the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League.

Basel were heavy favorites here to progress to the knockout stages after having won all five of
their previous European home games, while Fulham had yet to get an away win.
