Pioneer men tie Falcons

After 110 minutes of play neither the Pioneers nor the Falcons could score a goal Saturday at CIBER field at the University of Denver.

DU is now (2-4-3, 0-0-1 MPSF) and Air Force (6-2-1, 0-0-1 MPSF). Saturday's match was the opener in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play for both sides.

Charleston too much for DU

The men's game between University of Denver and College of Charleston began slow and ended with excitement in the second half as Charleston won 3-2 at CIBER Field.

After this loss DU is now, (1-3-2) while Charleston is now, (4-2-1).

Charleston player Andy Craven scored the first and only goal in the first half of the game.

University of Denver midfielder Brian Hoyt scored both Pioneers goals, but the College of Charleston put three tallies on the scoreboard to defeat the Pioneers 3-2 at CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

"I didn't think we played particularly well in any portion of the game, but I guess we were good enough to get two back," said head coach Bobby Muuss.

University of Denver men's soccer player Nate Sackeyfio scored his first goal of the season, but the No. 20 Pioneers' upset bid fell just short, as No. 6 Indiana edged DU 2-1 at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament at Notre Dame's Alumni Stadium on Sunday morning.

Trailing by two goals early, the Pioneers (0-2-2) cut the deficit in half in the 41st minute.

The No. 19 University of Denver men's soccer team was edged 1-0 to No. 6 Creighton in the season opener at CIBER Field on Saturday night.

"I think Creighton is a legitimate national championship contender, and I think our guys came out here and battled them, playing our brand of soccer," head coach Bobby Muuss said.
