The MLS Expansion Draft to supply the Philadelphia Union with its first roster took from
Columbus a great goal-scoring threat in Alejandro Moreno and now they need to "refresh" their
team?
They lost one guy and now the word "refresh" is being thrown around like they just blew up their
entire team.
Matt Bernhardt correlates the success of the Columbus Crew to having 4-6 players play 90% of the
season:
Regardless of the reason, however, a look at history shows that the Crew has done the
best when it has been able to keep a larger core of players on the field for the majority of the
season.
So, here we are in the dead of another frigid yet snowless Ohio winter, and news out of the Crew
front office has been nonexistent as of late. There really has been no significant news since
Alejandro Moreno got picked up by Philly in the expansion draft.
The contract talks with Guillermo Barros Schelotto have cooled off quite a bit since the
original "will he/won't he/what is Hunt Sports Group thinking/holy crap if the Crew loses GBS there
is no hope" fervor.
Per Sean Michelle. I guess Clark Hunt found some extra change in his sofa. Even Will Hesmer gets a
raise:
The Crew is close to finalizing new deals with Jed Zayner and Jason Garey, two of the
three players who are out of contract at the end of the month. Guillermo Barros Schelotto is the
other, and a new agreement with "The Little Guy," as Alejandro Moreno calls him, is hoped to be
reached before the holidays.
