(* This project really needs a name - suggestions are 105% welcome. A five-minute brainstorm
yielded "Project Crewpid," but I think something better is possible.) I scanned this great sketch
of Alejandro Moreno (well...I liked it) and was prepared to post that over a report on the Columbus
Crew's opening day win over Toronto FC.
"The more I stare at the list, the more I think the majority of players can fit in either
category. Can't say I understand how Major League Soccer comes up with salary figures, but only
that it doesn't tally." With the number of those who have read and commented being roughly
equal, I'm confident everyone [.
Translation from ABN:
The attacker Jorge "Zurdo" Rojas finally signed for Red Bull New York.
As the player himself reported it this Saturday night in Maturín after taking part in Messi
and Ronaldinho's Juego de Otra Galaxia. "Yes, finally I signed with Red Bull yesterday
(Friday) in principle for a year and a half, I am happy with the decision," the midfielder
explained to ABN.
As the All-Star rosters are now official, its time to put together the group of eleven that didn't
make but had a damn good reason for making it. I've stated my opinion on some that got snubbed but
figured that it would be best to put out a full starting lineup of guys that didn't [...]
With the Columbus Crew's defense preview out of the way, it's time to turn to the Crew's offense.
Before going any farther, let me just acknowledge one thing: offense and defense don't separate
perfectly in soccer; anyone who has seen Frankie Hejduk blaze down the right side to fire in
crosses (of whatever quality) [.
The popularity of MLS in Venezuela has grown leaps and bounds with the Red Bulls acquisitions of
Gabriel Cichero and most importantly Jorge ''Zurdo'' Rojas. Venezuela's lavinotinto.com
(http://www.lavinotinto.com/detalle_noticia.php?id_categoria=45&id=23070) is reporting on the
importance of tonights match which will feature the Columbus Crew's Venezuelan International
striker Alejandro Moreno and the Red Bull's Venezuelan duo of Cichero and Rojas.
(I know, it's been a while - Hopefully I'll get Weeks 5-10 up eventually.)
"I don't doubt it was a hand ball, but the guy looked like the jockey on Big Brown on his back. That's either got to be a penalty kick or it's got to be a goal."
Crew coach Sigi Schmid after Alejandro Moreno [...]
Hope everyone is enjoying their Monday here. If you've been watching some Euro 2008, I'm sure you have been enjoying the day. Very entertaining game between Holland and Italy. Kind of odd to see Italy get beat 3-0 like that, but kudos to the Dutch for their play.
Anyways, I thought today would be a good [.
Top XI

With only a couple weeks left to vote, fans are starting to pile on the votes for their favorite
players in Major League Soccer for this summer's All-Star game in Toronto. Not a lot of changes at
the top of the overall voting list.In fact that top three remain: David Beckham Landon Donovan
Cuauhtemoc Blanco Once you get by the [.
A list of all penalties can be found on the league stats page (scroll to the bottom). However, on
that page they don't list who earned and conceded the penalties like they used to a few years back.
I've always missed that, so by looking through match reports I keep track of it myself.
With only 23 penalties given so far this season, there's not too much to notice on these lists.
In his return to the lineup for Kansas City, Josh Wolff salvaged a point for the Wizards in
Columbus tonight. Kansas City came out strong, pressuring Columbus high and not giving them a lot
of space. The Wizards capitalized on that pressure in the 22nd minute, when a Claudio Lopez free
kick was not fully cleared.
What was up last night during the Columbus v Kansas City game with announcer John Harkes calling
Guillermo Barros Schelotto, "guh-LAIR-moe", the whole game. Was he kidding? Was it an
inside joke? Did no one on the production staff tell this guy how to pronounce a name? His TV
partner JP Dellacamera got it right.
Just came back from the Dynamo/Columbus game. Like I said up top, an old-fashioned beat down.
(Here's a running account from Bernardo Fallas.)
Columbus was not without chances in the second half, but that's why Pat Onstad, bless his
40+-year-old Canadian self, is still one of the top keepers ever to play in this league, to stop
those chances cold, and in the most dispiriting fashion possible.
The Crew are still near the top of their conference, while the Wizards are at the other end.
Nothing is promised in MLS, though, so lets follow the bouncing ball.
