Ahead of Wednesday night's League Cup game against Crystal Palace, Sir Alex Ferguson has
confirmed that we will be playing a young side like usual.
Palace are currently 10th in the Championship and managed to beat Southampton, who are top of
the table, in the competition last month.
Ferguson is putting his faith in youth though and singles out Paul Pogba as a player who might
start.

While risking sycophancy, it seems fitting to tribute this post to therealfacup. Not so long ago, I
had little interest in the Cup's First Round or anything that preceded it. My focus was on Plymouth
Argyle, its status as a Championship club and not a lot else. If asked whether I was a fan of
football or Argyle, then my answer was a depressingly parochial one.
What's the best way to put a terrible defeat behind you? One word: winning. After Sunday's
Manchester derby disaster, Manchester United took a step in the right direction with a comfortable
3-0 win at Aldershot in the fourth round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday. However, as nice as that
win was, a win against [.

In the words of the gaffer it's time to "kick-on" following last week's Derby loss to City and
get back to what United know best winning.
United face a trip to Goodison this weekend to take on David Moyes' Everton, and Sir Alex has
challenged Wayne Rooney to lead the fight back from the sides derby mauling by putting his old club
to the sword.
Now that we've had a few days to digest our implosion against Manchester City, the only thing to
do now is move on. It's confined to the history books, forget it. Nothing can be changed now. The
only thing that can be done is correcting it in the future. Starting on Saturday when we kick-off
at noon away to Everton.
If you could choose one moment that best encapsulates the raw talent of Ravel Morrison, you'd go
back a fortnight to a Manchester Senior Cup game against Bolton's Reserves. 93 minutes had passed
on what was nothing more than a dour encounter and, with the score at 0-0, Morrison had shifted
responsibility upon himself to put things right.

With most of the players involved in the derby-day pasting at the weekend given the night off,
Manchester United wafted through to the quarter finals of the Carling Cup with a 3-0 victory over
League Two side Aldershot at the Recreation Ground last night with Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen
and Park Ji-Sung doing the honours for United.

We'll have photos and highlights up shortly so you can judge for yourself, but we can't help but
feel that the BBC's cutting appraisal of Aldershot's performance against Manchester United is a tad
on the harsh side...
Typos can be so cruel.

Alderwhat? Sir Alex Ferguson's attempts to show some respect to lower league opposition Aldershot
when he accidentally called them Aldershit instead. The Manchester United gaffer talked down his
opponents during his pre-match interview. At least the Red Devils backed up their boss' trash talk
with a convincing win.

League Two side Aldershot's humble 7,100 capacity (4,000 seated) Recreation Ground known
formally and commercially as the 'EBB Stadium' is set to play host to Premier League goliaths
Manchester United in the Fourth round of the Carling Cup a week next Tuesday and, with tickets
going on sale yesterday, we thought we'd give you all a little sneak peak of the venue that is
lying in wait for Fergie's high-rollers (or at least the second/third string of Fergie's

Ok, this is a weird one, and I'm still not entirely sure why I am bothering to post this up, but
I have, and you are now reading it, so let's crack on.
I had what can only be described as the most vivid, lucid dream / premonition with regards to
Arsenal drawing Manchester United in the Carling Cup quarters.
Arsenal have been handed a home draw at Emirates Stadium against Bolton Wanderers in the Fourth
Round of the Carling Cup.
The Gunners secured their passage to this stage of the competition with a 3-1 victory over
Shrewsbury at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
Bolton made it to the Fourth Round with a 2-0 win at Aston Villa.

For many football fans around the world the game is so much more than just watching players
kicking a ball around a muddy field for 90 minutes. There are so many sub cultures identified with
the game that, when added together, combine to make football what it is; the world's greatest
spectacle.
The easiest for young fans to get involved in is Programme collecting.
In June, Ben Piggott ran the rule over the fortunes of Football League players in that month's
European Under-21 Championship, with Aron Gunnarsson and Mikkel Andersen in particular enjoying
less than fruitful campaigns. Now, the man behind the illustrations that adorn this website turns
his attention to the recent Under-20 World Cup, a tournanment that has been covered expertly by Two

Aldershot and Swindon both caused shocks, as Liverpool, Blackburn, Everton and Bolton eased into
the Carling Cup third round.

England's friendly against Holland at Wembley on Wednesday night has been called off as the
London rioting intensified last night.
With the City in flames overnight and gangs taking a stronghold of large sections of the
capital and Police resources stretched to their limit, the FA have made the right call on
cancelling the much anticipated clash.
So an SLeague side is going to take on Albirex Niigata to raise money for victims in Japan's recent

Not a big fan of these, gotta say. You know when you get people like Bono crawling out the woodwork
telling me I 'must' help the victims of a disaster, man made or whatever, it sickens me.

Luckily I wasn't there, I was walking on the Dorset downs. Wonderful countryside. Unluckily for my
informant he was standing on our spot at Whaddon Road. He texted the bad news as it laboriously
unfolded. The reception was poor which meant the texts came late and in an odd order.
With a fortnight having passed since the keys turned in the lock of the transfer kitty vaults, I
thought I would attempt to identify which ten of the myriad deals done may benefit purchasers most
in the short term. The list below is a subjective one, peppered with both the obvious and the
unheralded, and no doubt destined to be debunked four months from now.
Between ourselves and fellow Football League websites The Seventy Two and Soccer AM/MW, coverage
of Chesterfield Football Club's 2010-11 has been scant thus far - surprising given the club's
arrival in a new home and subsequent ascent to a comfortable first place in League Two. With the
Derbyshire men a full eleven points clear of fourth placed Bury, it was high time we put this
oversight right.
Tim Sills: Has returned to Aldershot
Tim Sills' move to Aldershot brings the total number of strikers to have left Stevenage this
January to 4. Lee Boylan and Terry Dixon were released, while Peter Vincenti signed for Aldershot
last week. Sills has followed in Vincenti's path and has joined Dean Holdsworth's Shots after his
contract at Broadhall Way was terminated earlier in the day.
