Before Freddy Adu or Jozy Altidore, there was Santino Quaranta, the great young hope for American
soccer. He had loads of talent and looked to be a player around which a team could be built, so at
age 16, DC United signed him to a pro-contract. All started out fine, but soon the pressure and
loneliness of a child in an adult's world would get the better of him.
It was bound to happen eventually: Diego Simeone could no longer stand Ariel Ortega's alcoholic
problem and finally decided to seperate him from the team. After another incident this weekend, the
ex-Estudiantes coach chose to have a long chat with Jose Maria Aguilar to decide where the idol's
future would be, and it most definitely wasn't in Nuñez.
So bad that owner Mike Ashley is not only sneaking alcohol at the Emirates, but...
Well just watch.
Leo Beenhakker presented today a list of players that will compete for Poland in the upcoming
World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and San Marino. As expected, Artur Boruc, Dariusz Dudka and
Radoslaw Majewski were not included after their alcohol adventures in Ukraine. The biggest news is
the call up for the Polish league's top goalscorer Pawel Brozek.
Kings of the jungle On Saturday evening I was part of a drunk, betting syndicate that decided the
odds on Hull City to beat Arsenal were just too generous to ignore. £100 later and suddenly we
all look like footballing Nostradamus'. Yet none of us seriously expected a return on our alcohol
fuelled punt as the sincere pre-match predictions were whether Arsenal would score 5 or 6 or 7.
"I don't know how much of what's on my brain should come off my tongue."

Completely random thoughts:
Do we think the Bears would have released Cedric Benson for his second alcohol arrest in five weeks if he'd been, say, a 1,200-yard rusher every season?
Why don't soccer teams do things like this anymore?
The Foxes are training in some secret location in Slovenia apparently.
There will be a friendly match but all held behind closed doors.
There is some discussion on the fan website about the delights Slovenia has to offer, including, it
would seem, some 'party girls' and copious amounts of alcohol.
Not that I'm excited about the prospect of a global financial meltdown and a Second Great
Depression, but how awesome is it that Manchester United's shirt sponsor looks like it will be the
next to implode? As I just read on the Blogs:
The message is loud and clear: AIG is toast.
The Weevils could well be running around with shirts that say PANIC!
Oh, but isn't it glorious to look up and see the collective ass of the rest of the league above
you? Even the Expansion Fever-ridden half-team out in San Jose has climbed above us, and we've even
played a game more than them! There is such a thing as "taking time to gel". There is
also "fading into obscurity".
Joey Barton faces 12-match ban from FA for his attack on Ousmane Dabo
According to Kevin Keegan, Joey Barton is drinking "in the last-chance saloon'', which is the
last place the troubled midfielder should be given the effect alcohol has on his self-restraint
mechanisms.

El capitán del equipo de Anfield jugó el mismo día un partido correspondiente a la
Premier League a mediodía en Newcastle, donde ganó el Liverpool (1-5) con dos goles
suyos.
