TweetBlackburn Rovers have been relegated to the Championship after a 1-0 defeat at home to Wigan
and former defender Henning Berg has laid the blame firmly at Venky's. Antolin Alcaraz headed a
late winner as Wigan condemned Blackburn to relegation (and ensured their own Barclays Premier
League survival) thus leaving the future of Rovers boss [.
1. At one point it appeared that this bloke had gone to get a topical t-shirt printed mid-match. 2.
Being played off the park at the Emirates must hurt Arsene Wenger far more than being kicked off
the park at the Britannia. 3. During commentary, Sky Sports' Martin Tyler said that Wenger was the

I like Roberto Martinez as a manager and Wigan Athletic as a football club. If someone told me
Arsenal would lose to Wigan on Monday but win the remaining four and secure third spot I'd take it,
especially if it helped the visitors stay up. But the simple fact of the matter is that no one is
offering such a deal.

Manchester City FC's perfect home Premier League record has ended as they needed two late goals
to draw 3-3 with Sunderland while Wolves looked a certainty for the drop after losing at home to
fellow strugglers Bolton.
City fell behind to a Sebastian Larsson strike on 31 minutes, but Mario Balotelli levelled from
the spot but Nicklas Bentner headed Sunderland back in front before the break in a pulsating
first-half in Manchester.

Referees are picking on Craig Bellamy, says Liverpool's Kenny Dalglish
• Striker has seen yellow in Liverpool's past four matches • Dalglish sympathises with
Blackburn's league plight Kenny Dalglish has questioned whether there is an agenda against Craig
Bellamy, who is under threat of suspension after a spate of harsh bookings.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was the centre of attention after receiving his eight-match ban but
the Uruguay international cut a frustrated figure as his side were held to a goalless draw at
Wigan.
Perhaps understandably the Reds' top scorer, playing just 24 hours after learning of the lengthy
suspension handed down by the Football Association, faded as the game wore on.

Hello and I hope you're having a super Saturday. There's Arsenal today and there can't be
anything bad about that. Well, not if we win the game anyway. Today sees us visiting the DW Stadium
to face Wigan, a team mired in the relegation zone. After the sacking of Steve Bruce at Sunderland,
it would be fair to say that Roberto Martinez will be slightly worried about his position.

In this week's review section, we congratulate Ronaldo, while former Juventus boss is jailed and
Wigan defender causes a spitting row. You can listen to these and other stories on our weekly
podcast and can find explanations of key vocabulary in bold below, or highlighted

After starting the season with their customary 4-3-3 formation, Wigan have now lined up in a
3-4-3 system ever since their 3-3 draw with Blackburn on November 19th. Roberto Martinez trialled
the system in a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on October 1st, but then reverted back to his familiar
4-3-3 for their following game against Bolton.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish believes Craig Bellamy is being unfairly treated by referees.
The Welshman has a feisty reputation and his manager fears that may be working against the forward
after four bookings in as many matches.
Dalglish has been disappointed by the yellow cards Bellamy has received in the recent games against
Fulham and Wigan, and the Scot hopes a pattern is not developing.
BRAZIL 0:0 PARAGUAY aet; Paraguay won 2-0 on penalties
CHILE 1:2 VENEZUELA Vizcarrondo 34' (0-1), Suazo 69' (1-1), Cichero 80' (1-2)
After Colombia and hosts Argentina exited on Saturday, Sunday's 2011 Copa America claimed the
biggest scalp of all - Brazil. Much fancied Chile also lost, 2-1 to Venezuela, emerging like Peru
as the surprise package of the tournament.
Brazil were fortunate to draw with Paraguay in the Group stage
Brazil take on Paraguay in the quarter-finals of the Copa America this afternoon in La Plata.
With hosts Argentina out of the competition, Brazil are now the firm favourites but Paraguay will
be a tricky opponent. In the Group stage, the pair drew 2-2; Fred coming off the bench to secure a
late equalizer for Brazil.
Brazil 2:2 Paraguay
1-0 Jadson 38', 1-1 Santa Cruz 54', 1-2 Valdez 66', 2-2 Fred 89'.
Group B could be becoming the group of death in this year's Copa America after a third consecutive
draw.
Jadson, the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, gave Brazil a first-half lead with a long-range effort but
a shock was soon on the cards after the break as Roque Santa Cruz equalised for Paraguay and then
Nelson Haedo Valdez gave La Albirroja the lead in the 66th minute.
It was certainly a close one this weekend, but as Sigi Schmid said, the Sounders will take the 3
points after a tough 1-0 win in stoppage time against Sporting Kansas City. Jeff Parke was the hero
of the game with his stoppage time header and has been acknowledged by Soccer-by-Ives as their MLS
player of the week.
One week after celebrating a monumental win against their heated rivals from New York, the
Philadelphia Union (3-1-0) will host a team from the other side of the country as the Seattle
Sounders (1-2-2) are coming to town for a 4:00 game that will take place during both a Philadelphia
76ers AND a Philadelphia Flyers playoff game.

Not the final everyone assumed 3 weeks ago, but it's the final nonetheless. Paraguay have
reached the final game by not even winning a game. 5 draws, 2 shootouts, 5 goals scored, 5 goals
against. They're hoping this one goes to penalties. Uruguay though are a talented team lead by the
two pronged attack of Forlan and Suarez.
Paraguay shocked Brazil in a penalty shootout to advance to the Copa America semifinals today.
In 24 hours both Argentina and Brazil have been knocked out of the Copa America on penalties.
Amazingly, Paraguay is yet to win a game in the tournament, but it will face either Chile or
Venezuela, for the right to reach the Copa America Final.
Roberto Martinez had an offer to take over at Aston Villa. Bigger club. Bigger supporter base. More
money to spend. Europa League ambitions. Darren Bent and others. But he stayed loyal to his
chairman David Whelan by rejecting the move ... Continue reading →
