trophy
The 2009 League Cup draw was held this afternoon at the Jalan Besar Stadium's National Football
Academy Conference Room.
The Groupings as follows:
- Group A - SAFFC, Brunei DPMM, Albirex Niigata (S)

The top two sides in each group progressing into the quarter finals.
It's becoming a familiar score this season but last night no points were at stake as Tampines
Rovers took on North Queensland Fury in a friendly at Jalan Besar. Pre match all the hype was about
the apperance of Robbie Fowler and for that reason alone wtickets prices maxxed out at 25 SGD.
About the same as an Albirex Niigata scarf then!

Quarter Final Draw
Super Reds v Woodlands Wellington
Home United v Gombak United
DPMM v Geylang United
Tampines Rovers v SAF
SAF seem to fly in the face of accepted football practise in the early 21st century. Many
successful clubs round the world look to power and pace with healthy doses of youth as they seek to
fill their mantelpiece with silverware.
Much of Gombak United's success has come from their powerful triumvirate up front of Agu Casmir,
Kingsley Njouke and Gabriel Obatola.
The national team may never sit atop the FIFA world rankings, while most European fans remain
blissfully ignorant of the colourful crowds that pack into grounds to witness one of the most
evenly contested leagues in the world. But there's no denying that Japanese football is unique.
The J.
June 1 sees the start of the Singapore League Cup (SLC) with the 12 members of the SLeague facing
off against each other for the chance of some silverware.
Woodlands Wellington won the first edition of this trophy in 2007 while last year Gombak United
collected it.
This season sees some changes with the competition beginning with a group format, replacing the
knock out manner of earlier years.
Albirex Niigata v Tampines Rovers 3-0 (Kenji Adachihara, Ryota Kobayashi, Akira Takase) 1,506
Woodlands Welington v Sengkang Punggol 0-0 1,167
Tampines Rovers second defeat of the season couldn't have come at a worse time of the season,
sitting five points behind leaders SAF who they meet on Sunday.
Home United v Geylang United 2-2 (Geylang win 4-3 on aggregate)
Heartbreak for Home as Peres De Oliveria's last minute penalty wasn't enough to drag Srivaji's men
into a Singapore Cup semi final. Instead it is the Eagles who find themselves alongside TTM Samut
Sakorn and Bangkok Glass awaiting the winners of tomorrow's final q/f between Tampines Rovers and

for Persijap, hit the foot of the post with a free header, as opposed to a header you must book in
advance on line and pay for using a credit card.

To the outsider finding information about Singapore can be frustrating at times. The local media
hardly touch the game at all and when the majors cover it you can be sure the story bleeds
negativity.
There are a couple of websites and message boards that do a good job of providing information and
some clubs even have web sites of varying quality.
DPMM v Balestier Khalsa 2-0 (Shahrazen Said, Rene Komar) 6,951
Tampines Rovers v Super Reds 2-0 (Riduan, Noh Alam Shah) 2,001
Albirex Niigata v SAF 1-3 (Tetsuya Kitshida; Shaiful Esah, Syed Karim, Zulfadli Zainal Abidan)

Home United v Young Lions 3-2 (Kengne Ludovic 2, Shi Jiayi; Fairoz Hasan, Faritz Abdul Hameed)

Gombak United v Woodlands Wellington 1-2 (Agu Casmir; Zakaria Yusof, Jamil Ali) 2,185

4 - DPMM 16 9 5 2 21-12 32
July 10 sees Tampines take on DPMM while tomorrow we have SAF v Gombak United!
SLeague
DPMM v Albirex Niigata 2-1 (Haji Subhi Abdilah, Ivan Jerkovic; Tetsuya Kishida) 4,429
Tampines Rovers v Gombak United 2-1 (Qiu Li, Sutee Suksomkit; Fazrul Nawaz) 2,887
Both DPMM and Tampines were forced to come from behind to keep the pressure on leaders SAF but the
Stags stay second four points behind the leaders.
Balesiter Khalsa v Albirex Niigata 2-0 (Oh In Kyun, Jun Jin) 1,184
Three goals in three games for Oh In Kyun, Balesiter's Korean led revival has seen them climb off
the bottom of the SLeague, overtaking Young Lions in the process. Unprecedented back to back wins,
indeed we could go back further and say one defeat in four games, has changed the Tigers fortunes
but.
While Singaporeans continue to analyse their defeat by Liverpool and question the future of the
game, check out threads on Kallang Roar and HWZ, there is the small matter of the SLeague to be
addressed. And Sunday night sees Tampines Rovers v Singapore Armed Forces at the Tampines
Stadium.
If this was the EPL then Football fans in Lion City would have been fed a non stop diet of analysis
and views on TV, in newspapers and on the internet.

Kashima Antlers still top the J-League followed Kawasaki Frontale, Albirex Niigata and Urawa Reds.
Geylang United v Albirex Niigata 1-0 (Haruki Seto) 2,105
Seto scored his second goal in two games for free-scoring Geylang...and that's it. I was there and
didn't even bother using the camera.
It's been a tough week for the citizens of Shimizu.
Faced with the indignity of not one S-Pulse player making the J. Allstars team, football fans awoke
last Tuesday to a sizeable earthquake shattering the peace of their sleepy town.
It'll be a different noise rocking the port city this evening, with all 20,330 tickets snapped up
for tonight's "Orange Derby" against high-flying Albirex Niigata.

Gombak United v Albirex Niigata 1-1
Thai Premier League
PEA v TOT 0-2
SAF v Home United 0-2 (Rosman Sulaiman, Kengne Ludovick) 3,658
Well, well, hows about that then? Two goals either side of half time saw Home United delay SAF's
title hopes for another few weeks. Should we be surprised? In their last four games on the road
Sivaji's men have taken maximum points from DPMM, Tampines and now the Armed Forces and now they
sit just outside the top 4.
Referee Masayoshi Okada took centre stage at Kashima Stadium as he called a halt to the
top-of-table clash between Kashima Antlers and Kawasaki Frontale.
With Kawasaki leading 3-1, they were left furious when the match was abandoned after 73 minutes as
monsoonal rains swept across the ground.
Kenji Adachihara (Albirex Nigata - Bontang)
Takotoshi Uchida (Albirex Niigata - Persebaya)
Not confirmed of course until they pull on the shirt of their 'new' club!
Albirex Niigata v Young Lions 2-1 (Kenji Adachihara, Tetsuya Kishida; Obadin Aikhena) 1,615
A 3rd win in their last four games, all at home, has seen the Japanese side climb to after losing
their first three games of the season. They are now 5th but sit just four points clear of cellar
dwellers Sengkang Punggol.
9 - Aleksandar Duric (Singapore Armed Forces)
8 - Gabriel Obatola (Gombak United)
7 - John Wilkinson (Singapore Armed Forces)

4 - Tampines Rovers 11 4 6 1 14-9 18
Tonight sees DPMM travel to Clementi Stadium to take on Home United knowing that three points would
see them back on top of the SLeague.
So there I was at the grandly titled Jurong derby. The Albirex Niigata supporter's club section was
made up of women and children many wearing club colours. Just to their left was a smaller group of
three or four people who made the 'noise.' One guy with a drum, one guy brandishsing yellow or red
cards as the situation required.
Hello, I am a new poster on here and I will be discussing the J-League and Japanese football.
Here is this week's match of the day.
Gamba Osaka v. Albirex Niigata
Background: Finally after two weeks of no games the J-League can finally resume. Gamba should be a
little rusty after not playing for 2 whole weeks while Niigata's recent 1-2 defeat against
bottom-dwellers Oita Trinita in the Nabisco Cup should help keep them in match fitness.
This was an exciting week of matches with a few key upsets.
Kawasaki Frontale V. Oita Trinita (2-0)
26' Renatinho
61' Renatinho
Oita's terrible run continues with 11 loses in a row in league. Renatinho scored a brace for
Kawasaki. One from a nice run combined with a good through pass from Yabu and the second was a
header from a Yokoyama cross.
Albirex Niigata V. Nagoya Grampus
Background: This is a really important fixture in terms of the future of these teams. Niigata are
flying high and currently occupy second place while Grampus and performing below expectations at
9th. If Niigata win then they will look comfortable to stay where they are, but if Nagoya win then
they will probably use this as a boost to push up the table.
Sunday August 30
Kashiwa Reysol 0 Kyoto Sanga 0
Kawasaki Frontale 1 Shimizu S-Pulse 1
Montedio Yamagata 1 Sanfrecce Hiroshima 2
Saturday August 29
FC Tokyo 2 Oita Trinita 0
Jubilo Iwata 1 Gamba Osaka 3
Nagoya Grampus 1 Albirex Niigata 0
Omiya Ardija 3 Kashima Antlers 1
Vissel Kobe 3 Urawa Reds 2
Yokohama F Marinos 1 JEF United Chiba 1
Kashima Antlers remain top of the J-League followed by Kawasaki Frontale, Sanfrecce Hiroshima and
Shimizu S-Pulse.
