First there was Kenji Adichihara. After an impressive season with Albirex Niigata in 2009 he was snapped up by Indonesia Super League side Bontang where he had a couple of prolific seasons averaging just over a goal every two games.

It was no surprise when he was finally picked up by one of the bigger clubs when Persiba Balikpapan signed him for the last season and the goals kept a coming.

Just hours after I'd bigged up Tampines Rovers chances of securing back to back SLeague titles the Stags only go and lose 4-3!

It sounds like a right ding dong affair at Clementi Stadium with Tampines taking the lead, getting a man sent off and falling to a goal with eight minutes left.

Sead Hazibulic gave the champions the lead on 8 minutes with his eighth of the season before Yasuhiro equalised on the half hour mark.

Former champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and Gamba Osaka both registered timely first wins of the AFC Champions League this week as the Group Stage of the 2012 edition reached the halfway point with Al Jazira and Al Ittihad maintaining the only 100% records.

Last year's beaten finalists Jeonbuk ended Buriram United's perfect record in Group H as first half goals from Lee Dong-gook and substitute Seo Sang-min ensured the K-League champions bounced back from beginning the new continental campaign with back-to-back 5-1 defeats.

Here is this week's match of the day.

Gamba Osaka v. Albirex Niigata

Background: Finally after two weeks of no games the J-League can finally resume. Gamba should be a little rusty after not playing for 2 whole weeks while Niigata's recent 1-2 defeat against bottom-dwellers Oita Trinita in the Nabisco Cup should help keep them in match fitness.

Today sees the destiny of the SLeague decided with three teams going into tonight's games thinking they can still clinch the title after four years of SAFFC domination.
Etoile will be undoubted favourites. They have a one point lead over second place Tampines and a three point lead over third place Home United.

Last season the Warriors cheer leaders used to sing 'Who's the best team in the SLeague' and the response was a resounding WARRIORS!

Now though they are struggling to retain their title won so impressively last time out and last night surprisingly got beat by Albirex Niigata 2-1.

SAF stay second but should Super Reds win tonight they could slide down to third though admittedly just a point off the pace.

SAFFC Trounced By White Swans

Jakarta Casual at related • 0 views
2010 was a rare barren season for SLeague side SAFFC. They won nothing. OK, maybe the won the toss once or twice but that was about it.
Coach Richard Bok made some changes and went into 2011 hoping for better luck but if anything last season's inconsistencies have not gone away.
A big investment at the back has seen the experienced Daniel Bennett joined by the consistent Bah Mamadou and the younger Daniel Hammond.

Albirex Niigata v Gombak United

Billed as the Jurong derby this game was a right old cracker. Fair Play to Albirex who have a small stall selling club souvenirs even though 25 SGD for a scarf is, in classic English understatement, a bit steep. The equivelant would be going to Arsenal, paying 45 quid for a match ticket then paying 180 for a scarf.
