This decision handed down by FIFA in Zurich today on Argentine coach Diego Maradona is the reason
why people in South America and in Argentine football fear Julio Grondona. He is a picture perfect
clone of an old Vito Corleone.
How much influence Grondona? How about the little letter he wrote Blatter.

No shock after all as Argentina made it to the Finals after downing Uruguay 1-0 in Montivideo
thanks to an 84th minute goal from Mario Balotti. Emotional scenes followed the final whistle as
Diego Maradona and old Carlos Bilardo hugged each other in ecstatic relief. The albiceleste's task
had been made easier by Chile eliminating Ecuador, ensuring at least a play-off spot, Uruguay's

Argentina have two crunch matches coming up this week that will go a long way to deciding
whether the albiceleste will make it to South Africa in 2010. Is it possible that Lionel
Messi and coach Diego Maradona will not be there? Or like Brazil in 2002 will they finally come
good and then go all the way and win the tournament?

Diego Maradona has a penchant for showing the world what happens when infinite hubris and infinite
ineptitude meet personal benefit.
According to Argentine sports daily Olé Maradona is flying to Europe to face the players that he
once had as indisputable in his previous callups and tell them that they will not be a part of the
national team in the upcoming friendly against Ghana on September 30th and in the final two matches
in World Cup qualifying play against Peru and Uruguay.

Now is not a particularly good time to be an Argentinian. Not only have their most loathed
opposition Brazil and England already qualified for the finals of the 2010 World Cup, but there is
a serious likelihood that the Albiceleste themselves might not even qualify for next year's
tournament in South Africa, and coach Diego Maradona is receiving hitherto criticism in his home
country.

The September 5th encounter between the Albiceleste and Seleccao fast approaches.
If there are any indications who feels most pressure, do not look to Dunga. The Seleccao are a
team where the sum of the parts equals the whole. A physical and intimidating defense, a potent
offense, and a creative midfield combining to form a well oiled machine that is firing on all
cylinders.

The faultlines between Julio Grondona and Diego Maradona could deepen if these two cult of
personalities square off on the potential inclusion of Juan Roman Riquelme to the national
