Italy coach Marcello Lippi has confirmed the 30 players he intends to select his final 23-man World Cup squad from after naming his provisional squad for this summer's tournament in South Africa.

Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni (currently on loan at Roma) has been omitted from the preliminary squad, after the 32-year-old's poor showing in the Azzuri's last major tournament (Toni failed to hit the net once at Euro 2008).

American born striker Guiseppe Rossi and AC Milan striker Marco Borriello will not be representing Italy at the World Cup this summer in South Africa. As an American I obviously feel no sadness in seeing Rossi, who refused to play for us and played very well against us at the Confederations Cup, left out of the Italian set up.

We've been over the hype victims, darkhorses and well as the disappointments, but now is the time when I tell you who I think can win the 2010 World Cup. I started this post last week with five teams that I really thought could win it. Now, after Robben's injury, I think it may be down to just four. Let's start with the defending champions Italy.

The midfielder who started his footballing career at Belgrano de Cordoba will be the ‘Viola's' new player, after that team closed a deal with FC Porto, Bolatti's current club.

There were 19 goals scored this week in Serie A, with two games finishing 0-0 (Siena-Napoli and Inter-Samp). Antonio Di Natale didn't score, and neither did Diego Milito, so Di Natale is still at the top of the scoring chart with 17 goals and Milito following with 14. Giampaolo Pazzini remains at 12 while Alessandro Matri scored and improves to 11 goals, his highest tally in his career so far.

The Decade in Review finally arrives to the 2005/2006 season. A season filled with such controversy (Calciopoli), but ended with such joy (World Cup 2006). This is the season that would change Italian football forever. Juventus in particular would never be the same (and they still aren't).

What a weekend in Serie A. There were 39 goals scored this weekend, a season high, with the lowest scoring game being Milan's 1-0 victory over Chievo. There were high scorelines all around (Genoa-Cagliari 5-3, Juventus-Siena 3-3, Livorno-Roma 3-3, Udinese-Palermo 3-2 just to name some), and it was really fun to watch.

There were 32 goals scored this weekend, a nice surprise after a few weeks of low scoring. There were no 0-0 matches, and only 2 draws (Fiorentina-Inter and Milan-Catania) both finishing 2-2. Only 3 games featured shutouts (Sampdoria-Genoa, Juventus-Cagliari, Livorno-Udinese). Antonio Di Natale scored again, improving to 23 goals on the season.

Roma and Inter are neck a neck in te final stages of the Serie A season.
The neroazzurri provisionally went top when they defeated Juventus 2-0. The highlight of the match was one of the most incredible goals of the season.
Inter are poised to face Barcelona on Tuesday in the Champions League semis and they will have the extra day's rest as well as the advantage of seeing their opponents making a 500-mile bus ride to the European fashion capital because of the volcanic ash wreaking havoc.

There were a total of 31 goals scored this weekend in Serie A, with the highest scoring game being Parma-Genoa, which finished 3-2 in favor of the Rossoblu. Interesting note: at half-time on Sunday, every game was 1-0. Antonio Di Natale scored his 24th goal of the season vs. Bologna, leaving him top of the scoring chart, 5 in front of second place Diego Milito who is on 19.

Giampaolo Pazzini scored a double against Roma to lift Sampdoria to a precious 2-1 win and more significantly the Azzurri hopeful handed the title advantage to Inter while confirming his club's European credentials ahead of Palermo and Juventus.

With Inter now in the lead, the only match which could see them potentially drop points will be away against Lazio who can secure their status in Serie A by winning their match with the Nerazzurri.

The two main exclusions that should be noted are Giuseppe Rossi and Marco Borriello, it seems like Quagliarella beat them in the race to be the fifth striker.
