A selection of talent from Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United, Chelsea, Everton,

A player who only seems to get his chance when someone is out injured or badly off form.
Nando and Riera enjoy a Lady and The Tramp moment Driven to distraction by watching his team-mates
play out 50 minutes of goalless football against Rapid Vienna, Fernando Torres decides to create
his own entertainment by shovelling as much of Albert Riera's packed lunch into his mouth has
possible. Meanwhile the winger scavenges around Torres' slobbery [.

The above group of eleven Americans just delivered one of the best team performances in U.S.
Soccer history, defeating seemingly unbeatable Spain, 2-0, on Wednesday.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly set for a summer clear-out, with 11 players expected
to leave Anfield.
The News of the World claims that the Spaniard is ready to sell a whole host of players including
Ryan Babel, Albert Riera and Xabi Alonso, in order to raise funds.
The tabloid claims that Benitez needs the finances in order to finally sign Gareth Barry from Aston
Villa and to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United in the transfer market.
The 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup is only a week away and all 8 teams have namer their rosters
for the tournament. Headlining the field is reigning Euro 2008 Champions Spain as well as 2006
World Cup winners Italy, and perennial powerhouses Brazil. The other teams in the field are the
United States, hosts South Africa, New Zealand, Iraq, and Egypt.
It was a comfortable 5-0 victory for Liverpool over Singapore. The talking point will undoubtedly
be Xabi Alonso's second half appearance as a substitute, his first preseason appearance for
Liverpool. Did the non soccer factors swayed him from a £30 million move to Real Madrid? (The

Football: Torres on target as Liverpool crush Singapore
Liverpool arrived at Singapore in the second and last leg of their Asian Tour. With the boost of
news that talismanic captain, Steven Gerrard was cleared of his bar brawl, Liverpool turned on the
style against a sorry Singapore team.
Prior to the match, Singapore striker, Mohd Noh Alam Shah expressed to reporters that anything
could happen against Liverpool.
Cesc Fabregas looks set to miss Spain's Confederations Cup clash with Iraq after Xabi Alonso
injured him for the second time this season.
Alonso was the man who sidelined Fabregas for four months after the two Spaniards entered into a
50-50 challenge during the 1-1 Emirates Stadium draw earlier this season.
Arch rivals do battle over La Liga star!
Valencia's Spanish international David Silva is apparently at the centre of Manchester
United's next transfer bid.
Reports in the Manchester Evening News claim the midfielder, who has been a long-term target for
Sir Alex Ferguson, is set to be subject to a bid from United.
Liverpool were hammered in their own back-yard in the Champions
League tonight as Chelsea took a huge step on the road to a possible Rome final.
Chelsea produced a performance of great quality and strength to leave Liverpool's dreams in tatters
after this quarter-final first leg.
If Liverpool are to improve on their runners-up spot in the Premier League, they will need to sign
at least one player of proven quality this summer.
Valencia's David Silva could be a player that makes a big difference for The Reds, if they were to
splash out on the 23-year-old.
The Spain international is able to play anywhere in attack, which means that Rafa Benitez could
slot him into either the wide right, wide left, or the second striker position.
In January 2001, Gerrard Houllier signed one of Europe's most renowned and exciting creative
players. Liverpool fans everywhere rejoiced at the prospect of having such a rare talent in the
team, the ideal player to complement Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler. Joy quickly turned to
frustration though as Houllier criminally underused the player and inexplicably wasted his
considerable talent.
Mark Hughes wants Anfield midfielder.

If there is one criticism of late that Rafa would struggle to argue against it would be his use
of Israeli international Yossi Benayoun. For the best part of the last two seasons the former West
Ham man has battled manfully to prove his worth to Liverpool boss and towards the tail end of last
season it looked like he had convinced Benitez of his importance but again this season Yossi has
found himself on the bench for reasons that have confounded just about every supporter, most
notably when he was named a sub for the crunch match at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool v Arsenal: win or kiss Champions League goodbye - originally posted on

Liverpool fans are on a high after winning the Carling Cup last weekend, with Kenny Dalglish and
Steven Gerrard heralding the triumph as the start of a new era of success for the club. Whether
this season is a success or not may well depend on the outcome of this Saturday's fixture against
Arsenal however.

Over the last year, Rafael Benitez has wasted a huge chunk of the club's money on transfers that,
for whatever reason, just didn't work out. With news that Liverpool have reportedly accepted a
£4.3m bid from Napoli for left-back Andrea Dossena, this money-wasting trend seems set to
continue.
I think we can all agree that last summer was an utter disaster for Liverpool when it came to
transfers.
Will last nights performance result in the American owners giving Rafa some cold hard
cash...probably not!
Rafa Benitez has been alerted to the possibility of signing Arjen Robben from Real
Madrid but faces a battle with Manchester United.
The Spanish tactician has been a long time admirer of the winger and the defeat to Aston Villa
on Monday night has highlighted the desperate need to add some width to the side.
Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera are in contention for a surprise return to the Liverpool squad for
Saturday's clash with Manchester City after some controversial therapy.
They have been treated by a Serbian physiotherapist credited with accelerating recovery from injury
with the use of placenta cells.
Any players that Rafael Benitez targets this summer may be likelier to join Liverpool as the
Spaniard's own future, together with those of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, have been secured
earlier in the year, according to club legend Kenny Dalglish.
The Reds have been linked with a plethora of Premier League stars, and Benitez has already conceded
that each penny paid toward his summer signings will have to be money well spent.
Quick break from WCQ for a second - Spain has released its squad for the Confederations Cup later
this month. It's pretty loaded. Vicente del Bosque's side features 13 players that featured in last
year's friendly against the United States including captain Iker Casillas, dyanmic Barcelona duo
Xavi and Andres Iniesta, and the ever-dangerous Fernando Torres up top.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is set to face another summer without some of his top players with
Spain and Brazil set to take part in the Confederations Cup in June.
The Spanish national side has confirmed that Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, Alvaro Arbeloa, Albert
Riera and Pepe Reina will all join up with Vicente del Bosque ahead of the South Africa based
tournament.
Rafael Benítez's transfer budget will not be reduced as a result of the alarming losses suffered
by Liverpool's parent company, Kop Football (Holdings) Limited, though its limitations were exposed
again when his main target, David Silva, opened talks on a proposed move to Real Madrid.
Kop's £42.
- Mandatory monthly Benayoun posting. Yossi re-ups with Liverpool until 2013. Israeli press
reports say he is now 3rd highest paid player at Anfield. Big ups. If he can start 30 EPL games
this season - he will be a bargain fantasy premier league midfielder acquisition in the 7.5m - 8.5m
range.
Didn't see this coming!
Barcelona director of football Txiki Begiristain has said that the Blaugrana might not
make any further signings this summer, but 27-year-old Liverpool winger Albert Riera is now a
target, according to Sport.
Barca coach Pep Guardiola has said that he wants to make further additions to his squad, but it
appears that Begiristain will make the final call.
Sotirios Kyrgiakos mjohnson, akes his League debut for Liverpool this afternoon at the Reebok
stadium against Bolton Wanderers.
Signed from AEK Athens for £1.5 million, the defensive hard man will be looking to shore up a
Liverpool defence which has leaked too many goals early on in the season.
With Liverpool's well documented financial woes causing major problems, has every avenue of revenue
generation been explored and implemented by the club? David Clarke doesn't think so.
It could just be my age, but I know that throughout my time as a football fan, I have always
dreamed of playing for Liverpool and pulling on one of the club's prestigious shirts, like the
number ‘7', ‘9' or'10'.
Fernando Torres & Robbie Keane could have been the deadliest double act since Starsky & Hutch,
had Rafa Benitez not thought otherwise. As it happens they had to settle last week for separate
feats, separate plaudits, and separate points hauls.
Torres could realistically have expected to be the week's king in the Fantasy League with a
splendid hat-trick against Phil Brown's tame Tigers, but his eschewed strike-partner grabbed the
honour, four goals against Burnley meant plenty of spilt claret for Owen Coyle, as the Fantasy
Premier League season took another set of twists and turns.
Rafa interested in exciting winger.
Are Liverpool preparing to splash the readies on Aston Villa's Ashley
Young?
It couldn't be sure, irritable readers, but the Mill then thought it might have seen a bloke
with what looked like an Aston Villa crest on a bruise-coloured jacket passing a letter containing
Enochian script that could have given the impression Martin O'Neill and Rafael Benítez are on the
verge of doing business pertaining to Ashley Young.
This could be nothing serious, but the definition of blogging is making something out of nothing,
so Fernando Torres' groin injury does seem to offer a bit of a silver lining for Liverpool attacker
Dirk Kuyt - from a fantasy footie perspective.
Torres always seems to suffer some sort of niggling injury or another every season he's been at
Liverpool - and when he does, it's usually the Dutchman Kuyt who steps in to fill the striker's
role.
Four goals from Andrey Arshavin put a huge dent in Liverpool's Premier League title hopes as
Arsenal drew 4-4 at Anfield.
The hosts went ahead of Manchester United on goal difference having come from behind three times,
starting with Arshavin's first in the 36th minute.
Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun scored soon after the interval but three further goals from the
Russian piled the pressure back on Rafael Benitez's side and even a second from Torres and an
injury-time equaliser from Benayoun were not enough to force victory.
Stewart Downing will hold out for a £12million summer move to Liverpool before deciding his
future.
Middlesbrough winger Downing, 24, is back on Rafa Benitez's list of targets as the Kop boss was
turned down in his first bid to sign Valencia's David Silva.
Silva remains Benitez's first choice but he also needs to add more English blood to his squad.
Alan Shearer's Newcastle are staring relegation in the face after a 3-0 mauling against Liverpool
at Anfield.
And for the former England captain, in temporary charge of the Geordies, there was even the
humiliation of hearing the Kop chant: "You should have stayed on the telly" and "Alan Shearer,
football genius.
According to reports, Liverpool FC allegedly has only £1.5m to spend for the remainder of the
current transfer window. Predictably, Tom Hicks and George Gillett are being demonised over this
issue and Rafa Benitez is being painted as the blameless victim whose hands are tied due to lack of
funds. Poor Rafa, right?
Time to dig deep!
It has been reported that Real Madrid winger Arjen Robben is a Liverpool target and whether the
club can afford to put in a bid for the £18m Dutchman or not, they really need to think long and
hard about passing up on such an opportunity.
The former Chelsea man is still very capable of cutting it in the Premier League and the 25 year
old would surely jump at the chance of a return to the country he left two years ago.
Time to get the ball rolling!
Bolton defender Jlloyd Samuel could make his first league start of the season, having
been preferred to Paul Robinson for Tuesday's League Cup win.
Andy O'Brien has recovered from a groin strain and is also in contention.
Greek defender Sotiros Kyrgiakos is on standby to make his Liverpool debut as centre back Martin
Skrtel is still troubled by a jaw injury.
After two defeats in three league games, it looks like Rafa Benitez could be about to make an
obvious tactical change to the team for today's vital, must-win game at Bolton.
In his press conference yesterday, Benitez stated:
"We have to change something if it's necessary... moving Steven back into central midfield is an
option, we have done that in a few games.
It has emerged that Albert Riera had a bust-up with Rafa Benitez over being left on the bench for
the first three games of the season. Was Riera right to feel aggrieved?
Talking to Spanish publication AS, Riera revealed:
"I didn't play the first game because I started training late after the Confederations Cup, like
[Pepe] Reina and [Fernando] Torres.
A player who gives 100% and could represent the difference between success and failure at
Anfield.
Someone remarked to me, midway through last term, whilst I saw in my Anfield seat that Yossi
Benayoun is a player that just about everyone values, except for Rafa Benitez. Now whilst the
statement was a little over the top it did have some resonance in reality and hopefully now our
boss realises just how important the Israeli utility man can be for the club.
Albert Riera has become the latest victim of Rafa Benitez's regrettable habit of dropping players
after they score goals. How long is this damaging trend going to continue?
After being stuck on the bench for most of the season, Riera started the 6-1 thrashing of Hull and
had a fantastic game.
