We need a proper winger! came the constant refrain. Kuyt may have been a lock on the
right for years, and before him Steven Gerrard may have had his best statistical season cutting in
from the flank, but neither was a proper winger. Meanwhile on the left, be it Babel or Benayoun or
Garcia, it seemed a role largely filled by default, a place to dump an extra creative player who
couldn't quite manage to get a game anywhere else.

The Argentine enjoyed a rich vein of form in the latter stages of 2010-11 including hat-tricks in
consecutive games but has already set his sights on surpassing those exploits this time around.
Rafa Benitez undoubtedly signed some brilliant players during his time at Anfield, and the club is
still benefiting from some of the players he signed. However, it's also true to say that Benitez
wasted a lots of money on players who just weren't good enough for Liverpool. It's taken a long
time to rid the club of these highly paid players, but with the departure of Philipp Degen today,
the club is no longer lumbered with Benitez's deadwood.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish insists it will be "disrespectful'' to his current squad not to
make top-quality signings in the summer but also did not rule out a return for some familiar
faces.
Dalglish accepts there will be some movement in and out but he will not settle for anything less
than the best in terms of new arrivals.
