The Last Soccer Match At Giants Stadium Ends On A Good Feeling

Major League Soccer Talk 25 October @ 12:24 AM EST

On a cold and rainy night at the swamps of the Meadowlands, this was the final performance on the soccer side at Giants Stadium. Yes the season has been lost since the middle of June, but that doesn't mean the club can't try to play for pride and knock off Toronto FC from the playoffs.

Red Bulls Thrash TFC 5-0 To Close Out Giants Stadium

The Offside - NY Red Bulls 24 October @ 09:34 PM EST

When you looked up at the sky, and the puddles all over the floor, there was a certain irony in it all; as if even the God's were crying over the 2009 season. And what weather could be more fitting for a Stadium that caused nothing but tears for the past 14 years? Surely, with a hungry and desperate TFC at the gates, tonight would end like so many others; a tearful mess of a loss.

It is one hell of a night for a stadium finale.

The New York Red Bulls are playing host to Toronto FC tonight in the regular season finale for both and the final soccer game at Giants Stadium. New York fans might feel some sense of nostalgia as this long-time home for soccer closes, but TFC fans only care about one thing.

A Winning Streak? Believe It! : RBNY 1 - Columbus 0

The Offside - NY Red Bulls 31 August @ 07:57 AM EST

Like an episode of Law and Order, Richie Williams is building a case for head coach, 2010. And if he keeps this up, he won't have to press too much to get it done.

In a scrappy back and forth effort, the Red Bulls downed defending champions Columbus 1-0 on an absolutely beautiful 70 yard run by Dane Richards (yes, that Dane Richards!

Simplicity Rules The Day In Red Bulls Win

The Offside - NY Red Bulls 24 August @ 09:22 AM EST

Imagine this:

You are a player for Juan Carlos Osorio, and it is the beginning of the 2009 campaign. After a good showing in the offseason camps, you are looking forward to some playing time for the rest of the season. As a matter of fact, you have fallen in line with the Osorio mantra; "practice hard, and you will get playing time.

Major League Soccer Talk 24 August @ 02:25 AM EST

After more than ten seasons of standing thru the test of time a single record held by a man who helped start MLS in the right direction was finally taken away. Juan Pablo Angel who was brought here from Aston Villa two years ago was on a goal scoring rampage and the only thing stopping him was injury or concussions, yet this past Sunday Afternoon at Giants Stadium against FC Dallas he started the scoring and finished it with class and grace.

Eskandarian's dream volley

Soccer By Ives 17 July @ 11:16 AM EST

When Chivas USA was shopping around Alecko Eskandarian last month there were plenty of teams wary of taking a chance on an injury-prone player earning a six-figure salary. The Los Angeles Galaxy didn't worry so much, choosing instead to take a chance on a proven MLS goal-scorer.

Eskandarian has repaid that faith pretty quickly, scoring two goals in three matches since joining the Galaxy.

Red Bulls vs. Galaxy (Matchnight Commentary)

Soccer By Ives 16 July @ 06:59 PM EST

Â

The New York Red Bulls take on David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy tonight at Giants Stadium. The English superstar is set to play his first game for the Galaxy this season, which might explain the larger than usual crowd tonight (though not the usual crowd for a Beckham game).

The Red Bulls will be looking to end their own miserable winless streak and has the strongest lineup they've fielded in months.

Red Bulls 2009: The Most Talented-Worst Team Ever

The Offside - NY Red Bulls 09 July @ 10:52 AM EST

So many comparisons have been made with the 2009 Red Bulls and the infamous 1999 MetoStars squad who achieved the height of league futility with a record of 7 wins and 25 losses. Four of those losses came in extra time, leaving only 3 legit outright wins for the team to hang its hat on. Ya, I know.

The Houston Dynamo have enjoyed a good amount of success and respect since their inception to the league. But there has been this one itch that they haven't figured out how to scratch yet. That itch? Your New York Red Bulls.

The first encounter between these two clubs was a chippy battle in Houston, featuring a midair head clash between Danny Cepero and Kei Kamara, resulting in a concussion for the former.
