Wolves v Spurs has thrown up its fair share of classic encounters over the years and for
Tottenham, Molineux has generally been a difficult place to travel to. There's often plenty of
goals too as last year's 3-3 draw underlines.
When you think of memorable games from the past, two will always come to mind – (for Spurs
fans anyway).
Molineux, Wolverhampton. Judging by the brightness of the sunshine and the bareness of the
goalmouth, it's springtime. The camera lingers on the main stand as it fills up with a lone
goalkeeper (Mike Stowell, perhaps?) warming up in front of the camera. Finally, a shower of
ticker-tape and the team takes the pitch.
Nearly 39 years ago, Spurs squared up to AC Milan in the semi final of the UEFA Cup. Tottenham
had largely breezed through the 1971/72 tournament, starting with a demolition of Keflavik and
taking out Nantes, Rapid Bucarest and UT Arad along the way.
Milan were likely to prove a tougher test if Spurs were to progress and contest the first ever
UEFA Cup final.
