Well that was much more fun than the last few days, wasn't it?
We secured our qualification for the group stages of the Champions League for the 11th
successive season with a 4-0 win over FC Twente (goals here via 101 Great Goals). The boss mixed
the team up a bit. Bendtner came in for Adebayor, Fabregas replaced Eboue and Djourou came in at
the back (heh) in place of Kolo.
Rafa Benitez wasted no time in acknowledging the importance of his Argentine midfielder Javier
Mascherano at the weekend after a superb performance against arch-rivals Manchester United.
However, he was not alone in praise as the New Football Pools Pundits and Liverpool legends John
Barnes and Alan Hansen joined in with the plaudits.
Having watched most of Euro 2008 spread out between the BBC and ITV I have come to the conclusion
that both channels need a major shake up in the ways they cover sport. Both sides irritate people
with different aspects of their coverage, for example they both need some new pundits and
co-commentators in because [.
THE start of the new football season is under threat after Premier League clubs revealed more than
half of their squads had gone down with scurvy. The ancient skin disease is common among 16th
century sailors and people who eat nothing but Morrison's ready meals. Doctors fear a combination
of watching Alan Hansen smugly stuffing his [.
Inspired by comments on the ‘Ramos Revolution' blog, I decided it was fitting to have a blog
on those big mouths, who don't actually manage or play and don't live or die by what results happen
on the pitch.

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen has warned Rafael Benitez that signing wide players is more important
than bringing Gareth Barry or Robbie Keane to Anfield.
Benitez has made no secret of his attempts to sign midfielder Barry and striker Keane - but neither
would add much of the width Hansen feels Liverpool need if they are to challenge Manchester United
or Chelsea for the Barclays Premier League title.
Talk about putting your foot in your mouth! But then again Mr Hansen is good at that.
At half-time, "expert" BBC pundit Alan Hansen declared that Theo Walcott had no
composure.
I sure Theo's goal may help to change your mind Mr Hansen!
It was very Thierry Henry, which translates "Composure at its very best"
Keep it Goonerish.
All eyes seem to be on Spain for tomorrow's Euro 2008 final.
Neutral fans are mostly dreaming of a beautiful team who play the Beautiful Game slaying a 34-year
old jinx in a red and yellow climax. But if big-match history counts for anything, the winners'
enclosure will be black and white instead.
There's been a lot of hot-air and hysteria since Jamie Carragher's honest admission that he
preferred winning with Liverpool above winning with England.
You'd think he'd said he deliberately thought about scoring an own goal for Germany against the
national side the way some people have reacted.
BBC's Director of Sport Roger Mosey wrote an eye-opening article on the BBC Sport blog this
morning. In it, he describes how the ratings for BBC's Match of The Day (their highlights show,
which features Gary Lineker, Alan Hansen and others) has risen this season and that the ratings for
MOTD were much higher [.
He's a legend of the club and when he speaks usually a lot of people listen. And now Match of the
Day pundit Alan Hansen has said publicly what most fans have been saying for a long time, Liverpool

Jamie Carragher believes the task of winning the league and claiming that elusive 'number 19' has
never been tougher.
The club's vice-captain has won every domestic and European honour during 11 years in Liverpool's
first team – except the Premier League.
It's a pill which becomes harder to swallow with each passing year, though Carra recently found
comfort in the words of an Anfield icon who helped bring eight championship trophies home to
Merseyside.
The season is only one week old but Jamie Carragher is already showing signs of the loser mentality
that plagued Anfield last season.
Carra was up and down like a yo-yo last season when it came to his public comments about the club
One week he'd be high as a kite proclaiming how Liverpool's players were the greatest in the world.
While Alan Hansen was wrong to claim "you'll never win anything with kids", I think it's
fair to say that a team certainly won't be radically enhanced by Danny Guthrie and Jonas Gutierrez.
Yes yes, Newcastle fans, I realise your exciteable manager and hoardes of directors are probably
working round .
Alan Hansen fears Rafa Benitez will fail to conquer Premier League without signing quality wide
players. The Reds look less likely to sign Gareth Barry, but have snapped up young Frenchman
