"Heeeere's Alan!"
IN THE TUNNEL:Could a rag-tag Toronto FC line-up shock LA Galaxy in the same way that Panama had just shocked USA
at the Gold Cup? Or, would they be as impotent as Canada was against 10-man Guadeloupe? Seriously,
it's not even a country! 1st versus nearly worst in Hollywood.

And here I thought Brettschneider might be in with a chance for Goal of the Week...
Not enough to dislodge the volley brigade, but still a damn fine goal.
First of all, my deepest apologies for the headline. I don't usually do the pun thing, and now
you see why.
TFC had its first home game of the season hosting Portland Timbers, the second expansion team of
MLS in 2011. Toronto had a dire performance against Vancouver the week before.
Alan Gordon was stellar for Toronto.Even with the Gold Cup in full swing, MLS rolls on. The teams
are depleted but that hasn't stopped some from stepping up. Players like Steven Lenhart are on fire
and staple stars like Henry and Beckham remain impressive. Taking a look back at MLS's most
exciting matches from the weekend, here's your hope for soccer after the USMNT's failure against
Panama.
The past week in MLS was an outstanding one for amazing goals, and also a stellar week for
standout forwards.
There were so many of them, in fact, that we had to find a way to squeeze the four best onto
this week's SBI MLS Best XI.
How could you really choose from Eric Hassli and his stunning goals, to Alan Gordon's clutch
brace, to Steven Lenhart hat-trick-plus-assist masterpiece, to Thierry Henry carrying an
understrength and battered New York Red Bulls team to victory?
The chore aspect. The sun was shining this afternoon. The weather was pleasant, everything we desire in a June day. I
was wishing that this was a Saturday without Toronto FC. A night at home, chips, dips and beverages
on the deck. The setting sun and then the stars for a canopy. This last Saturday before summer
solstice seemed a night for kicking back and stretching out.

There was no separating the San Jose Earthquakes and the traveling Portland Timbers Saturday
night as the two sides slugged out a 1-1 draw at Buck Shaw Stadium. Having initially fallen
behind to a Timbers goal, the hosts clawed their way back into the game to salvage a result.
The emergence of Sanna Nyassi as a speedy striker has a been a big part of Colorado's 3-0-1
record since losing Conor Casey for the season to a ruptured Achilles tendon.
What should have felled a team that was struggling to score instead led to a four goal outburst
from Nyassi and 10 points from four games.

Charlie Davies converted a disputed 90th-minute penalty kick as D.C. United tied the Los Angeles
Galaxy 1-1.
The goal, Davies' fourth of the year and third on a penalty, came 78 minutes after Mike Magee
put the Galaxy ahead on a header off David Beckham's corner kick.

There's nothing that Toronto FC forward Alan Gordon loves more than scoring against his former
clubs.
Gordon scored two goals in the second half including a decisive game-tying goal in the 94th
minute that gave Toronto FC just their second point away from the friendly confines of BMO
Field.
A 94th minute Alan Gordon goal ensured Toronto shared the points with the
Galaxy in a 2-2 draw at the Home Depot last night.
I will admit it freely, I was getting tired of hearing about how the injury to Alan Gordon was
affecting TFC. It felt like a feeble excuse. I thought he had been a very good player for Toronto,
but rather than lament his loss we should be expecting others to raise their game. He was a smart
acquisition, but he was not the answer to TFC's scoring woes.
My post game video blog celebrating the two goal return of Toronto FC striker Alan Gordon and the
precious away point salvaged in injury time in Los Angeles.

Last week, Steven Lenhart put in a performance good enough to win SBI MLS Player of the Week,
but fell short. This week, Lenhart removed all doubt about deserving this week's honors as the best
player in MLS this weekend.
Lenhart delivered a hat-trick to lead the San Jose Earthquakes to a 4-2 thrashing of D.
San Jose Earthquakes forward Steven Lenhart was voted MLS Player of the Week by the North
American Soccer Reporters for Week 13. Lenhart recorded the first hat trick of his MLS career and
tallied an assist in San Jose's 4-2 win over D.C. United.
Moments after D.C. United's first goal, Lenhart evened the game by beating an offside trap.

OK, so I managed to pull it off this weekend and watch all the soccer that I wanted. I am
blessed with the fact that my wife Jenn, is almost as soccer crazy as I am.
We hung out together and watched soccer on tv, she was led on the couch (9 months pregnant)
while our 2 year old son ran around the living room.

There were a number of spectacular goals in MLS Week 13, and on any given week, the efforts by
Brek Shea, Alan Gordon and Osvaldo Alonso, among others, might be in the running for Goal of the
Week.
This past week, though, two strikes stood out above all others.
NEW ENGLAND (16th) VS. TORONTO (15th) GILLETTE STADIUM - WEDNESDAY 8PM ETTV: TSN THE KICKABOUT:- Can TFC carry over some offensive consistency from the LA match against an equally struggling
opponent in Revolution?
The seventh game of the Stanley Cup finals isn't the only Massachusetts-Canada battle Wednedsay
night.
The New England Revolution welcomes Toronto FC to Gillette Stadium (8 p.m., MLS Direct
Kick/MatchDay Live) for the first of two home matches in MLS Week 14 with hopes of snapping a
four-game losing streak.
They must be so bummed he missed the Revs' match
IN THE TUNNEL:
With Boston area fans geared up to watch their Bruins in the Stanley Cup Final, this may be one of
the lowest attended MLS matches of the season. Although... how will you tell? Gillette Stadium
usually looks that empty.
Toronto FC showed up in New England and played with some of the fire that was on display late
Saturday night in Los Angeles. Not enough fire to score against the Revolution, but I give them
credit for some ignition.
There seemed to be signs of cohesion from Toronto. Players seemed to know each other that much
more.
The New England Revolution managed to break their losing streak but were unable to find a
victory against Toronto FC tonight as the two sides battled to a scoreless draw. There were chances
on both sides but the game was truly characterized by haphazard play and poor decision-making in
the final third.
In this video blog episode I take a look back at the somewhat encouraging string of road draws TFC
has recently been on, culminating in Wednesday's tie versus the New England Revolution in front of
what was probably one of the smallest crowds in MLS history. I throw kudos towards youngster
Donnell Henry and to goalkeeping stalwart Stefan Frei and I speak to the significantly different
offensive look the Reds have with a real number nine like Alan Gordon in the lineup.
Who needs Halo when you can have Zaxxon?TORONTO (14th) VS. SEATTLE (5th) BMO FIELD - SATURDAY 7PM ETTV: GOLTV THE KICKABOUT:- Have TFC improved since they were drubbed 3-0 by Sounders at Qwest Field back in April?
It's tempting to think that today's match versus Toronto FC is one that the Seattle Sounders
should win. By most measures, Toronto is one of if not the worst teams in the league. They have the
worst goal differential at -10, have allowed the most goals, have the second worst shot
differential per 90, and their 5th-worst point total is inflated by the fact that they're tied for
the second-most games played this season (along with the Sounders).
Aaron Winter has struggled to get Toronto FC to play the style of game that he wants. He has
changed what they are tactically to a 4-2-1-3 with Alan Gordon at the Target. Whereas the season
started with DeRo being the expected offensive guide the Reds now get their dynamic play from
Maicon Santos and Joao Plata.
I couldn't watch the San Jose game until the last few minutes, so imagine my surprise when I
turned it on to see this. Mike Magee can't pick up the ball! That's a handball!! Well, not that
night.
Who would have thought that for a number of weeks keeper would be the most exciting position on
the field for the Galaxy?
Missing star: Manchester City's Carlos Tevez, arguably the club's biggest star - and box
office draw - won't play against the Galaxy later this month. The forward, who wants to exit the
club, is seen here training with Argentina at Copa America (AP Photo).

Sergio Aguero is already beginning to look good for his money.
Despite reportedly not being 100% fit, Aguero came in as a second-half substitute for Manchester
City and notched two goals and an assist in a 4-0 rout of Swansea.
Aguero replaced Nigel de Jong three minutes after the hosts were put 1-0 thanks to Edin Dzeko in
the 57th, and it took only eight minutes to mark his debut with a goal — a cool finish following
a low Micah Richards cross at the far post.

It was a case of "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue" for Chivas
USA as the club opened preseason training today in Carson under the new coaching staff of Robin
Fraser and Greg Vanney.
The old was Francisco "Panchito" Mendoza, a Chivas USA original who played more minutes for the
club than any other player before heading back to the mothership in 2009.
Chivas USA won 2-0 on goals from Alan Gordon and draft pick Victor Estupiñan over PDL team
Fresno Fuego today in a game played just outside Paso Robles.
Gordon scored in the 31st minute from a header off a cross supplied by his former Galaxy
teammate Tristan Bowen. Estupiñan's second similarly resulted from a header off a cross from
defender Carlos Borja in the 80th minute.

David Beckham's return to the United States will be put off for two more weeks after he had his
training stint with Tottenham extended.
Beckham was set to join the Los Angeles Galaxy for pre-season this week, but now with his
Tottenham stint extended, he will have even less time with his MLS team despite the act the MLS
season is just five weeks away.
