Three points behind co-group leaders Morelia and Alajuelense in CONCACAF Champions League play,
the Galaxy face a must-win game at 7 o'clock tonight at Home Depot Center against the Mexicans
(live on Fox Soccer and Telefutura).
Realistically, if the Galaxy don't win - a tie wouldn't help them much - their international
campaign is all but over, but they may have to play Morelia without three of their key players.
This weekend was truly Championship Weekend throughout Central America's football leagues. Four
champions were crowned on Saturday and Sunday, and the final series of another league championship
kicked off. Here is a roundup: BELIZE COSTA RICA Alajuelense completed a short tournament double
last night as they defeated San Carlos 1-0 in the second leg of the Verano final, thus winning the
finals series 2-0 on aggregate.
Now that Real Salt Lake's fantastic ride in the CONCACAF Champions League tournament has ended,
a new edition begins. From the headquarters inside the Trump Tower in New York City, the 2011-12
Qualifying Round and group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League was finally drawn.
As we already know the Los Angeles Galaxy won last year's Supporters Shield and the Colorado
Rapids are the defending MLS Cup Champions, so they are automatically entered the group stage,
while last year's MLS Cup runners-up along with the two time defending US Open Cup Champions
Seattle Sounders will enter in the goal aggregate qualifying round along with the Canadian MLS
representative (either Toronto FC or Vancouver Whitecaps).
CONCACAF Champions League groups were finally set after the second legs were completed this week.
There weren't too many surprises as all MLS and Mexico teams went through - although Olimpia of
Honduras made things interesting with Santos Laguna.
Each group looks difficult and each group has its challenges but perhaps the most challenging group
is.

The 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League groups are all set. The play-in round is over after last
night and we can now shift focus to what the five Major League Soccer sides need to do to advance
out of their respective groups.
For the most part we should hope to see at least one, if not two MLS sides advance out of the
group stage.

The 16 participants for the Super Group at the 32nd Dallas Cup were announced on Friday, and nine

round series between the Mexican Clausura runner-up (either Morelia or Pumas) and the Caribbean

Belgium reveals a lot of talent as well as some very familiar faces.
For the USA's first friendly against Costa Rica since 1995, interim head coach Ronald Gonzalez has
chosen four players from MLS, handing Portland Timbers defender Rodney Wallace his first call-up.
CARSON, Calif. - Though the Galaxy may have experienced a busy summer, one LA player who did not
was Chad Barrett.
The Galaxy striker played against Seattle on July 4 at the Home Depot Center but injuries
sidelined him for the rest of the month and nearly all of August.
But it only took Barrett about six minutes to show that he can be a valuable boost to the squad
down the stretch when he made his first appearance last Thursday and scored a goal in the Galaxy's
2-0 win over Alajuelense in a CONCACAF Champions League group match.

The Galaxy sit on top of their CONCACAF Champions League Group with six points after a pair of
wins against Alajuelense and Club Motagua at home.
The playoff race is heating up, and so too is the charge up the SBI MLS Power Rankings.
Philadelphia and Houston each came up with important victories to make up ground in the Eastern
Conference and climb further into the top 10. Even late-charging teams Toronto and Chicago, for
whom the postseason is a longshot, are getting their due, with each moving up as well.

CONCACAF Champions League match against Alajuelense on Wednesday, and his attendance has already
caused a stir in the local media.
The stakes are high when MLS teams take to the field in both league and CONCACAF Champions League
play Wednesday night.
D.C. United, Chivas USA, the New York Red Bulls and Portland Timbers are all fighting for spots
in the postseason and are all in need of results, while FC Dallas, the Los Angeles Galaxy and

Well into the playoff phase in Central America's domestic leagues, as two leagues approach the
finals and a new champion has been crowned in Panama. Here's a summary of what happened over the

Abby Wambach's penchant for coming up big in the FIFA Women's World Cup this past summer has
earned her more individual acclaim six months later.
Wambach was named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year Tuesday, becoming the first
soccer player -- male or female -- to win an individual year-end award from the AP.
