Talk about an interesting move for U.S. U-20 coach Thomas Rongen. Eight players based at pro
clubs in Mexico, plus one based in Brazil, Costa Rica and Portugal were called up to camp that
begins Monday in San Jose.
That is some diversity folks. Ten players from the college ranks were also called into camp
including some usual faces including two from the U-17 World Cups in Earl Edwards (who will be a
freshman at UCLA) and Zac MacMath (Maryland).
Bumped & updated through last night's Open Cup qualifier (SJ-RSL).
Which MLS teams have had the most success in penalty shootouts? Which players would you most want
to take a shot under pressure, and who do you want to stay far away from those situations? I've got
the answers.
For the long time MLS fans: This post doesn't include the hated MLS shootouts used from 1996-99 to
decide tied regular season and playoff games.

crecimiento extraordinario.
We're back in the United States now and getting settled in. It occurred to me that we haven't
published an Annual Ranking in quite some time. We have published all from 1960-1991, as well as
2007-2009, all of which can be accessed below or by clicking on the Annual Rankings link. That
brings us up to 1992.
All of the Central American leagues have decided their league champions, with the exception of
Belize. Here is a roundup: BELIZE The Belizean Premier League is back in action, but with fewer
teams than before. The San Pedro Sea Dogs folded, so the remainder of their league matches has been
given a 0-3 result by the league authorities.
The Verano tournament in Costa Rica is five weeks old, but it's clear that the big two sides of
Costa Rican football -- Alajuelense and Saprissa -- have returned to prominence. Saprissa, and
especially Alajuelense, have experienced declines in the last year and a half which saw clubs such
as Herediano, Liberia Mía, and Brujas win championships.

Santos 2 – 1 Herediano.

The domestic leagues in Central America are a few weeks old, so let's take a short trip around the
region and find out who has gotten off to a good start. BELIZE Not sure what's going on in Belize.
COSTA RICA Alajuelense have gotten off to a hot start after six matches of the Torneo Invierno, and
lead Group B on 16 points.

Alajuelense will appear in the Torneo Verano after defeating Cartaginés 3-0 for a 5-1 aggregate

through on best regular-season record.

throughout the country today, so there was no league action. The Invierno championship final
between Herediano and Alajuelense starts on 12 December with the return leg on the 19th.
