The Final Sunset of the Golden Years: OL Hoist the Cup de France in '08.
CdF Round of 64- Saturday, January 09, 2010
Stade de la Meinau, Strasbourg.
2:45 EST(20:45 CET, 19:45 GMT)
More celebration.
Well, just in case you don't know, France is experiencing what must be the beginning of the
second Ice Age since yesterday; I think they're have been reported sightings of wolly mammoths
even.
So here we are again and before we go on, an apology.
Some of you will have noticed that our regular Jeu Du Jour articles suddenly stopped in
mid-December for no apparent reason. In actual fact, there *was* a reason – namely that we had
less time available during the Christmas period, and most of that was taken up producing our daily
Advent Calendar posts.
This came as a shock to me, but Lyon vs. Bordeaux isn't scheduled to kick off until tomorrow
afternoon. Silly me. I thought the match had already gotten under way.
Drama aside (well, not really since Lyon tend to inspire drama wherever they go), France's two
most recent title winners will go head to head in what only looks like a league match.
I think it's time we talked about the coaching situation. I know many of you no longer have
confidence in Puel, and it looks like the players don't either. Many questioned why Puel was kept
on despite staying trophy-less for two seasons while a guy like Alain Perrin were forced to leave
after winning more trophies than any other OL manager.
Ligue 1 Week 7
Saturday, September 25, 2010
Stade Gerland, Lyon
21:00CET, 20:00GMT
Saturday will mark the 500th anniversary of the Lyon-St. Etienne derby, and unlike most years,
there's a whole lot more than bragging rights and ASSE trying to break a twenty-one match drought
at stake in this one.
St Etienne co-chairman Bernard Caiazzo has launched a bitter parting shot at former employee Damien
Comolli.
Comolli was previously in charge of transfer signings at the French club but quit to become
Liverpool's director of football strategy earlier this month.
The decision has been greeted with mixed response from Reds fans but Comolli is no stranger to the
English game, having also worked with Arsenal and Tottenham.
