Barcelona have just whupped Al Sadd 4-0 in the second Club World Cup semi-final in Yokohama
(Adriano, Adriano, Keita and Maxwell if you're interested we'll try and track down some highlights
later), but the Japanese jolly has been soured somewhat by a nasty injury to David Villa, who split
his tibia in twain five minutes before half-time.
DOHA, Qatar Mile Jedinak's first-half goal against Bahrain at Al Sadd Stadium was enough to send
Australia through to the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup. The Genclerbirligi midfielder scored his
second goal in as many games to ensure the Socceroos finish top of Group C and go through to the
last eight unbeaten following [.

Kashiwa Reysol and Al Sadd have booked their semi-final places in the FIFA Club World Cup
following hard fought victories over Monterrey CF and Esperance Tunis respectively.
Kashiwa, representing the host nation Japan as the 2011 J-League champions, needed a penalty
shoot-out to get past North and Central American champions Monterrey after the two teams had played
out a 1-1 draw.

The opening acts at the FIFA Club World Cup were pretty entertaining. Now Lionel Messi and Neymar
are ready for center stage and perhaps a final duel that would pit South America's preeminent
attacking talents against each other.
The first few games at the tournament have provided some great theater, with host Kashiwa Reysol
stealing the show with two victories, including a penalty-kick triumph over CONCACAF champion
Monterrey.
Kashiwa Reysol's FIFA Club World Cup dream ended today at the hands of South American champions
Santos FC. Neymar was amongst the goals for the Brazilians as they claimed a 3-1 win against the
J-League champions whilst earlier in the day North and Central American champions Monterrey CF won
the 5th/6th place play-off, getting the better of African champions Espérance Tunis by the odd
goal in five.
David Villa fractured his left tibia shortly before half-time in the Fifa Club World Cup
semi-final against Al Sadd in Yokohama, Japan today.
Villa, who had been linked with a move to away from the Nou Camp in January, was carried off on
a stretcher after appearing to land awkwardly 39 minutes into a game Barcelona were winning
1-0.
It may not have been the most difficult challenge that FC Barcelona would have to face in their
quest to become FIFA Club World Cup winners. That, however, did not dampen the celebrations as the
Spanish and European champions strolled their way past a poor Santos FC team courtesy of a 4-0
victory.

DOHA, Qatar — An impressive Australia crushed India 4-0 to get their Asian Cup campaign off to a
decisive start Monday with red-hot Everton star Tim Cahill collecting two goals. Played at an
Al-Sadd Stadium packed with noisy expatriate Indians, a convincing win was needed by the Socceroos
to demonstrate their tournament credentials against a [.
DOHA, Qatar — Bahrain's Ismaeel Abdulatif scored a remarkable four goals as his side thrashed
India 5-2 here on Friday to stay in contention for an Asian Cup last-eight berth and consign the
Indians to elimination. The 24-year-old forward scored three times in just 19 minutes in a
devastating first-half spell, after Faouzi Aaish's penalty [.
DOHA, Qatar Socceroos midfielder Jason Culina will miss the rest of Australia's Asian Cup campaign
because of a serious knee injury that has forced him home early from Qatar. A shattered Culina was
released from Socceroos camp just hours before Australia's 1-0 quarter-final win over Iraq at
Al-Sadd Stadium.
The qualifying play-offs for the 2011 AFC Champions League have been completed this weekend
and for Qatar's Al-Sadd and Al Ain from the United Arab Emirates it has been a great weekend as
they secured the final two berths in this year's tournament.
In the West section Al-Sadd, who easily disposed of Syrian side Al-Ittihad with a 5-1 scoreline
in the first play-off round, had to overcome the challenge of Indian champions Dempo SC in order
to reach the group stages.

I know, I know. I broke our concord and neglected to post a Weekend Update last week. But
really, did anyone else actually notice Mr. poor Futbol Intellect fan? Let's get back on the wagon
with a look at some goals, stories, and flops that you might have missed from this weekend.
The group stages in the two major Asian club competitions have concluded on Wednesday and there
was plenty of tension in the air. The remaining places in the Round of 16 stages of each
competition were up for grabs and ensured some dramatic action on Matchday 6.
In the AFC Champions League there was virtually nothing left to play for in the east of the
continent as all of the qualifiers from Groups E-H were known before kick-off.
ellos se les sumó Al Ittihad (Aleppo, Siria) como campeón de la AFC Cup.
The Round of 16 in the 2011 AFC Champions League was completed over the last two days.
South Korea remains the strongest nation in the competition with three clubs representing the
K-League in the quarter-final stages. K-League title holders FC Seoul defeated record Japanese
champions Kashima Antlers by three goals to nil with goals from Hwan, Dejan Damjanović and Ko
sealing their passage through to the last eight.
A mass brawl erupted in the Asian Champions League semi-final between Al Sadd and Suwon
Bluewings after Suwon put the ball out for attention to an injured player only for the official to
wave play-on and Mamadou Niang to score Al Sadd's controversial second goal.
The Asian Champions League doesn't get much pub this side of, well, Asia, especially not when
playing on the same day as the European Champions League. A quick way to rectify this injustice is
to start a massive brawl in a regional semifinal. The genesis is as ludicrous as the concept
itself:
With two players down in the box (for genuine reasons), one for each side, Suwon was attacking
the Al-Sadd goal.

This says it all:

quarterfinals but still made it to the last four. After losing, 1-0, at home to Sepahan, the Asian
confederation gave the losers a 3-0 win after discovering that the Iranian team had fielded an
ineligible player.

Goals from Alexis Sanchez (2), David Villa and Lionel Messi gave the Spanish and European

the gap between themselves and league leaders Real Madrid to three points but the capital side do
have the advantage of a game in hand.
