Gymnastic geriatric Over-exuberant manager celebrations are nothing new in football, but they are
rarely quite as energetic as this and on the odd occasions that they are they are not usually
performed by managers who are pushing 70. But Dimitri Davidovic, the 67-year-old Belgian coach of
Saudi side Al-Ittihad, showed off his gymnastic [.
Despite the lack of winners and losers in the opening round of matches in the CAF Champions
League group stages this weekend there was still plenty to shout about. The CAF Confederation Cup,
Africa's second-tier competition, almost followed suit with two of this weekend's four matches
ending in a stalemate.
Al-Hilal Saudi Football Club (Arabic: نادي الهلال), usually called Al-Hilal, is a
Saudi Arabian soccer club based in the country's capital of Riyadh. The club won its 13th Saudi
Premier League title last season and was a semi-finalist in the 2010 edition of the AFC Champions
League. Manager by former German international and Hamburger SV [.
The African Champions League saw the first legs of the semi-final stage this weekend with narrow
wins for Moroccans Wydad Casablanca and Tunisians Espérance.
Wydad Casablanca, African champions back in 1992, were fearful of wasting home advantage as
their game against Nigerian champions Enyimba FC looked to be heading to a goalless stalemate.
With this piece by new contributor Matthew Pentz, TSG kicks off it's African soccer
coverage.
The Forgotten Footie Continent
The African Champions League exists mostly, if not completely, on the periphery of the soccer
world. The tournament blends a strong history, passionate fans, and an up-and-coming class of young
players, however, and its semifinalists each have a bit of the underdog in them.

The group stages in the two major Asian club competitions have concluded on Wednesday and there
was plenty of tension in the air. The remaining places in the Round of 16 stages of each
competition were up for grabs and ensured some dramatic action on Matchday 6.
In the AFC Champions League there was virtually nothing left to play for in the east of the
continent as all of the qualifiers from Groups E-H were known before kick-off.
Mazembe won the last two titles. Who will take their title this year?
With much political and civil unrest disrupting a great deal of the 2011 CAF Champions League it
is an achievement in itself that the group stages will be played as originally scheduled. Many
games were either postponed, re-scheduled or teams disqualified from the tournament for various
reasons in what has been a difficult tournament to organize.
The semi-final places have yet to be decided in the CAF Champions League and the CAF
Confederation Cup and with four of the six matchdays completed it seems likely that the next round
of games will be the most important played in this year's competitions so far.
Group A could've seen Nigerians Enyimba FC (4 games, 8 points) seal their place in the last four
at the weekend but they were held to a goalless draw away at bottom club Raja Casablanca who gained
only their second point of the campaign.
With just one matchday to play in the group stage of the CAF African Champions League only
Nigerian champions Enyimba FC have secured a place in the semi-finals. Five teams kept alive their
ambitions of progression into the final four of this year's competition and thus ensure an
interesting finish to this stage of the tournament next weekend.
Saudi Arabia's domestic championship began this weekend with record champions Al-Hilal showing
their mettle as they came from behind to defeat Hajer Club by two goals to one whilst Al-Ittihad
warmed up for their forthcoming AFC Champions League clash with South Korean outfit FC Seoul with
an exciting 5-3 triumph over Al Tawwun.

In which, during his side's 2-1 U23 Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Cup win over Al Ansar, Al Hilal's
Radwan Al-Moosa pops up completely unmarked at the back stick to apply a consumate finishing touch
(on the volley) to his opponent's lame cross/tame shot..
The sheer volume of combined calamities needed for Al-Hilal to concede this goal boggles the mind.

Since there is an international break in club action this weekend, we are going to take advantage
of the break to bring the next entry in our series of Annual Club Rankings.
For the second time in three years, Juventus headed the top of the Annual Rankings despite
finishing as runner-up in the European Champions Cup.
Kicking and passing with the 'outside of the foot' is a very elegant and advanced skill that is
mastered by only small number of players. I will cover in this series some of these
players. This year the Saudi league started with a storming media and legal debate of the Cameroonian player
at Al-Hilal Achille Emana, did he give a finger or he didn't?
This week is rich of wonderful bicycle kicks and dribble solo goals. I really enjoyed seeing the
solo ones in specific,
I will start by this wonderful run by Vitor Junior from Brazil
I don't know if I say that this is a wonderful solo, or a wonderful team work, it is an
entertaining piece of music
Neymar definitely is one of the next big things in soccer, especially if he managed to employ his
talent to the team and not just to himself
This is not a goal, but a wonderful run by Archivan
Messi brilliant control of the ball
But, if you have missed it, you must watch what Messi did in the CL game vs.
Tunisian giants Espérance will make their maiden appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup
following their second CAF Champions League title win, their first such title for seventeen years,
which was achieved with a 1-0 aggregate victory over Moroccans WAC Casablanca in the final. Should
the Tunis based side overcome the challenge of Asian champions Al Sadd in the quarter-finals, a
glamour tie against UEFA Champions League winners FC Barcelona will be on the cards for one of
Africa's most famous clubs.
