A wonder goal scored by league leaders Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates has gone viral and it is easy to see why.
Currently top of the UAE Pro-League by a huge nine point margin, Al Ain are the record champions in the oil rich nation with ten league championships to their name. Al Ain, based in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, have only lost one game so far this season and that defeat came on the opening day of the season against Al Ahli.
The high-spending French power swooped in to sign rising Brazilian star Lucas Moura, outbidding
the likes of Manchester United and Inter Milan for the Sao Paulo attacking midfielder. Reports
Tuesday had PSG making a €45 million move for Lucas, who is currently on the Brazilian Olympic
team that is vying for the gold medal in London.
Just when you thought United Arab Emirates couldn't test the limits of architectural physics any
further, they went and hatched this quite phenomenal plan: a 40,000 seater football stadium peeking
out of a lifeless and barren land. 'The Rock Stadium' is set to be built in the Al Ain desert and
will be constructed below [.
I stumbled across this story when catching up on all the latest football news and thought i
would highlight here not because it is one of the biggest transfer stories on this last day of the
transfer window, but rather because of its almost near obscurity.
Frankly, speaking , i thought Toni had retired from the game so imagine my shock when i read
that he had actually been with Juventus all this time.
Just what is 'verbal abuse'? It must be relative, as the line drawn in some areas is much
different than, say, the one in the United Arab Emirates.
Diego. He's less than the ideal role model off the pitch. And now he's been fined for calling an
opposing coach 'quite rude', which would probably qualify as the nicest thing said in a Premiership
press conference this week.

When Asamoah Gyan arrived at Sunderland for a club record £13 million fee, it seemed like the
dawn of a new era for both club and player. However, the new era has become true only in the case
of the player, while Sunderland are back where they were under Roy Keane – struggling at the
wrong end of the table.
Despite admitting his admiration for new manager Martin O'Neill, Asamoah Gyan has outlined his
reluctance to return to Sunderland, perhaps even after his loan spell with Middle Eastern outfit Al
Ain has finished.
Ghanaian goalscorer Gyan – who has netted 27 times in 54 matches for the Black Stars – is in
the United Arab Emirates as a result of a deal struck back in September and, although rumours to
the contrary have circulated this week, the 26 year-old ruled out a return to Wearside this
January.
Phil Neville is in favor of manager David Moyes bringing in reinforcements to the club during
the winter transfer window in January, but one player the Everton captain doesn't see being brought
in is Landon Donovan.
All eyes will be on Asamoah Gyan at the upcoming African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial
Guinea in January as he attempts to help Ghana go one better than their second place finish two
years ago.
The Ghanaian striker was voted African player of the year in 2010 and was one of the players to
make the biggest impact on the World Cup in South Africa as he helped his side become only the
third African country to make the quarter-finals of the tournament.
I'm not sure how this works outside of the transfer window, but Asamoah Gyan has left Sunderland.
From Sunderland's official website: Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan is set to join United Arab
Emirates side Al-Ain on loan. Officials from Al-Ain made contact with Sunderland earlier in the
week with a view to signing the player on a permanent deal.
The qualifying play-offs for the 2011 AFC Champions League have been completed this weekend
and for Qatar's Al-Sadd and Al Ain from the United Arab Emirates it has been a great weekend as
they secured the final two berths in this year's tournament.
In the West section Al-Sadd, who easily disposed of Syrian side Al-Ittihad with a 5-1 scoreline
in the first play-off round, had to overcome the challenge of Indian champions Dempo SC in order
to reach the group stages.

Asamoah Gyan's weekend was full of surprises for Ghanian soccer fans. The striker wrote a letter
to the country's football association (FA) informing the national team's leadership that he would
be retiring "indefinitely" from international play.
The 26-year-old has claimed that he has not fully recovered psychologically from missing a
crucial penalty in the 120th minute of Ghana's loss to Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup
Quarterfinals.
Like a cross between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Nicklas Bendtner, Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan is very
fond of his own abilities. There were questions as to whether he would play in Ghana's African Cup
of Nations match against Mali after sustaining an injury in training on Thursday, but he did start
and scored off a free kick in his side's 2-0 win.
Last week we saw a bizarre transfer when Al-Ain announced that they will be signing Asamoah Gyan
on a one year loan at ridiculous wages. Gyan obviously took the option. Many questioned the move,
accusing him of being a money grabber, accusing him of making a terrible move with respect to his
career and what not.
Theyab Awana one of the UAE's brightest stars died on Sunday, tragically killed in a car
accident. He was just 21. Awana was returning from a training camp held at Al Ain ahead of the
team's qualifier with South Korea on October 11 when his car struck a road repair lorry. Awana
passed away in the hospital.
Theyab Awana, the UAE winger who became an internet sensation after netting a supremely cheeky
back-heeled penalty kick in the UAE's 7-2 demolition of Lebanon in July, has been killed in a car
crash.
The 21-year-old was driving back to Abu Dhabi on Sunday evening after taking part in a national
team training session in Al Ain when his car collided with a truck.
The only thing better than a great goal is a great goal with several layers of controversy which
can dovetail into a mindless internet argument, the epicenter of which is YouTube.
Hallelujah.
This is either the greatest dummy or luckiest goal in recent memory. He appears to skip past it
from one angle, yet miss it completely from another.
Less concerned with this successfully converted penalty trick we see roughly once a year than I
am with two things:
i. After watching it several times, I still can't help but root for the keeper to stop it. I see
the ball go to his left...and then he goes to the left...and then he reads the shot correctly, goes
right.

Long-term Liverpool target Ola Toivonen is being linked with a move to Sunderland.
The Swedish international striker was heavily linked with a move to Anfield whilst the Reds were
under the stewardship of Roy Hodgson, who still had connections from his time in Scandinavia.
However, replacement Kenny Dalgish was also thought to be keen on the PSV Eindhoven forward, who
impressed Liverpool scouts with his form in the Eredivisie.
