AKRON, Ohio Junior Anthony Ampaipitakwong scored a pair of goals and the defense took care of
the rest as the top-seeded University of Akron men's soccer team defeated South Florida, 2-0,
before a record-setting crowd of 2,700 fans in second-round action of the NCAA Tournament Sunday at
Lee Jackson field.
The ACC is once again staking its claim as a dominant conference in men's college soccer. In the
latest edition of the NSCAA College Soccer Rankings, the conference now boasts three teams in the
top 5. Wake Forest, North Carolina and Maryland all clock in at No. 3, 4 and 5 respectively.
Conference tournaments are right around the corner, increasing the stakes of each match this
late in the college soccer season. While the No. 1 Akron Zips have certainly earned at least an
at-large bid, an undefeated regular season is still in sight. The Zips did nothing to harm the
cause Wednesday, eking out a 2-1 win against Michigan State to remain undefeated on the year.
18 wins from 18 games, and the Akron Zips are the top-ranked team no matter where you look in
the collegiate ranks. NSCAA and Soccer America both have the Zips on top, and the latest RPI
released this week concurs. Having answered every question asked of them during the regular season,
Akron now has a chance to run the table all the way to a NCAA championship.
Today's guest is Teal Bunbury of the Akron of Ohio Zips soccer
team. Teal has been a resident of Minnesota since 2000 growing up in Prior Lake. He played for the
Rochester Thunder PDL team this past summer and has 17 goals for Akron this season. As a sophomore
he leads the NCAA in scoring.

Illinois over the weekend. Akron outshot Northern Illinois 17-3 but could only muster a game-winner

answering those critics, as the Nittany Lions came in ranked 16th in this week's RPI.

victory against Tulsa in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals to secure a berth in the College Cup
semifinals, set for Friday in Cary, North Carolina.
Defender Kofi Sarkodie provided the winner for the Zips, who will now face North Carolina in the
national semifinal.
The run of Caleb Porter and the Akron Zips are a model of consistency, as well as a model of
building a tremendous winning culture.
"When we started to develop our brand of soccer, it was with the mindset that hopefully we'd be in
a position where we could go toe-to-toe with a team like this and not sitting back worried, trying
to pinch a result," Porter said.
