It seems the prices being asked for two of Newcastle's summer targets will see the Magpies pass,
and look for better bargains elsewhere. Montpellier's Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa - too expensive? Ajax
center-back and captain Jan Vertonghen has already come out and said he wants to join Tottenham,
with his next choice being Arsenal so it's clear he doesn't [.
UEFA Power Rankings 20 February 2012 - The 90th Minute Soccer Blog
Below are my weekly power rankings for the top (8) clubs teams in UEFA. These rankings are a
combination of their play in domestic and UEFA competitions.
Real Madrid continue to be in the top spot while there's little change in the rest of the power
rankings.
A nasty mashing of the heads occurred during the Dutch victory over England during the
international friendlies will surely have all clubs involved utterly thrilled to send everyone off
to the next midweek friendly. The two gentleman in question, Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Chris
Smalling, both landed in the hospital, with Smalling sounding the worse of the two despite the fact
that he wasn't semi-conscious at best, having a turf dinner and especially since Huntelaar scored
on the play.
An interesting list of the 30 best young players in the world of soccer, put together by Futebol
Finance. Very interesting to see the value of some of the players.
Bayern Leverkusen's chance's of gaining a Champions League quarter final spot are all but
impossible given the match facts, despite Barcelona's injury list including defender Eric Abidal
and double goalscorer in the first leg Alexis Sanchez.
MATCH STATS
These sides have met on seven occasions in European competition, with Barcelona winning the last
four encounters.
It's already thought that, while not yet terminal, the 3-2 defeat by Athletic Bilbao could be
another harrowing moment in Sir Alex Ferguson's European career. Like the three seasons in which
they were essentially knocked out on away goals before and after winning the Champions League in
1999, it's the concession of home goals which was their bane here.
There seems to be anew player Newcastle are reported to be after, every week at the moment. John
Guidetti Newcastel interested in top 19 year-old striker The news last Sunday was that Newcastle
were after Ajax center-back Toby Alderweireld and news today in the Sunday Sun that Newcastle are
interested in Sweden striker John [.

How different this transfer window is for Arsenal compared to last summer, with Arsene Wenger
already announcing his first signing even before the season has ended. So now Lukas Podolski's
arrival at the Emirates has been confirmed, it seems Arsenal's second-worst-kept-secret is also
approaching a conclusion with the news that Wenger is in advanced negotiations [.
The Top 20 Derbies In Europe By Attendance - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Watched by a global TV audience of around 650 million, it's been described as 'the mother of all
derbies' and the second most important game in the world (after El Clasico) but is the Manchester
derby the biggest derby in Europe?
A list put together by BBC Sport on the top 50 players from around the world that could be on the
move during the month ahead.
In the realm of sport, there is a constant observance of the two games, football and soccer.
Seemingly, these two games repeatedly are seen as total opposites of each other. One played with
feet, one with hands. One demands constant replays and call reviews, while one cherishes the
controversial decisions in the heat of the [.
The KNVB Beker (Dutch Cup) clash between Ajax Amsterdam and AZ Alkmaar, which was suspended due
to an attack on AZ keeper Esteban Alvarado in the initial encounter, was completed today in the
Amsterdam ArenA with the home side going down to a 3-2 defeat.
Siem de Jong gave Ajax the lead as early as the 10th minute only for the visitors to restore
parity fourteen minutes later through Maarten Martins.

We had put out this article just before the Newcastle vs Sunderland game and are re-releasing it
so to speak, since it got lost in the drama surrounding all the news of the derby game yesterday.
The Sunday Sun reported yesterday that Newcastle are interested in Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld.
Toby Alderweireld Ajax [.
At the time of posting, it's Tuesday for 99.3% of the world's population, which means it's
probably fair to call this Tuesday's news and notes. And for this Tuesday day, night, morning,
evening, or afternoon for 99.3% of the world's population we've got Suarez and Rafa and the media
to get to, so we might as well get right to it.
There isn't much that can be said about Marco Van Basten that hasn't already been said. The man is
a legend. If you were a kid in the early 1990′swatching Serie A, Van Basten is one of the first
names that you would have beentaught. It is synonymous with greatness. A three time Ballon D'Or
winner, Van Basten was part of Milan's golden age.

Things might be awful for the Inter Milan seniors, but we see plenty of room for optimism in the
U19s.
Namely Samuele Longo, seen here celebrating a penalty win for his side in the NextGen Series
Final vs. Ajax U19. Despite sporting the unnervingly smooth skin of a 19-year-old, he's actually
20, meaning you members of the Kickette Special Forces (Cougar Battalion) are free to dust off your
supplies of baby oil and head on in with minimum guilt.
Luis Suarez could be the subject of a bid from Roma this summer, according to Italian publication
Il Tempo.
Suarez has been an instant hit with Liverpool supporters since he made the switch from Ajax last
year but has had his desire to stay in England tested after a string of controversial incidents.
But this difference of opinion isn't what matters for Montero, nor that Montero will likely move
on from the Seattle Sounders soon enough. Rather, it's that MLS made him the player that he is
today, and until his future is decided -- Fulham, Ajax and Real Betis have all reportedly expressed
interest in recent transfer windows -- MLS fans should enjoy watching Montero stateside while they
still can.
One player continued his scoring pace while another got on the board for the first time as many of
the members of the U.S. Men's National Team were in action this weekend. Here's some of the
highlights:
- Clint Dempsey had a goal and an assist as Fulham captured a 2-1 win against Norwich.
News today in the Evening Chronicle that Alan Pardew was in Amsterdam yesterday, taking in the
Ajax vs De Graafschap game. Toby Alderweireld is this Newcastle's real target? The Chronicle is

Rumours have it that the Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is already looking for players which can
improve his team, especially if they manage to sneak into a Champions League place, and according
to today's newspapers Pardew took a personal visit to the Netherlands to watch Ajax's game against
De Graafschap.

Liverpool's former director of football Damien Comolli may have one last parting gift for the club
after it was reported that he sent he club's chief scout to Holland to watch midfielder Rasmus
Elm.
Comolli was in charge of helping identify potential signings and it seems he was keen to try and
convince Liverpool to move for the AZ Alkmaar midfielder just days before he was sacked.

Arsenal have reportedly completed a deal to bring the Belgian International to The Emirates.
"Agent_ITK also got Podolski to Arsenal & Bendtner to Sunderland moves spot on, months before
deals were confirmed. #ReliablyInformed"
"Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle with Ajax for defender Jan Vertonghen, according to very
reliable sources.
Now that Arsenal have already secured the German international Lukas Podolski, every pundit around
was absolutely certain that Wenger's next target would be Jan Vertonghen, who could be available
for as little as £7million as he approaches the last year of his contract at Ajax. Vertonghen
played alongside Thomas Vermaelen at the Dutch giants, and [.
We all know that Alan Pardew was at FC Twente last weekend to check out some Newcastle transfer
targets in the game with Ajax. Roberto Rosales - FC Twente right back interesting Newcastle? Most
reports suggest he was looking at Jan Vertonghen, who is also an Arsenal and Tottenham target,
and we don't think he will be coming to Newcastle in the summer.

Introduced to the world by the Ajax duo of Johan Cruyff and Jesper Olsen in 1982 and then
totally messed up by Arsenal's Thierry Henry and Robert Pires in 2005 (see above), the famous
two-man penalty kick trick has once again reared its cheeky head, this time in the less glamorous
environs of the Bosnia & Herzegovina Second Division.
With Martin Kelly set to make his senior England debut and everyone remembering the club has
more than just a new managerial hire to worry about, it's been a surprisingly busy day of Liverpool
news after most of the week has seen a single-minded focus on questions over who would replace
Kenny Dalglish and whether the fans could trust Fenway Sports Group's judgement in the matter.
