With the sound of shutting transfer windows across Europe in midweek, it's time to examine the
moves made and not made by key Americans across the pond.
Some found happy new homes, but most of the name ex-pats overseas stayed put, either due to
choice or a tighter European market largely focused on bargains and youth promotion.
Arsenal's newly-signed Japanese youngster Ryo Miyachi shows his technical ability in the video

The teenager, who was also said to be on the radars of European giants AC Milan and Ajax, will
sign for the Gunners after his contract with Chukyo High School expires at the
end of September.

New AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri may have inherited a Rossoneri side that had
been weakened by instability in recent years.
However, it took only one week the final week of transfers, to be precise to convince Allegri
that owner Silvio Berlusconi is fully behind an initiative to restore the club's image as a
European giant.
Johann Cruyff in his weekly posting in "El Periodico" opines that Barça must score early and
often before matches become a slog of constant fouling from the opposition. He predicts a tough
season for the Barça boys if they get in the habit of playing in low-scoring matches. Had Barça
finished more of their chances in the Atletico Madrid match, Messi would have been on the bench as
time dwindled down.
Ryan Babel has admitted that he 'failed personally' during Liverpool's humiliating Carling Cup exit
to Northampton Town after being dropped from Holland's Euro 2012 squad.
The trying attacker suffered a double heartache on Wednesday as Liverpool crashed out to the League
Two outfit on penalties just hours after he found out that Bert van Marwijk omitted him from the
Oranje's upcoming qualifiers against Moldova and Sweden.
On this week's List of the Week, I thought I'd bring you something simple and that can be found
in multiple places, but still is asked about all of the time. Specifically, I'm talking about a
list of winners of the UEFA Champions League. I have two lists, actually. First is a list of the
clubs that have won the championship.
With the UEFA Champions League group tables set to begin action in a little more than a week
let's take a look at who in La Liga has the best chance of surviving the first round of the
season long tournament:
1) Barcelona
No team in any major league received as favorable a draw as the former treble winners have.
The problem: loads of extremely talented midfielders all vying for a limited amount of
positions.
There's not too many ways available to keep all of them happy, let's be frank. During a single
game, at most, there'll be five midfield positions available and just four on some occasions. It's
hard to squeeze so many good players into that formation, especially when there's some that you
simply shouldn't be leaving out.
The times aren't easy for Ajax. They haven't won a title for quite some time, they are finally
back in the CL after years of invisibility and to top it all of, the once mighty Ajax is a
cash-poor hand-to-mouth club...

Rafael van der Vaart has revealed that he chose to join Tottenham ahead of Liverpool this
summer.
The Holland international made a dramatic deadline day switch to White Hart Lane after seeing Harry
Redknapp move late for his services.
It had appeared that the playmaker was all set to remain at Spanish giants Real Madrid, with no
agreement in place to take him away from the Bernabeu.
It was three years ago, in the summer of 2007. Ajax and Arsenal played each other in the Amsterdam
Tournament and Thomas Vermaelen was too eager to impress his manager, resulting in a small fight

Juventus celebrate winning the 1995-96 Champions League final vs Ajax
In the early to mid-90s I wasn't fortunate enough to be subscribed to the new wave of football
hysteria that was Sky Sports so my Sunday afternoon football fix came via the ever-exciting
'Football Italia' on Channel 4.

Is this the season of injuries, Kickettes? We don't know what's swirling around in the
atmosphere that's causing so many awful injuries so soon, but we no likey. As such, we will be
looking for answers here until we find them.
In last night's 0-0 Champions League draw between Manchester United and Rangers, United winger
Antonio Valencia suffered a truly horrific broken ankle.

Jose Mourinho, ready to win moreThe Champions League has begun, and while we are only at the group
stages, I still find it very interesting to see how teams are finding European competition. There
were plenty of interesting results in this group of matches, and as you'd expect, some ridiculous
thrashings.

Three games played: none conceded. Typical Mourinho. Two league games played: One goal scored.
Hardly vintage Real Madrid. Even last night's 2-0 win against Ajax in the Bernabeu did not satisfy
the fans' gluttonous hunger for goals. Starved of silver for the past two seasons, Madridistas will
be quick to bay for blood.
In Holland, that is...
This Sunday, the two giants face off again. Feyenoord is a long way away from troubling the top
in Holland, though. The massive financial concerns have prompted director Leo Beenhakker to moan
that his club might be a sub top club for quite some time...

Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen. However it is reported that
Barcelona and Juventus have also been scouting Vertonghen.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho addressed the media one day before their Champions League
match against Auxerre. He had some choice words to say about the absence of Pedro Leon in the
Real Madrid squad but other than that his comments were pretty standard and politically correct,
but always entertaining!

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho believes victory in their next Champions League tie with AC
Milan will almost certainly clinch qualification to the last-sixteen.
He was delighted with his team's 1-0 victory in Auxerre where his decision to bring on Angel di
Maria swung the tie in the favour of Los Blancos.
The man of the moment, Rafael van der VaartAm I right in thinking that the English Premier
League transfer window was firmly shut at 6pm yesterday (Tuesday, 31st August 2010)?
If that is the case, how is that neither Tottenham Hotspur nor the Premier League have announced
the transfer of Mr.
Liverpool attacker Ryan Babel has dismissed rumours of a move to Tottenham or West Ham, saying he
is 'going nowhere'.
The 23-year-old has been the subject of intense speculation on the final day of the transfer
window, but insists he will be staying at Anfield for the foreseeable future.
Babel was reported to be flying south in a helicopter on Tuesday, headed for the capital with both
Spurs and the Hammers possible destinations.
Tottenham Hotspur new signing Rafael van der Vaart, born 11 February 1983 is a Dutch footballer
who plays for Tottenham Hotspur and the Netherlands national team. His preferred position is
central midfield as a playmaker however he can also operate in wider positions. Van der Vaart began
his career at Ajax's famous youth academy and worked his way into the first team debuting as a
17-year-old.
There are a myriad of ways you could describe AC Milan's much-travelled show-pony Zlatan
Ibrahimovic (lolloping gobshite, work-shy flake, disruptive semi-megalomaniac,
self-important tossweed) but 'likeable' or even 'affable' probably wouldn't be the kind of
characteristics that would be on the tip of your tongue if you were asked to outwardly assess his
personality.
