There is little doubt that anything which can improve the technical skills of young English
footballers at youth level is something to be welcomed, and thus the announcement that Arsenal and
Chelsea will be joining up with the NextGen series this year is encouraging news for fans of the
England team.
Rumors linking Victor Moses with Chelsea had been bubbling for close to a month. It was an
intriguing but unsubstantiated claim. However, thanks to Wigan chairman Dave Whelan, we now know
that the club actually has taken a liking to the player. Interesting.

From Maradona's 'Hand of God' to the two-footed tackle, match officials can make or break a
team's season with their decision making and interpretation of events. Every weekend, football fans
across the world leave football grounds disgruntled at the perceived injustice their team has
received at the hands of the ref.

New Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has admitted that he was attracted by the opportunity to work
in the Premier League with Liverpool.
The 61-year-old was linked with both the manager's job and a role as sporting director at Anfield
following the dismissal of Kenny Dalglish, but Brendan Rodgers was eventually appointed.
Shortly after word spread of a deal that would send Tim Cahill to the New York Red Bulls for
about £1 million, Everton confirmed the transfer with a statement on their official website. It
reads:
Everton have agreed with Major League Soccer (MLS) that Tim Cahill can be transferred to the
New York Red Bulls.
Any chance there's a monster of a player waiting to come out?
Still pissed over the RvP thing? Yeah, well so am I. But if you're on any social network, this
topic probably has been discussed to the death and all points exhausted. Thus I'm not going to
touch it on here. Whatever happens, happens.

Newly appointed Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo has wasted no time in making it clear that his
team will be determined to build on the last season's laurels rather than resting on them.
Di Matteo guided the Blues to their first ever UEFA Champions League title only a fortnight
after helping them win the FA Cup against Liverpool at Wembley.
Chelsea have announced that Roberto Di Matteo will become the full-time manager after serving as
caretaker/interim for the last few months of the 2012 season.
Initially, Di Matteo was not expected to have a chance to have the job past the season but
winning the UEFA Champions League changed things.
After courting Pep Guardiola for a month, Chelsea have finally done the right thing and named
Roberto Di Matteo as there new manger. Do Matteo has signed a two-year contract with Chelsea.
In a statement on the Chelsea web site, the club's chief executive Ron Gourlay said:

New Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers sent a printed open letter through the South Wales
Evening Post for the Swansea City fans.
This is a letter I'd hoped I would not have to write for a long time, and only ever in the event
of a unique opportunity.
The chance to manage one of the world's great footballing institutions doesn't come around very
often in a manager's life and, after two approaches, I have decided to take up the professional
challenge.

How is it that you can wake up with hiccups? I thought you had to have been drinking too
quickly, or something, to get a case of hiccups. It seems entirely unreasonable that you could
suddenly find yourself waking up hiccuping, but that's what's happened to me today. Perhaps I was
dreaming about drinking too much or perhaps my body's just objecting to getting up at this time of
day and is finding passive aggressive ways of registering its displeasure.
Welcome to the new abbreviated match thread! As we've gone through the months we've picked up on
our preview duties prior to the game and, as such, we're going to test out a new abbreviated match
thread which doesn't aim to preview the game itself, but rather display as much information as
possible so that you guys can find everything you need to know about the match.
Their brave new world wasn't meant to turn out like this. When Kettering Town moved out of their
Rockingham Road ground to the then recently vacated Nene Park, the former home of near rivals
Rushden & Diamonds, the aim was surely for a place in the Football League. Last night, however, the
club played its first home match of the season in the Premier Division of the Southern League in
front of a little under 600 supporters and was beaten by two goals to one by Hemel Hempstead
Town.
Whilst it was the 4-4 game against Everton that really cost us the title last season, the 1-0
defeat to Wigan when they were enjoying top form, certainly didn't help. What was usually a
guaranteed three points, often after a 4-0 win, was a game that saw our grip on the title
loosen.

With The London Olympics hogging the limelight and making all the headlines, Premier League
football is taking an usual and unfamiliar berth at the back of peoples minds right now, but
there's a mere two-and-a-bit weeks to go until United kick their glory hunting season of 2012/13
off with the aim of wrestling the title [.
Nani has moved to play down any rumours linking him with a move away from the club. He has
already started negotiations with United, despite having two years remaining on his current deal,
and towards the end of the season claimed "Manchester United is my home."
Nani goes in to the Euros hoping to win something with Portugal, with only two players (Muller
(32) and Rosicky (31)) having created more goalscoring opportunities than Nani (29) when
qualifying.
The Danes could cause an upset and book their place in the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 should
they beat Portugal in the Group B encounter.
Portugal star Ronaldo and his team-mates face the prospect of an early end to their tournament
should they lose to the Danes following their defeat to Germany in their opening match.
Germany beat Portugal 1-0 in their Euro 2012 opener on Saturday, frustrating Cristiano Ronaldo
in the process -- something the German fans tried to lay the seeds for well before the match even
started.
From Marca:
In the hours leading up to the big game between Germany and Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo is once
again the focus of attention.
Ireland's goalless draw in a friendly with Hungary on Monday made it 14 games without defeat for
Giovanni Trapattoni's side. They're not often all that thrilling to watch, although they did give
Estonia a thrashing in the play-off to reach Euro 2012.
Milan turned the tables in the last round thanks to Giampaolo Pazzini's hat-trick. Back to winning ways and with Pazzini finding his form again, things seem to be looking rosy red for Max Allegri's side. Yet, despite the 3-1 score line over Bologna, the Rossoneri's performance left much to be desired.

We're all together and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name.
As the USWNT moves from Glasgow to Manchester, and as players gear up for the thrill of playing at
Old Trafford, I thought this might be a good moment to reflect on the place of women's football at
Manchester United. My aim isn't to be a total killjoy (this story is depressing) but rather to
signal how far things have come and to suggest that all the women playing at Old Trafford should
feel the support of generations of players who could never imagine playing in "the theater of
dreams.
You didn't really believe it was going to happen, did you? Following yet another tournament exit at
the very first stage of the knock-outs, this England team achieved its standard, more historically
accurate aim of a somewhat awkward glorious exit....
Fourteen state teams will take aim at regional titles and national berths at the U.S. Youth
Soccer Region II Championships, which start Saturday in Saginaw, Mich.
The regional tournament, which includes three days of pool play with semifinals on Tuesday and
the finals Wednesday, includes the top club sides from 13 states.
After wandering around Kharkiv during the afternoon cooling down with ice creams and then thunder
and a little rain, the main aim of the afternoon was to find somewhere to watch the evenings
football.
