Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has delayed finalising his team for
Saturday's World Cup play-off first leg against France at Croke Park.

friendly against Nigeria on May 29 in London

Celtic midfielder Aiden McGeady was sent off for DIVING as the Hoops claimed a 1-0 win at Hibernian
to go level on points with SPL leaders Rangers. Just days ago, Arsenal frontman Eduardo was accused
of diving after winning a dubious penalty in the Champions League play-off clash against Celtic at
Emirates Stadium.
UEFA's disciplinary panel is deliberating on whether Eduardo was guilty of deception. Its a much
broader charge as the statement below suggests.
"Acting with the obvious intent to cause any match official to make an incorrect
decision."
Arsenal is countering with a 19 page document which calls UEFA's investigations as a
contravention to its own rules of not allowing "field of play" to be second guessed.
Below is a list of teams with some quality players which will unfortunately miss the World Cup
next summer:
Ireland- The Irish team may not be the most talented to miss out on
qualification but certainly was unjustly eliminated by France. The Ireland squad is not as deep as
other but has talented players such as Aiden McGeady who plays as a winger and/or forward for
Celtic.
Having scouted the Republic of Ireland international, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is preparing an
end of season offer. According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Express, Tottenham
Hotspur are eyeing Celtic winger Aiden Mcgeady. Apparently, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is a fan
of the 22-year-old and having sent scouts to watch him play in [.
Celtic and Ireland winger Aiden McGeady is hoping to rejuvenate his Celtic career following
the club's recent change of manager.
The Ireland international suffered a high-profile falling out with former Hoops boss Gordon
Strachan last season, resulting in a two-week suspension.
Ireland manager, Giovanni Trapattoni, has named a 24- man squad to face Australia in
Thomond Park on Wednesday, 12 August
Goalkeepers
Shay Given Manchester City
Kieren Westwood Coventry City
Joe Murphy Scunthorpe United
Defenders
John O'Shea Manchester United
Kevin Foley Wolves
Richard Dunne Manchester City
Stephen Kelly Fullham
Kevin Kilbane Hull City
Eddie Nolan Preston North End

I was delighted to hear the news that Damien Duff made a switch to Fulham, running away from
Mike Ashley and his sinking ship called Newcastle. The Irish winger had endured a very difficult
period with the Magpies but he remained loyal despite all that was happening. He did not expressed
desire to leave but rather wanted to stay and help the club the practically ruined his
career.
Harry looks to beef up squad.
HARRY REDKNAPP has targeted Celtic stars Aiden McGeady and Scott Brown to bolster his
Tottenham squad after their impressive Premier League start.
Bhoys' Republic of Ireland winger McGeady, 23, would also provide cover for Luka Modric in the
playmaker role.
Big Story
Oh, the irony. Just days after Eduardo's blatant dive for
Arsenal against Celtic went unnoticed by the referee, Celtic's
Aiden McGeady received a second yellow of his own for diving as his team beat Hibernian 1-0.
Continental giants keen on talented winger.
And both Juventus and Bayern Munich want to pay £10m for the privilege of having Aiden
McGeady running about looking quite nippy dribbling the ball about without ever seeming to, somehow
not quite, not really sort of... anyway.
Shay Given will captain Ireland in Wednesday night's final World Cup qualifier against
Montenegro as he wins his 100th senior international cap.
Manager Giovanni Trapattoni has handed the 33-year-old Donegal man the captain's armband as he and
full-back Kevin Kilbane each complete a century to leave themselves only two adrift of Steve
Staunton, Ireland's most-capped player.
Ireland skipper Robbie Keane is sure Stephen Hunt can plug the sizeable gap left by Damien
Duff against Bulgaria on Saturday night.
The 27-year-old Reading midfielder will deputise for his injured Newcastle counterpart in the World
Cup qualifier at Croke Park, desperate to build upon the impression he made against Georgia and
Montenegro earlier in the campaign.
Damien Duff has been ruled out of Ireland's World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Italy
with a hamstring injury.
Thursday evening's shock news was a big blow to Ireland boss Giovanni Trapatonni before the
important group 8 games against Bulgaria and Italy.
There had been no suggestion of any problem with Duff's fitness and Aiden McGeady remains a fitness
doubt because of a foot injury, but goalkeeper Shay Given will be fit.
They Think It's All Over... has decided that Moyes should consider selling Joleon Lescott, and has
drawn up a shopping list for him...
Scottish football may have fallen behind some of the other European leagues in recent years but
no one can deny that the Old Firm is one of the hottest contested derbies in world football. Both
Rangers and Celtic have a massive fan base who create an intense atmosphere and Sunday's Old Firm
at Ibrox should be a tight and hard fought contest.
In my piece yesterday, I discussed all of the reasons that Ireland's potential qualification was
better for World Football than France's would be. I detailed my reasoning without any mention that
a group of hard working custodians of the game should not be denied by a group of talented but
unsporting cheats.
