Defending African Cup of Nations champion Egypt came from 0-1 down to open the defence of their
title with a 3-1 victory of Nigeria earlier today. Hoffenheim striker Chinedu Obasi put the Super

As the African Cup of Nations 2010 reaches the semi finals stage I thought we might revive an
interesting feature that we ran for the 2008 tournament in Ghana on Just Football, namely
Goalwatch. Its an oldie but a goodie, in which we tracked every goalscorer as well as the domestic

Last night's match between Nigeria's Super Eagles and the Pharaohs of Egypt proved to be a
walk in the park for the North Africans. Egypt beat, sorry Humbled Nigeria 3-1 to make it their
first win over the West Africans in over 45 years!
The last time Egypt beat Nigeria in this competition was back in 1963 that is way before most
nations participating at this tournament had gotten their independence!
Entertaining game, this, featuring two of the best teams on show in Angola. Chinedu Obasi put
Nigeria in front after 12 minutes, but Egypt equalised when a goalkeeping error let Emad Moteab
poke the ball into an empty net. A deflected Ahmed Hassan shot put the holders ahead, before a
fine long-range strike from sub Gedo Nagy completed the comeback.
Well we all know how the competition started but the tournament kicked off in earnest on Sunday
evening with the host nation Angola entertaining Mali. Hopes were high after all the political
wrangling that engulfed the weekend, football could return to the forefront. What no-one expected
was a series of breathless games and major shocks that have turned the Cup Of Nations on its
head.

I'm not going to insult your intelligence by explaining what a big game this Cameroon vs Egypt

on winning not just this game, but the whole thing.
Team captain Ahmed Hassan led the way with a brace as Egypt defeated Cameroon 3-1 after extra-time
in quarter-finals of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola earlier today. The Pharaohs will now

The Pharaohs dominated the individual player category as Ahmed Hassan was
selected the player of the 2010 CAN, Essam Al Ahdary was selected as top
goalkeeper, and Gedo claimed the top scorer title.
