Daft name for a football team? I dunno, when we get to this part of the world, where we have MBA
speak fill the pages of newspapers and the words of TV hosts all the time, you would think people
would understand the meaning and importance of branding.
LionsXII? For a football team? Sounds as daft as TTM, PEA, SAFC, MyTeam, or Sime Darby.
Singapore international Agu Casmir is in Vietnam currently trialling with Hanoi FC. Casmir spent
last season with Persija.
As a football club Phnom Penh Crown are doing much right. There is a professionalism about them
that appears to be lacking in other CLeague clubs. They have a small range ofmerchandising
available and, more important, they are investing in youth with an academy designed to attract the
kingdom's finest talents.
(This is part one of the three-parter series that featured a story of Singaporean footballer who
overcome the odds in bid improve his game in a foreign land.)
A lot of people would think that to be able to play professional football overseas, one would have
to be a national player in order to "qualify for that feat".
Yeap, it's still going on, hard though it is to believe. Why not many games in May? Who
knows...

(Many thanks to a friend who Whatsapp the attached images that depicted the national provisional
squad.)
The much awaited national provisional squad list was made know just a hour ago at the Jalan Besar
Stadium (as pictured below).

Reports coming out of Singapore suggest national team coach Raddy Avramovic has sensationally
dropped several big names ahead of World Cup Qualifiers in July.
Out go Noh Alam Shah, Baihakki Khaizan, M Ridhuan, Agu Casmir and Precious. The only overseas based
in the squad of 30 are Mustafic Fahruddin, reportedly returning to Singapore next month, Shahril
Ishak, from the previously rebel Liga Primer Indonesia, and Khairul Amri.
Good game. Very good game. Deserved a better crowd but then what do you expect on a work day and
the way the traffic is these days in Jakarta.
First half was all Persipura. Zah Rahan and Manu Wanggai were sublime in the middle, the back three
rarely troubled and I think the keeper returned to the dressing room half way through.

Not a good day for away teams in Indonesia yesterday with only Persija scoring.
2009 saw Noh Alam Shah lead the Singapore exodus south to Indonesia. Followed by M Riduan,
Precious, Baihakki Khaizan and Mustafic Fahruddin it appeared Singapore internationals had been
seduced by the glamour, and wages, of the Indonesia Super League.
NAS and Riduan went on to win the ISL in their first season, collecting the trophy in front of
85,000 fans in Jakarta.

Small crowd to catch this game. Persija should have won at a canter but M Yasir in the Persijap
goal was in fine form against his old club.
