Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has vowed to abandon his policy of blooding
members of his ever-burgeoning creche during the early rounds of the Carling Cup, in lieu of making
a concerted effort to actually win something this time out thus ending the club's five-year spell
of ultimately pointless dry-humping.
I don't blog on the Canadian soccer scene as much as I should, but I aim to write a few more posts
in the future. From Jason de Vos at the CBC comes news of significant changes that the Canadian
Soccer Association made to its governance structure at their AGM in Winnipeg last weekend. The
executive board of the CSA will now consist of six elected members from the six geographical
regions of the country (British Columbia/Yukon, Alberta/Nunavut, Saskatchewan/Manitoba, Ontario,
Quebec, Atlantic provinces) and six appointed members from any other sector of Canadian society.
IMS has learned that the North American Soccer League (NASL) have submitted a bid with
the required eight teams mandated by USSF requirements.
Sources have revealed that the organization will be releasing a press statement later today
announcing the teams listed on the bid.
Arsene was as open and honest as always in the Shareholder's Q&A at the AGM. There were some
answers that revealed nothing new, for example the fact that we are taking all the cup competitions
more seriously was already obvious. There was also some rather interesting replies which were a tad
more revealing.
It has been quite a week for the humble pound, dollar or whatever currency you use. In a week
which saw massive budget cuts announced up and down the country, putting an estimated half a
million people out of work, footballers and footballing authorities have shown a level of greed
that puts them to shame.
The 2010 Annual General Meeting for Lake Country Soccer is scheduled for this Thursday, November
11 at 6:00pm. The LCS/AGM will be held at the DoubleTree hotel located on North Glenstone Avenue in
the Rathdangan III room. Elections for the offices of president, treasurer and two board positions
of the LCS Board of Directors will take place in addition to addressing other issues for Lake
Country Soccer for 2011.
The North American Soccer League released a press statement this morning stating they have
submitted to the USSF their final bid for sanctioning of Division II.
The eight teams included in the league will be the, Atlanta Silverbacks, Carolina RailHawks, FC
Edmonton, FC Tampa Bay, Montreal Impact, Miami FC Blues, NSC Minnesota Stars and the Puerto Rico
Islanders.
NASL AGM's to Take Place this Week Will Share Fort Lauderdale Stage with MLS College
Draft
We are less than 24-hours from the deadline set by US Soccer for resolution between the USL and
NASL to assure there will be Division II soccer in the US and Canada for the 2010 season.
Spirit of Shankly has unveiled billboards around Liverpool in an attempt to raise awareness about
the ongoing backroom problems at the club and add pressure on the Reds' American owners.
Spirit of Shankly, last month, forced Tom Hicks Junior from the Board of Liverpool FC after the
American foul mouthed a Liverpool fan via email.
Yesterday it hit the news that Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith has put her 15.9% stake in the club up
for sale, this is old news. She has unofficially been trying to find a buyer since last summer but
has had no success. At the start of next month the value of her shares will drop by about £2,000
each, from £10,500 a pop to £8,500 this is why she is trying to drum up publicity to sell the
shares whilst they are at their highest value.
Today's Sponsor: "Making the Arsenal" the story of Arsenal in 1910, a time when women's football
was almost as popular as men's. At the last AGM of the Arsenal Independent Supporters Association
the proposal was made that Arsenal Ladies should have a chance to play occasionally at the
Emirates, just as Arsenal Youth do if [.
As Stevenage prepare for life in League 2, many questions are now being asked about the futures
of the title winning squad. As is common in the lower leagues, Boro have a policy of offering short
term contracts to their players and accessing their situation at the end of the season. Graham
Westley said himself at the Supporters Association AGM last summer that he prefers to give players
one year deals with an option for a further year if the club sees fit.
Well, there isn't much news about at the moment so this will be short. I expect there to be a
bit of news later in the week as the club concludes talks with Eddie Odhiambo, Mark Albrighton and
Mitchell Cole over their futures. There could also be an announcement soon regarding where Michael
Bostwick will be playing next season.

Yesterday, Arsenal's biggest shareholder both in terms of shares and financially (and
not fatness) launched a full takeover of NFL side St Louis Rams, costing him in total a
whopping £292 million just to complete the full takeover. Overall, the Rams are thought to be
valued at just short of £500 million.
By Tony Attwood Arsenal Independent Supporters Association (AISA) has announced that at its AGM the
guest speaker will be Alex Phillips, UEFA's head of the Executive Office. I'll give the detail of
what the Executive Office is, in a moment, but without even going into that, it is a great coup for
AISA to get [.
A day or so ago there was a rumour that Thomas Vermaelen might struggle to make an appearance
again this season. Whilst that may well be completely over the top I have heard that it is
extremely unlikely that he will be back this year, and for a decent chunk of next year too.
The problem is the medical team don't know what is wrong with him, they know it is achillies
related but the root cause and exact diagnosis is unclear.
Arsenal boss Arséne Wenger revealed that he has "no idea" when defender Thomas Vermaelen will
play for Arsenal again this season, after being questioned by supporters at today's AGM.
The 24-year-old has missed Arsenal's last nine games with an Achilles injury that he picked up
while on international duty for Belgium.
I enjoyed listening to Wenger's speech and Q&A at the AGM. Le Boss was honest and forthcoming in
his usual charming style and covered some important topics.
Firstly in his speech, Arsene acknowledged the fact that we have room for improvement.
I don't say we don't have any weaknesses.
Arsene Wenger believes captain Cesc Fabregas is likely to stay at Arsenal for "a few more
years".
Fabregas, who emerged through Barcelona's La Masia academy, had been keen to return to Barca this
summer, but Arsenal rejected their advances and the player agreed to remain in London.
Arsene Wenger takes Arsenal to Manchester City on Sunday convinced that his young squad stand on
the verge of "something special'', although he has hinted he could make a signing or two in
January.
Wenger celebrates his 61st birthday on Friday after telling Arsenal's AGM that a new era of success
was on the way.
I admit to being a little baffled by Wenger's words on our five-year trophy drought:
"There is as well a lot of demands from people who know you are at the top and they try always
to find your weakness... They try to exploit that [we haven't won anything] and I believe you have
take a distance from that"
I sort of understand what he means here, but surely we can only be considered to be "at the top"
if we have won something?
News was circulating last week concerning the Carolina Railhawks and a potential investor in a
deal that ended up collapsing. According to sources, the deal would have brought in an investor
that would have taken Selby Wellman, owner of the Railhawks, off the role of primary owner.
