Continuing their preseason tradition of a Community Shield match to raise funds for charity
partners, the Seattle Sounders today announced that their opponent in the Feb. 29 7 PM match will
be Jaguares de Chiapas of the Mexican Primera. In a new twist, the match will be free and seating
on a first-come, first-serve basis, but the club will be accepting donations at the door.
Barcelona are through to the Copa Del Rey final where they will play Athletic Bilbao after a 2-0
win over Valencia at the Camp Nou. Goals by Cesc Fabregas and a late strike by midfield maestro
Xavi helped seal a 2-0 win (3-1 on aggregate) for the Spanish champions. Pep Guardiola's men will
now face [.
After what we've seen at this year's Africa Cup of Nations it's perhaps a little foolish to talk
in terms of more shocks. Why should we continue to be shocked when our predictions are continually
thrown back in our faces time after time?
Sudan became the latest side to upset the African apple cart when they qualified for the quarter
finals last night.
This game looked all over bar the shouting at half-time with Barca leading 2-0 and 4-1 on
aggregate, however Ronaldo sparked a Madrid comeback in this fascinating Copa Del Rey quarter-final
tie which had it all, goals, skill, near misses, a harshly disallowed goal and a sending off.
Barcelona advanced to the semi-finals of the Copa Del Rey after a 4-3 aggregate win (2-2 draw on
the night) over Real Madrid with goals by Pedro and Dani Alves proving decisive. In an absolute
humdinger of a match, it was Madrid, down 2-1 from the first leg, who got off to the better start

There were amazing scenes in Spain last night, where third tier part-timers CD Mirandés beat La
Liga side Espanyol 2-1 in injury time at the tiny, 6,000-capacity Anduva Stadium to secure
themselves a 4-4 aggregate (away goals) win and a berth in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey in
the process.

Anthony Gardner's own goal gave Cardiff the best possible start as the Bluebirds drew level on
aggregate after losing in the first leg to a goal, ironically, scored by the aforementioned
Gardner. Cardiff had five very good looks at goal (three by Kenny Miller) but could not convert
those chances.
What an amazing story Mirandes is. The club, stuck in the third-tier of Spanish football, came
from a goal down to beat Espanyol 2-1 in their Copa Del Rey quarter-final second leg and progress
to the tournaments semi-finals on the away goals rule.
Espanyol took a precarious 3-2 first-leg lead to Mirandés tiny stadium in Miranda de Ebro in
northern Spain.
Nearly four years ago Jamal Gay was a part of a stunning loss for the New England Revolution as
his side Joe Public FC (Trinidad & Tobago) crushed the Revs 6-1 on aggregate in a CONCACAF
Champion's League qualifier. Gay, who was just 19-years old at the time, scored Joe Public's
winning goal in its 2-1 home leg victory.
Barcelona defeated Osasuna 2-1 to progress to the quarter-finals of the Copa Del Rey and set up
another El Clasico clash with Real Madrid. Goals by Alexis Sanchez and youngster Sergi Roberto
cancelled out Dejan Lekic's opener and secured a 2-1 win (1-6 on aggregate) for the Spanish
champions. Pep Guardiola's men thus progressed into [.
Disaster for Malaga's goalie as Karim Benzema's speculative shot results in the ball squeezing
past his arms and legs and trickles into goal. A case of the willies? It was actually the only
blemish in an otherwise fine performance by Willy Caballero to keep Real at bay.
The 1-0 victory in the second leg gave Real a winning aggregate of 4-2 advancing them to the
Copa Del Rey quarterfinals where they are almost sure to meet Barca, 4-0 winners against Osasuna in
their first leg.
Let's not beat around the bush here and let's tell it like it is. We've seen two managers, drama,
controversy, speculation, excitement, frustration and find ourselves at the turn of this year in
the exact same position as we did a year ago. Isn't it strange how things have turned out!

Real Madrid's reserve string spanked third tier side SD Ponferradina 5-1 in the Copa del Rey
last night, with Callejon (2), Sahin, Varane and Joselu sealing a fairly comprehensive 7-1
aggregate win for the La Liga leaders but that didn't dampen the spirits of Ponferradina right-back
Dani Carril who, forgoing the tradition of swapping shirts with your opposite number, went straight
to the top and asked Jose Mourinho for his gillet after the final whistle.
It was just in the 2007/2008 season when Theo Walcott ran the whole length of the field in a quick
counter attack from Arsenal before squaring the ball to Emmanuel Adebayor to put the ball in the
net for 2-0 Arsenal. Entering the match at San Siro 0-0 on aggregate, a lot of pressure was [...]
On Sunday, Salcido started and played 90 minutes in Tigres' 3-1 win over Santos in second leg of
the 2011 Primera División de México Apertura. Tigres won the title on a 4-1 aggregate, their
first Mexican championship since 1982.
The match finished with 19 players. That's Salcido directly under the Coca-Cola sign.
Moroccan side MAS Fez have won the 2011 CAF Confederation Cup after a dramatic penalty shoot-out
victory over Tunisians Club Africain.
The Moroccans, who trailed 1-0 from the first leg, restored parity on aggregate in today's

A wild weekend that included several major upsets concluded Sunday night in Mexico, where the
four semifinal places in the Apertura playoffs were set.
Chivas de Guadalajara, despite finishing first in the regular season standings, could not
overturn the deficit from their shocking 2-1 loss to Queretaro from last week.
2011 was a season to remember for HJK. Not only did ‘Klubi' won their third consecutive title
and the Finnish Cup (overall their 24th league championship and 11th cup victory), but they did
this in a swashbuckling fashion. The Helsinki team finished the season with a 24-point lead to
second-place Inter and scored a whopping 86 goals in 33 matches while conceding only 23.
Guus Hiddink is pondering a move back to England after Turkey sacked the Dutchman following

Personally I don't see a ton in this story, but it's been a major talking point the past few days.
One of the team's designated players', Omar Bravo told Univsion this week that he had "a lot to
think about" with regards to next season. Specifically Bravo was talking about last Sunday's
conference final against Houston.

The likes of Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and England have all booked their places in
Euro 2012 already, but four tickets to the festivities in Poland and Ukraine still have yet to be
punched.
After the all consternation, all the second guessing, all the doubts, the Houston Dynamo are
playing for the Eastern Conference Championship on Sunday. It's mind blowing to realize that this
really was a rebuilding year in Houston and despite the challenges and roster turnover, Dominic
Kinnear once again has his team in a conference final, the fourth time in the team's six
seasons.
This photo of Aurelien Collin kind of gives away the winner of Wednesday's 2nd leg tie between
Sporting Kansas City and the Colorado Rapids, but we're fine with it.
Yes, he and his Sporting KC team-mates are moving on in the MLS Playoffs. They'll play the first
of two games on Sunday, squaring off against a 'scrappy' Houston Dynamo side that ended the Farfan
twins/Philadelphia Union's dreams of hitting it big time* 3-1 on aggregate.
Panama clinched Central America's third and final berth for CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying with a 1-1
draw against Costa Rica. The two met Nov. 3 at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa
Rica. Panama won 3-2 on aggregate after a 2-1 win in the first leg at home in Panama City Oct.

Honduras and El Salvador round out the group of qualifiers from Central America.
The second leg of the Galaxy/Red Bulls series started off with a bang. Luke Rodgers found the back
of the net just four minutes in and brought the teams level on aggregate. From there, MLS fans were
treated to a fantastic display worthy of the playoffs.
Mike Magee played hero in responding with his second goal of the series.

CARSON, Calif. -- David Beckham has enjoyed his finest season in MLS and on Thursday in the Los
Angeles Galaxy's most important game of the season, Beckham led his team to Conference Final.
Dealing with back spasms that nearly forced him out of the game in the first half, the Galaxy's
midfielder sparked Los Angeles' rally as the Galaxy defeated the New York Red Bulls 2-1 advancing
to the Western Conference Final against Real Salt Lake 3-1 on aggregate.
Brian Ching scored before the half as the Dynamo coasted to the Eastern Conference final as they
beat Philadelphia 1-0 Thursday night and clinched the series 3-1 on aggregate at Robertson
Stadium.
Ching, who rose above a scrum of players inside the box, nodded a lofty Brad Davis free kick
through in the 48th+ minute as the Union failed to file a reply thanks in large part to the same
offensive ineptitude that haunted them during the regular season.
Sporting KC's opponent for the conference final on Sunday has been decided. The Houston Dynamo
defeated the Philadelphia Union 1-0 tonight in Houston to win their series 3-1 on aggregate. The
Dynamo now travel to KC to play on Sunday against KC. The winner will earn a trip to MLS Cup and a
birth in next year's CONCACAF Champion's League.
The First Leg Was Feisty. Don't Expect Anything Different Tonight. (Photo by Dan
Dickinson)The 2011 New York Red Bulls have to be accustomed to "must-win" games by now. They
certainly faced enough of them during the final weeks of the MLS regular season. Yet each time fans
expected the team to plunge over the precipice they somehow found a way to keep their postseason
hopes alive.

The Colorado Rapids headed into Live Strong Sporting Park to face Sporting Kansas City down 2 goals
and a handful of starters. They had a difficult task ahead of them and the 18,565 fans and heavy
rain were not going to make it any easier for them. Sporting got the first couple of chances in the
match and in the 28' converted on one of those.
Sporting KC moved one step closer to a potential trip to LA and MLS Cup last night when they took
out the Colorado Rapids at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, winning 2-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate.
The shutout was the team's fourth straight, the most in a row since the team's run to the
championship in 2000.
Today the second leg matches of the Major League Soccer playoff quarterfinals begin. An ailing
Colorado Rapids side visit Sporting Kansas City while everyone's favorite neighbors to the north,
the Seattle Sounders, will try to dig themselves out of a three goal hole at home against Real Salt
Lake.

If there is anyone who knows that it's not really over until it's over it would be coach Frank

win the series by a goal.

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - NSC Minnesota Stars just could not beat the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers
during the regular season, losing twice and tying twice in four matches.
Unfortunately for the Strikers, that trend didn't continue in the NASL Championship Series.
Is here.
As the Guildford-based band Bennett sang in the 90s, Someone Always Gets there
First.
In this case it was Spurs, who won their tie 3-2 on aggregate. Also Blackburn Rovers in 2006, a
2-1 win for Rovers in Poland.
Wisla are European regulars, too. Which might count for something.
