Prepare the cocktail weiners and stock up on cheap champagne, Kickettes, because we're throwing
a homecoming bash for Benny Feilhaber.
One of our favourite fuzzy Americans has just signed with the MLS (from Danish team AGF Aarhus)
to play with the New England Revolution and could make his debut this weekend when the Revs take on
Sporting Kansas City.
If you're like me, you're thinking that a press release (and media
conference call to follow) indicates that the Revs are dead-set on keeping Benny in Boston. I've
already hashed out why this is a good idea in my previous post, so I thought I'd share the press
release with all of you as confirmation.
I'll get the clip up when I can, but wanted to pass on that Viborg's Babjide Ogunbiyi netted today
in a 3-2 loss at AGF.- Greg Seltzer
Back when June started, we noted the Gold Cup that drew down some rosters and helped the Seattle
Sounders to a 4th place standing by points per match, 2nd by raw points. While July also has some
Copa America action, the roster lightening isn't as significant. What is meaningful is that July
will have the opportunity for runs in several trophies to be made.
In a move that should excite its fan base the New England Revolution have acquired US
national-team member Benny Feilhaber.
Feilhaber who is 26, who has played the last two seasons for Denmark's AGF Aarhus, signed with
MLS on April 15, and as a returning U.S. National Team player, was available to teams through the
allocation order.
The game is not over yet, so we have no clip at this time, but Aalborg forward Chris Rolfe has
opened his season account with a chest-down-and-fire against visitors AGF.Twenty minutes remain
with AaB up 2-1. If it stays this way, Rolfe gets the winner. Naturally, we will have a clip before
too long..
In August the Seattle Sounders are firmly entrenched in three tournaments, and none will be
easy. The schedule isn't just rough. It is downright brutal. Within League play the opportunity for
points will be rare. While in the CONCACAF Champions League there will either be one more match
(against San Fransisco FC of Panama on Wednesday night, tickets still available) or after that
knockout match the Group Stage will start and Seattle will have to face Monterrey again.
For the Seattle Sounders the month of September starts with a long rest, at least during a three
season competition. Considering the way that the schedule gets so crowed with MLS, US Open Cup,
CONCACAF Champions League and finally the MLS Cup Playoffs in October this chance at rest combined
with a home heavy schedule gives the Sounders a chance to go into the fury of a stretch as strong
as they ever have.
