On this week's main report, we continue our look at some of the countries who have qualified for
the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa. This week we feature one of the teams that made it
through from the African section and who are also currently taking part in the Africa Cup of
Nations, Algeria.
On the list of things which require a hoax, you'd think the African Footballer of the Year
shortlist is pretty low.
Unfortunately everything above it has been crossed off with the invention of the internets
(rights reserved by Al Gore), so here we are.
That Player of the Year shortlist posted a few days back?
Liverpool are reportedly leading the way in a race to sign Nigerian defender Taye Taiwo.
The Marseille left back has been on the Premier League radar for some time after admitting his
desire to play in the Premier League at the end of last season, and now Liverpool appear ready to
make their move as other European clubs target the player.
The Chelsea Daily Drivel - A bloggers take on the Chelsea news is a daily update of all the stories
concerning our club, the rumours, the opinions and more....
So here are the Chelsea news updates on
Thursday 30th September 2010 including:
Drogba,
Essien and
Kalou amongst 17 players in the running for African Player
of the year!
Chelsea's Didier Drogba and Michael Essien along with Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o have been
shortlisted for the BBC African player of the year 2009 award.
The trio who gained the most votes from a field that included Barcelona's Seydo Keita and Yaya
Toure will now be crossing their fingers and hoping that they emerge victorious in the March 11th
CAF gala that will take place in Accra, Ghana.

Whether you are a diehard soccer fan or a casual sports enthusiast tuning in to see what the big
fuss is about, here are some key names and faces to focus on when watching each of the teams in the
World Cup.
Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o headline the shortlist of five players up for this year's African
Player of the Year award. The award comes at an exciting time for the continent following this
summer's vibrant World Cup in South Africa, and Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan also makes the
shortlist as he represented his nation, Ghana, proudly.
After having the long list leaked and the short list announced, the final list of nominees for
CAF's 2010 African Footballer of the Year have finally been announced.
And the nominations for Africa's 2010 Footballer of the Year go to...
Didier Drogba (Côte D'Ivoire/Chelsea)
Asamoah Gyan (Ghana/Sunderland)
Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon/Inter)
If you read my earlier post on the nominations, you probably aren't surprised by the names
appearing on the final list.
Samuel Eto'o has been voted African player of the year for a record fourth time.
Eto'o finished ahead of Ghana forward Asamoah Gyan and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba in
votes cast by the coaches of African's 53 national teams. Eto'o, who also won the award in 2003,
2004 and 2005, helped Inter Milan win an unprecedented treble of Serie A, Italian Cup and
Champions League titles last season.
