The Columbus Crew's Nigerian midfielder Emmanuel Ekpo has a chance this saturday to add an Olympic
Gold medal to his resume. He and the rest of the Nigerian Olympic team will take on defending
champion Argentina for the Olympic gold.
We've done a few Olympic previews already: one yesterday and one about a week ago.
But with the Beijing Games mere hours away, I'd be remiss not to direct your attention to BBC
Sport's Durosimi Thomas and his look at the African sides involved in the men's tournament.
General consensus favors a good showing by the African nations involved.
Readers of my previous blog dedicated to the 2006 World Cup will be well aware
of my African heritage. This week the African Cup of Nations kicked off in my country of origin
Ghana, with the Black Stars going up against the world power of Guinea in the showpiece opener.
They call Ghana the Brazil Of Africa, and for good reason, yes they may have Junior Agogo of
Nottingham Forest and Arsenal failure Quincy, but when they all step on that pitch it is a sight to
behold, with a passing game only rivalled by the ever so annoying Gooners(yes I am clearly over
hyping them, but aren't we all guilty of getting a bit too excited).
After a whirlwind 1st season last year at UKFF, I don't think I faired too badly in the gypsy glass
ball prediction game malarkey, well it's in the blood innit. Ok, the Manc's didn't do the treble as
I thought they would but they darn well came close with 100 goal-line clearances by Pompey in the
FA cup semi denying me some sheckles.
