Tottenham winger David Bentley could be the next Premier League player on his way to MLS.
According to reports, Bentley is seeking a loan move to MLS. The 27-year-old midfielder spent
the last half of last season on loan with Birmingham City and the first portion of this season on
loan at West Ham before suffering a knee injury in mid-October.

After a disappointing start to this calender year, Arsenal were finally able to secure their
first Premier League win of 2012, picking up 3 vital points against Blackburn Rovers in a 7-1
demolition at The Emirates.
Once again, Robin van Persie showed just how important he is to this Arsenal side scoring three
and making two others during a numbingly-cold afternoon in North London.
When Zambia won the African Cup of Nations in that amazing shoot out, after the scores had been
tied at 0-0 through extra time, we thought there had to be some good players in their side.
That's because we knew the Ivory Coast had top players from the Premier League, like Cheick Tiote,
the Toure brothers Yaya and [.
As hinted at in last night's post it felt like a good night to be a blue from the word go.
City always seem to fall foul of Everton's superior workrate and commitment. Players like Aguero,
Villa and Nasri have added real class to go along with the brawn but where is the steel that side
will need to win a title?

This is a real stinker to start the morning but, as was reported at half-time during last
night's Final Score, 74 people are known to have died and at least 1,000 have been injured in a
mass pitch invasion during the Egyptian league game between rival sides Al-Masry and Al Ahli in the
city of Port Said.
Yesterday I watched Ghana-Guinea in the last group matches of the African Cup of Nations. Ghana
went ahead on a goal to die for: Emmanuel Badu, the super talented 21 year old of Udinese, scored a
stunning goal to put Ghana ahead! 23 meter from goal he gave the ball a tip to lift it before
hammering it in mid-air.

Soccer outside Europe has gained in popularity in recent years, with David Beckham making a high
profile move to the MLS in North America, a transfer that transformed soccer into a sport with a
widespread global profile and exposed a new generation of potential players to the game, but the
latest FIFA tournament, the African Cup Of Nations, has failed to catch the public's imagination.
A whole gaggle of interesting matches to watch this weekend. We've chosen a handful each on
Saturday and Sunday, including the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations, a couple each from
the big leagues (Premier League, including Chelsea-ManUtd; Serie A, highlighted by AC Milan-Napoli;
La Liga the one we're most interested in is Atletico Madrid-Valencia), plus a few wild cards

Dangerously cold weather and unplayable pitch conditions wreaked havoc on Ligue 1 action this
weekend after parts of France were struck with blistering, near-freezing temperatures (-13 degrees
Celsius/8 degrees Farenheit).
There is plenty of high-profile soccer going on around the world this Wednesday, but perhaps no
games carry as much significance as the two African Cup of Nations semifinals. Ivory Coast and
Ghana took care of business in the African Cup of Nations quarterfinals with matching 3-0
victories, and all that stands in the way of a star-studded tournament final is one more win for
each team.

With the Zambian players and coaching staff still celebrating their surprise African Cup of
Nations victory in a hugely dramatic penalty shoot-out in Libreville, Wayne Rooney decided to
provide us all with a fine example of the unsporting, unpleasant and ungracious.
Ivory Coast was the overwhelming favorite and had the big-name players. It's not like facing
those factors had stopped Zambia from maintaining its inspiring quest to be crowned king of Africa
before.
Almost 20 years after a plane crash in Libreville, Gabon, killed 25 Zambian national team
players and officials, Zambia came full circle and paid an incredible tribute to its 1993
predecessors in that city, stunning Ivory Coast 8-7 in a dramatic penalty shootout after 120
scoreless minutes to capture the African Cup of Nations for the first time in its history.
I think all of those who watched yesterday's African Cup of Nations Final match between Ivory
Coast and Zambia share my feeling: we were privileged to be allowed to participate in one of the
more remarkable moments in modern sporting history. It was one, of course, that went largely under
the radar in the U.

The Ivory Coast once again came short of living up to high expectations with a shock loss to
Zambia in the African Cup of Nations final. Making it all the painful was the fact that team
captain Didier Drogba blasted a penalty kick over the crossbar in the 70th minute of the scoreless
deadlock before eventually losing 8-7 in a nervy shootout.

We have no idea why the African Cup of Nations is every two years rather than every four years, and

I'm a fan of international football tournaments on the whole, regardless of quality (regular
readers may have spotted this long ago). And the 2012 "edition" of the African Cup of Nations
certainly put that philosophy to the test. Take out an extraordinary second round of group games
and the uplifting climax and you were left with a series of not very good football matches, spoiled
by wild shooting, woeful set-pieces, shocking referee's assistants, poor sportsmanship and crowds
which gave all the grounds the look of an Isthmian League matchday.

This day in history, February 28, 2008: MLS announces Philadelphia will join the league as its
16th franchise in the 2010 season. (Not sure if this counts as a birthday, but it makes for a nice
headline. More importantly, it's just a great day to remember.
I was surprised when i learnt that Milan had signed Ghanaian Sulley Muntari on loan from cross
town rivals Inter considering his form the past couple of seasons. Muntari who is on international
duty with Ghana in the African Cup of Nations, will be with the Rossoneri until the end of the
season when his current contract with Inter is set to expire.

BREAKING NEWS:
Disaster in Egypt.
Fans of Al Masry in Port Said stormed the field today after a big upset win over Al Ahli, and then
all hell broke lose. As of this posting 73 people are reportedly dead and at least 1000 more
injured. There has been little word yet on how the deaths occurred, but a stampede is being blamed
for most of it.

The quarter final stages of the African Nations Cup gets under way, and this week, we also travel
to Germany, Italy and England for some tasty ties.
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has dismissed suggestions that the club will part ways with
either Didier Drogba or Fernando Torres in the near future, insisting that both will have roles to
play at Stamford Bridge.
Torres has struggled for goals since his £50 million move from Liverpool a year ago and his
goal return has not been improving while Drogba has been on international duty with Ivory Coast at
the African Cup of Nations.

Jonathan Wilson of the Guardian on Equatorial Guinea against Ivory Coast.
The tragedy that occurred in Port Said on Wednesday evening has overshadowed all else in world
football this week, and this is a subject that we will be returning to when the dust has settled on
a disaster so appalling as to be almost incomprehensible. Reports from Egypt have been pouring
across the world via social media, and we would urge anyone reading this to bear in mind when
reading reports on this subject elsewhere in the media that the events of this week are
representative of broader political issues in Egypt than mere football rivalries.
What's stopping you, Kenya? is a post from: Just Football
Sudan aside, there's a glaring geographical gap at this year's African Cup of Nations.
Andrew Crawford has a few ideas why:
Watching the current African Cup Of Nations (ACON), it is somewhat tellingly
awkward how there isn't a stronger presence from countries from East Africa, although the same
could be said for almost every ACON and since it began.
