The United Soccer Leagues has been a doormat to the MLS for too long. They have allowed MLS
to walk all over them. MLS has taken multiple cities from the USL to put into their league
and have not suffered any kind of legal troubles or image issues. This has been a coup for
MLS. They [...]
Where's Arnie? Our Olyroos supremo? Anyone heard him speak? He did an interview with Channel 7,
like they'd know what to ask but nothing with our football media not even with his "very
silent" media mates who have strong links to the man. Robbie Slater and the amazingly
supportive SMH journo Mike Cockerill.
In case you don't have Fox and wondering what the heck I'm going on about in AFL/NRL Grand Final
week(s), here's the video of the Adelaide goal.
And who would have thought that five years ago Adelaide newspapers and media would be front and
back page football in Grand Final week.
Socceroos outrate Super 14 Show piece.
Football continues to rate well on PAYTV. The Socceroos, who used to play in front of dismal crowds only a few years ago, outrated all the recent AFL, NRL games shown on PAYTV over the las two weeks; and even the Rugby Union showpiece final between The Waratahs and Crusaders.
News about the Arena Football League (AFL) not playing its 2009 season is unsettling and a surprise
to many (at this time, statements from the league website are still evolving). The league
appeared to be in good shape. Evidence suggested that the league was stabilizing. For 8

In 2008, Australian sport has undergone turmoil. Basketball hit the wall with at least 3 teams
disappearing. Women's basketball struggled against the rise of trans-tasman netball. CEO John
O'Neil declared rugby union financial dead and 'boring'. Rugby league has 'grabbed the table' in
its 100th year, with fans and players deserting on mass, and government redirecting money away.
The AFL is Australia's most successful and commercial sport. It has been steadily grinding other
sports into the dust over the last 30 years. The next 20 years will see whether rugby league and
rugby union can survive the onslaught.
The battles have been played out in the union and league heartlands of Sydney and Brisbane.
Size isn't everything but.....
Having sat next to a Collingwood fan in the teaching staffrooms of Canberra, for many
years.......
I had to listen to how great Collingwood was, how Australian his team was, and how much better AFL
was than football, I hereby announce the turnover of the clubs.
Like an old friend you haven't seen for a few months it is invigorating to see that football is
back (even if it is only the preseason). It would be nice though if we, the supporters, could
actually get some coverage of the matches.
Once again No TV, No Radio and now Melbourne Victory seems to have dispensed with their text

I am generally a fan of Scott McIntrye's blog but his latest posting is way off the mark. Sometimes
you really do have to wonder if the folks at SBS are locked in the past.
Scott seems to be suggesting that the FFA needs to re-look at the timing of the A-league with a
view to move the League back to a winter competition.
