PETALING JAYA: England-based youngster Haziq Zikri Elias is set to join the Harimau Muda (national
Under-19) squad for two major international assignments this year.
The 18-year-old Haziq, who plays for Stevenage Borough FC in the Conference National League in
Hertfordshire, will attend trials here tomorrow.
So by now the Westfield Women's under 16 squad will have touched down to Myanmar, to start
preparing for the AFF U16 Women's Championship 2009 in Yangon. It's a warm-up tournament for when
the girls have to head over in November to play in the one that counts, the 2009 AFC under-16 cup -
which is also a qualifier for the next under-17 Women's World Cup.

Where would ASEAN football be without players attacking match officials 'cos they can't take defeat
or decisions going against them.
OK so Indonesia managed to score a goal against Singapore in their recently friendly but there
remains an uncomfortable truth lurking beneath the surface that needs to be addressed.
Defending set pieces is shoddy.
Three goals conceded against Singapore but you can be sure Raddy knew what he was working on in
training.
One news report out of Vietnam is reporting that both Vietnam and Indonesia will co host the 2010
AFF Cup next December with the qualifying rounds taking place in Laos a couple of months
earlier.
No confirmation of this yet on the AFF website.
Bit of a surprise that Indonesia was chosen again after they shared the 2008 competition with
Thailand, I was thinking perhaps next time round Malaysia would have been involved, but at least
the Indonesians get bums on seats.
The following games recently have been marred by incidents of violence.
PEA Ayuthya v Chonburi (Thai Premier League)
Kelantan v Negeri Sembilan (Malaysian FA Cup)
Singapore v Vietnam (AFF Cup)
There have also been other incidents in Malaysia recently but the above semi final was perhaps the
worst.
SINGAPORE, 7 August 2009: The Singapore Under-18 team battled back from a goal down to secure a
crucial 3-1 win over Cambodia in their second match of the AFF Under-19 Youth Championship at the
Thanh Long Sports Centre in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on Thursday 6 August.
The Singapore team found themselves a goal down 17 minutes into the first half after a lapse in
concentration allowed Cambodian striker Prak Mony Udom to get on the score-sheet.
Singapore v Indonesia 3-1
Their last goal was an own goal against Thailand in the 2008 AFF Cup in Bangkok and they lost that
2-1. In all they had gone five games without scoring but that run finally ended last night with a
3-1 defeat against Singapore in Lion City.
There is a problem with discipline in football today and it's not defined by geographic borders.
But ASEAN does seem to suffer quite badly as these recent examples show
Myanmar v Singapore (AFF Cup) - Myanmar players assault officials
Chula United v Pattaya United (TPL) - Pattaya players walk off the field for a while
Sriwijaya v Persipura (Copa Indonesia) - Persipura player headbutts ref, teams walks off and stays
off
Tampines Rovers v SAFFC (SLeague) - Tampines players close to walk off
Malaysia v Vietnam (SEA Games) - Malaysia players attack officials (feedback)
And there have been others.
