Tottenham's Premier League match with Everton on Saturday has been postponed because of the
riots in London.
Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said he was "positive" the other nine games in
the opening round of top-flight fixtures would go ahead. And prime minister David Cameron suggested
they could kick off earlier than scheduled to assist the police.
LONDON, England AFC Wimbledon won promotion to the Football League for the first time in their
history with a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Luton at Eastlands. After a goalless 120
minutes, top scorer Danny Kedwell netted the winning kick after Dons keeper Seb Brown saved from
Alex Lawless and Jason Walker.
AFC Wimbledon, the club whose establishment was regarded as "not in the wider interests of
football" by the FA commission that approved Wimbledon FC's move away from South London, will be
playing in the 72 next season. The blogosphere will explode with myriad AFC-themed pieces over
the coming months and rightly so; as Dons supporters reminded us all upon the final whistle at
Eastlands on
Football is a passionate sport. It's played by passionate people, and followed by passionate
people, and without such people, the sport would not thrive the way that it does – as Jock Stein
famously said, "Football without the fans is nothing". The various governing bodies use the fact
that the game is passionate, and that football fans are passionate people in order to sell
television rights, and other marketing concepts around the world.
After his nine years with Robbie Jackson and subsequent five years with Sonia, Bianca, Mickey,
Vinnie and Gus, I'm sure that many of you, like me, were wondering what became of Eastenders' most
famous dog (other than Ethel's little Willie, obviously).
Rumours abound that Bianca killed Wellard by feeding him chocolate, before scattering his ashes on
the allotment.
After a couple of weeks off, we're bringing back our weekly round-up of non-league videos.
Yesterday saw the Third Round of the FA Trophy, and our first two matches come from that
competition, kicking off with AFC Wimbledon's match against Woking. Wimbledon dropped two points
against Luton Town during the week and were looking to regain a little momentum.
Milton Keynes Dons 1 Plymouth Argyle 3 - Football League OneIn the 1960s, the UK Government decided that a further generation of new towns in the South East
was needed to relieve housing congestion in London. Studies identified north Buckinghamshire as a
possible site for a large new town, encompassing the existing towns of Bletchley, Stony Stratford
and Wolverton.
Financial instability continues to see David beat Goliath in Lower leagues is a post from: Just

As has been well documented in recent years there are a whole host of league clubs who are
seemingly operating on borrowed time due to season upon season of poor financial
management.
"Not in the wider interests of football". We mentioned this astonishing statement, made on the
subject of a new club starting in SW19 at the time that Wimbledon FC was being franchised to Milton
Keynes, during our report of the first leg of this evening's Blue Square Premier Play-Off between
AFC Wimbledon and Fleetwood Town, but it is a statement that cannot and should not be repeated
enough when mentioning tonight's home team.

So it all comes down to ninety minutes. There can, at least, be little debate that this year's
Blue Square Premier play-off final is being played between the two best teams left in the
competition, following Crawley Town's testosterone-fuelled championship win but, as we pan across
the banks of empty seats at Eastlands this afternoon, it is difficult not to reflect upon the
wisdom of the decision to host the showpiece of this league here although we are talking here about
ticket prices and specifically not about the decision to play the match in Manchester and wonder
what a spectacle the match might have been had it been played in London.
Congratulations to AFC Wimbledon who have today been promoted to the Football League. Whenever I
think of Wimbledon, I always remember this quote:
'It should be in the interests of football as a whole that major new stadia are encouraged
where there is an untapped demand for major league football, such as in new towns.

It is the end, then, of another long, hard season, and perhaps now is an appropriate time to be
looking at how those clubs that are owned and run by their supporters trusts this season managed to
fair. As AFC Wimbledon paraded the trophy that confirmed their accession into the Football League
nine years after their formation, the words of the FA's committee, that a new club in the borough
would be, "not in the wider interests of football", have never sounded more hollow.

I've written a few pieces recently with criticism of some of the facets of the modern game that
have left me feeling that the dignity and the beauty of football is slipping away. With the
promotion to the Football League of AFC Wimbledon, football has shown that it is far from dead,
that the fairy tales still live on, and there is still hope for all of us who so love the beautiful
game [.
In early October of 2010, I sat at the bus stop and politely nodded as a flushed woman in a
floral print mu mu described to me her irrefutable eschatological proof that the Day of Judgement
was not only approaching, it was known.
"May twenty-first!" she declared, a little too loudly. "Prepare your soul!
Rarely have the bottom division's promoted teams started a season with so much expectation. The
rapid ascent of AFC Wimbledon on the English football ladder and big spending of fellow league
debutants Crawley Town means last year's elite Conference National outfits will be under close
scrutiny.
The financial strength of the Sussex club might mean they start the season as favourites in the
football betting.

With the division in general overviewed by Ian yesterday, it's time for the annual jinx that
is the official twohundredpercent pre-season previews. We've gone about them slightly differently
this season. With the transfer window affecting some managers psychologically to the point that
they build their team by the end of the transfer window, rather than the start of the season,
predicting how it all ends up before teams have finalised their squads is tricky, especially when
you consider that Bury started last season with fifteen players with league experience, only to add
five players to their promotion winning squad before the end of August.

In his regular column for The Seventy Two, AFC Wimbledon striker Jack Midson tells us that the
latest prank to achieve popularity among the players is to place items of fruit in each other's kit
bags. Given that in their heyday, the original club's 'Crazy Gang' were prone to setting fire to
Armani suits, smothering jock straps with Deep Heat and christening taxi doors with steel toe caps,

October was a tough month for Boro. It started with 3 straight defeats to the likes of
Scunthorpe, AFC Wimbledon and Huddersfield. It soon picked up though and the win against Charlton
kicked off another unbeaten run.
