Dave Whelan, the owner and chairman of Wigan Athletic has today been discussing his feelings that a
Premiership club going bankrupt is only a matter of time due to the level of debts certain clubs
are carrying. Whilst I think he may be overcooking the situation a little but if I'm honest, i'm
surprised it's [.
After Wimbledon upped sticks and re-located to Milton Keynes and eventually became MK Dons, AFC
Wimbledon was formed in 2002 by the fans for the fans, that is the REAL Wimbledon fans.
Their rise up the football pyramid since their formation in 2002, saw AFC Wimbledon go top of the
Blue Square South on Saturday when they beat former leaders Chelmsford City 3-1 in front of a crowd
of 4,690.

With Champions League semi-finals getting most of the attention today, there is not a whole lot
to pass along to you. That being said, there are two great reads about lower-level English clubs,

There are about a million reasons to like AFC Wimbledon, the club setup by fans after Wimbledon FC
was moved off to Milton Keynes.
Their progress may have gone unnoticed amongst the flashy corporate driven Premier League but
their achievements over the past few years perhaps should be recognised as they sit alongside those
of Manchester United when put into context.
Nine years ago this month Wimbledon lost to Southampton at the Dell, a result which saw them
relegated from the Premier League after 13 years.
On Saturday afternoon at Twerton Park, Bath City beat Team Bath by a single goal. It was a win
that maintained a proud record of City's proud record of never having lost to the university team,
and this is a record that seems likely now to last forever, following Team Bath's announcement last
week that they are to resign their place in the Blue Square South from the end of this season.
As AFC Wimbledon fans took in a post-match pint on Saturday, it's unlikely the hands raising the
pint glass had many fingernails left. But Dons fans can now relax somewhat. Bar their promotion
rivals Hampton and Richmond Borough going goal crazy on the final day of the season, the fan-owned
club is set for a second successive promotion, taking them just one step away from league
football.
The Evening News player ratings for last night against Portsmouth.
The Mirror reflects on Paul Scholes' reaction to 600th appearance.
Martin Samuel at The Daily Mail also gives Scholesy a mention.
Tony Cascarino at The Times reckons we can win the title without breaking out of second
gear.
They Think It's All Over... commends the 'choose your price' season ticket initiative shown by FC
United, and looks at the possible future fortunes of that club and their more illustrious forbears,
with respect to their very different models of ownership.

My God, but Priory Lane is a long way from the centre of Eastbourne. It takes a few seconds to
sink in when you first check it out on Google Maps. It looks as if it's in a different town. It's a
pity, really, because Eastbourne Borough is a friendly sort of club. Perhaps they could lift the
ground up with helicopters and put it on the end of the pier or something.

Despite my decision to follow Leek Town this season, this game was booked in advance as a birthday
present from my Dad, an AFC Wimbledon fan.
I think I have told you before that my local team is called Forest Green Rovers.
Anyway yesterday they were playing AFC Wimbledon (who beat them resoundingly).
When I heard, I was a bit confused.
I thought Wimbledon became MK Dons?
Turns out they did but following outrage amongst the fans they left behind when they moved over 50
miles north, AFC Wimbledon rose from the ashes.
Though the FA Cup does not generally tend to enter wider national consciousness until the big guns
of the Premier League & Championship enter at the 3rd round stage in January, the world's oldest...
We'll be back a little later on today with a report on the match between Paulton Rovers and
Norwich City. In the meantime, however, The First Round of The FA Cup started yesterday evening
with three matches. The remainder, of course, are to be played over the next three days. One of the
traditions of The FA Cup is the press sending one of their hacks who is probably none too happy at
not being to assigned to a Premier League match to write a few words about the smaller clubs that
are taking their spot in the limelight.
Millwall eased past lower league AFC Wimbledon but the scoreline is perhaps a little flattering
as Kenny Jackett's side scored two very late goals.

There's a light schedule on Monday, November 9, 2009 in the European leagues. In the English
Championship, Barnsley faces Sheffield United while Millwall plays AFC Wimbledon in the English FA
Cup. In the Portugese Liga, Benfica plays Naval. All these matches can be seen at our other site,
Free Live Sports TV, where they will be covered live.
Like leaves fall from the trees in Autumn, it seems every year some chairman in the Premier
League wants to try and get the Old Firm into it. This time Phil Gartside, the Bolton Chairman once
again tried to get the League to agree to invite Rangers and Celtic in to the fold. Thankfully, the
request has been voted down.
As usual, it has been a busy festive period for Stevenage Borough. Graham Westley's side had not
played a league game since the 5th December before they visited Cambridge United on Boxing Day and
then hosted AFC Wimbledon 2 days later at Broadhall Way. It's not over yet either with Cambridge
visiting again on New Years Day.
