Representatives of the Asian Football Confederation have highlighted the continent's increasing
development at the FIFA World Cup tournament in South Africa, with two of the four, Japan and South
Korea, making it through the group stage to the second round. Australia and North Korea go no
further. After South Korea's qualification was confirmed, AFC president, Mohamed Bin Hammam said,

Thai Port's AFC Cup run came to end with a dreadful performance in Kuwait. Their defensive game
plan failed miserably as Al-Qadsia were seemingly able to attack at will. On the rare occasions
that Port did manage to muster some pressure, they created three or four great chances to score,
hitting the woodwork twice.
The SLeague begins in about 12 days time, no fixture list yet, so I thought I'd scour some of the
teams websites and find out just what they are doing to entice supporters.
Albirex Niigata have one of the better sites and club shops in the SLeague if somewhat overpriced.
Adults can purchase season tickets at a cost of $40 (all prices in Singapore dollars obviously)
which is pretty good value when you consider match tickets cost $6 a game (all prices for adults).
After some surprising results of late, has the early doubts cast on Beijing Guoan Talent
removed?
They scored their first victory over the AFC Cup qualified Geylang United 3-1 at the Jalan
Besar.
Talents had a lengthy de-briefing after their loss to Tampines earlier this week
Following that, they took the lead in their home fixture against another traditional powerhouses -
Tampines Rovers but only succumbed to a Khairul Amri-inspired fightback in the second half which
saw many of their players suffered from muscle cramps towards the end of the match.
Thai Port took a giant step towards qualification from AFC Cup Group H with a 1-0 win over Geylang
United in Singapore. Kiatjareon Ruangparn's 58th minute strike gave Port the victory and the 3
points.

A morale boosting 3-2 victory for Thai Port at LEO Stadium gives us our first 3 points of the 2010
TPL. In typical Thai Port fashion we made life difficult for ourselves by allowing the visitors to
fight back after we were 3-0 up and cruising at one stage.
Thai Port manager Sasom Pobpraserd made some brave changes to the team, leaving out a few big name
name players, possibly with Tuesday's AFC Cup match against Geylang United in mind.
According to the Thai Port website, Saturday's TPL fixture against Police United has been moved
from a 4:00pm kick off at Suphachalasai, to a 5:30pm kick off at LEO Stadium. It will be the
Policemen's second match in a matter of weeks on the synthetic surface of LEO Stadium, as they
kicked off their 2010 TPL season with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bangkok Glass.
Negeri Sembilan coach Wan Jamak Wan Hassan is not thinking about the AFC Cup. He feels his squad
isn't strong enough and doesn't wasn't to excel in the Asian club competition while struggling on
the domestic front. Which is nice of him as the rest of Asia has indeed been quaking in the boots
at the thought of an underfunded all local Malaysian side running rings round them next year.
Muang Thong United are in Malang for their final AFC Cup game against Persiwa at the Gajayana
Stadium later today and in a perfect world I would be at the game but the world ain't perfect.
Contrasting Persiwa and Muang Thong would be pointless. That's like comparing a night on Jalan
Jaksa with a night at the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok.
Thai Port will meet Sriwijaya of Indonesia in the last 16 of the AFC Cup. The South Sumatra based
team finished as joint leaders of Group F on 13 points along with Vietnamese team Binh Duong, but
Sriwijaya took top spot courtesy of a superior head to head record.

During an interview with www.the-afc.com, general manager Adebayo Gadebo (pictured below) has asked
Thai football fans to back Thai Port in the AFC Cup quarter final against Kuwaiti side Al-Qadsia.
The Nigerian would like the fans to be Port's 12th man in what will be a tough match for the team
from Khlong Toei, but he knows that supporters of other Thai sides could be put off from going to
Suphachalasai Stadium, as a result of the crowd trouble involving some Thai Port fans that marred
the Kor Royal Cup match in February.
Dez Corkhill has been covering football in South East Asia since long before I started this here
drivel. I was still fretting over how the Arse did the night before and Dez was talking about the
likes of BEC Tero and Tampines Rovers.
In a recent interview with Dale's Chonburi site he was asked who he felt was the biggest team in
the region and surprisingly gave South China.
Thai Port were hoping to put the disappointment of being knocked out of the AFC Cup behind them by
getting back to winning ways in the Thai Premier League against Bangkok United @ Bangkok University
Stadium.
Things were not going according to plan when Wuttipong Kerdkul put lowly Bangkok United in the lead
on 62 minutes, but Port were spared the indignity of being beaten by the team who are propping up
the TPL table thanks to a 94th minute equalising goal from Sarayoot Chaikamdee.

In December, I posted an article (taken from Siam Sport) about a 4 team tournament at PAT Stadium
involving Thai Port, TTM Phichit, Osotspa Saraburi and Home United supposedly starting on January
5th. Since then, there has been no confirmation from Thai Port, and my contacts in Bangkok don't
seem to know anything about it either.
Geylang United look forward to an AFC Cup campaign this season when they are drawn against Tai Po
from Hong Kong, Thai Port and someone else.
The Eagles have been busy close season bringing in new recruits, among them Romanian Vasile
Ghindaru. Also added to the ranks is Slovak Peter Tomko and former Home United player Itimi Dickson
who of course has experience of playing in Hong Kong.
A noticeable feature of Thai Port's first 5 pre-season fixtures has been the absence of all our
foreign players. Presumably they were given extra time off at the end of a hard season, to go home
for an extended holiday.
With the start of the 2010 season only 2 months away, a couple of the foreign contingent are back
in training with the club.
The Asian Football Confederation have released the official fixtures for the 2010 AFC Cup. Thai
Port are in Group H alongside Woofoo Tai Po (HK), and Geylang United (Sin). There is still one
place left open in the group, that will be filled by either Sriwijaya (Indo), or SHB Da Nang (Vie)
depending on which teams lose in the Asian Champions League qualifying stage.
SHORT SCRIBE
Indeed, SAFFC shown why they are dead serious about making to the lucrative Asian Champions League
(ACL) group stages, by bulldozed the woes-besieged Sriwijaya 3-0 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
While there are some gelling works to be done in the Warriors camp, what their opponents in the S.
Indonesia's World Cup bid may be dead in the water. With government support lacking there is next
to no chance of Indonesia's bid being accepted by FIFA who require FAs to show government support
for all applications.
But support here has been lukewarm at best with the governemnt thought to prefer prioritising a
strong league and regional presence.

Thailand continues to deal with the repercussions of the violence that erupted during the Muang

Thai Port are due to host Da Nang in the AFC Cup and it has been announced no Thais will be allowed
to enter the stadiumin case they are Thai Port fans in disguise.
(Pictured above) This attempt by Tai Po's Ye Jia (23) was the first "decent" shot of the game I
took.
SHORT SCRIBE
To be honest, it was a poor first half for me as there were barely any worthy shot that deemed
"photogenic"
Time to time, I could only recall myself deleted those "unworthy" shots - in short, it was a
frustration first 45minutes.

Not surprisingly they have the worst defence in the ISL.
Long weekend for us lucky folk in Jakarta and some fascinating games to keep us on the edge of our
seats. Should we spend the whole time sat on our sofas that is.
In Indonesia Sriwijaya face a tricky game against Persema in Palembang. The Malang side have asked
all the big clubs questions this season and not everyone has been able to answer.
Yesterday saw Persisam defeat Persitara 3-2 in a vital relegation game for both teams. And while
the Borneo Eagles bask in the glory of their three points for Thai striker Pipat Thonkanya there
was more good news.
He scored one of the goals to help his team earn them valuable points. He dedicated the goal to his
wife who was in the stadium watching the game.
Just a couple of weeks ago I was writing off Sriwijaya's chances of a second Indonesian title in
three years. A 2-1 reverse at home to Bontang following a 1-0 defeat away to Persija had deprived
the Palembang six valuable points in the race for the ISL.
Today they host leaders Arema knowing that victory today could well blow the league right open.
Two years ago they finished runners up to Sriwijaya in the old format Liga Indonesia. Last season
they battled valiantly in the AFC Cup while battling relegation. A battle they lost.
PSMS are a lesson in how not to run a football clu. Instead of building on the success of 07/08 the
team was allowed to fall apart as people sat around waiting for money to fall in their deserving
laps.
AFC is tightening the requirements of clubs who wish to compete in its flagship competitions the
AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup.

Eagles hope for better showing against Thai Port in after drawing their last two matches
SINGAPORE, 31 March 2010: Geylang United will host Thai Port (THA) in their second home match of
the AFC Cup 2010 campaign next Tuesday, 6 April 2010 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Given that they're up against teams from Hong Kong and Maldives we should see two south east Asian
teams through to the next round of the AFC Cup.
Hats off to Indonesian football. The FA and clubs have decided to fund football development in less
well off parts of Asia by ingnoring existing rules and regulations thereby incurring fines to be
paid to the AFC. Fair play says I.

fined USD 11,000 for liability for spectator conduct when plastic bottles were thrown onto the

Thai Port travel to Singapore for Tuesday's crunch AFC Cup group H clash against Geylang on the
back of a timely TPL victory over Police United. Sasom Pobpraserd rested several first team
regulars for that match, and whether he chooses to recall the big names or stick with a winning
line up remains to be seen.
Here are some photo's taken by AS:SOON:AS in and around the ground at yesterday's AFC Cup fixture
against Geylang United. It was a big day for Port fans, as it was the first time they were able to
see an AFC Cup match in Bangkok, and the first time they were allowed into Suphachalasai Stadium
since the violence that marred the Kor Royal Cup match.
Thai Port go into Wednesday's AFC Cup clash against Singaporean side Geylang United on the back of
an indifferent start to the season. So far, the form book reads lost, won, lost. I just hope the
sequence continues for one more match!
Sasom Pobpraserd may well recall Pongpipat Kamnuan, Jirawat Makarom, Ekkachai Sumrei and Pitipong
Kuldilok to the Thai Port starting line up in favour of Nontapan Jiensatawong, Yai Nilwong, Worawut
Wangsawad, and Edvaldo.
So the 2010 TPL season will finally get underway for Thai Port on Sunday. We make the short trip to
play Samut Songkhram, who recently signed a sponsorship deal with SCG (Siam Cement Group) which has
secured the immediate future of the club.
Samut Songkhram haven't been the most active team in the transfer market during the close season,
but have still added a few new faces.
Thai Port got their AFC Cup campaign up and running with a fantastic 1-0 win against Tai Po in Hong
Kong. Pitipong Kuldilok scored only goal of the match in the 48th minute.
Next up for Thai Port in the AFC Cup is a vital double header against Geylang United. The teams
meet at Suphachalasai Stadium, Bangkok on March 24th.
The start to Thai Port's 2010 season hasn't been the smoothest to say the least! We've had well
documented off field problems, we lost our first AFC Cup match, and saw the opening TPL fixture
against Bangkok Glass postponed due to political protests in Bangkok. It has meant that since
playing against SHB Da Nang 3 weeks ago, we've only had one proper practice match, a 0-0 draw
against TOT CAT at PAT Stadium.
