Football: Axe to fall on five
By ERIC SAMUEL
PETALING JAYA: At least five players will be axed following the national football team's dismal
outing in the playing tour of Slovakia recently.
Malaysia lost three matches and drew one in the tour.
National material: Kedah striker Mohd Khyril Muhymeen (right) has been picked by national coach B.
MONEY WORRIES HAUNT PERAK
KUALA LUMPUR (19 July 2008) – Perak head coach Steve Darby said that Perak's financial
woes could see the Malaysian side withdraw from September's AFC Cup quarter-finals.Perak qualified
for this season's tournament by finishing second to Kedah in both the Malaysian Super Cup and
Malaysia Cup last year.
Tonight sees the second leg of the AFC Cup quarter finals with all four local sides facing tough
challenges.
The two Singapore sides are marginally better off. SAF carry a narrow 2-1 lead to Al Nadha in Oman
but Datoma Yedibahoma's late penalty will have the hosts feeling confident knowing one goal would
be enough to put them in the semis.
If it's true that football is emotion then Home United and their supporters experienced the full
circle earlier this evening as they took on Dempo in the AFC Cup quarter final second leg at Jalan
Besar. 1-1 from the first leg the Protectors appeared to have the advantage of a crucial away goal
with coach Sivaji promising all out attack.
It isn't just Indonesia where clubs have cash flow problems. In the Malaysia Cup Perak also seem to
be running out of money as this report from The Star shows.

Perak in dire straits
By RONNIE OH
GEORGE TOWN: Perak are in deep financial crisis and they may not be able to fulfil their commitment
to play against Lebanon's SAFA FC in the away match of the AFC Cup quarter-final tie in
September.
Perak, whose players have gone without salaries for nearly four months now, have made appeals for
funds to the state and the FA of Malaysia (FAM) but they have not received replies.
Perak's leading goalscorer Carlos Caceres likes the lifestyle in South East Asia and hopes to stick
around beyond the end of his contract with the Malaysian side.
The Malaysian FA's strange decision to ban foreigners from playing in the country next season means
the Chilean needs to find a new club from the end of August and with 30 goals scored in all
competitions so far you can be sure clubs in Singapore and Indonesia will be alerted to the 31 year
old's availabilty.
Two second half goals from leading goalscorer Aleksander Duric were enough to put SAF into the
Singapore Cup Final last night.
Leading 2-0 from the first leg SAF went to Tampines knowing their fate was in their hands and they
went through 4-0 on aggregate.
In the final they play Woodlands Wellington at Jalan Besar Stadium.
Here we sit between the first and second leg of the AFC Cup quarter finals and I can't help
thinking what's the point?
Of course it would be great for football in this region if SAF or Home United could go on and win
the trophy but I can't help thinking it would come at a price. And that price would be domestic
success.
On my last trip to Singapore I sat down with SAF coach Richard Bok and discussed his latest
challenge. Winning the AFC Cup.

Singapore Armed Forces poor form continues but this time they were lucky enough to get away with a
victory.Winston Yap accidentally own goal in the 87 minute gave SAFFC an undeserved win. Sengkang
has been containing their opponents well until they concede the goal.Overall,Wiston Yap,who played
extremely well in that match, deserved to be given the man [.
